MGS4 looks leaps and bounds better than Splinter Cell, despite what foxgod drools as usual (who's surprised?), best part is that if the demo has to be taken as an actual indicator of final gameplay, it also plays leaps and bounds better.
You just need to look at the details of faces and hair to notice that, as it happened at every round, when the two franchise have come to be compared, Metal Gear beats down Splinter Cell to a pulp.

This article non-sense. Those MGS4 screenshots are older than the game itself. Even though MGS4 is almost 2 years old, it still looks REALLY good as far as visual goes. Now which is a better game overall? Of course MGS4 takes the crown. I mean compare the trailers that Kojima Productions released vs the ones Ubisoft released and you can already tell who prevails. Splinter Cell never came close to the cinematic quality that the Metal Gear franchise offered for the past decades!

LAIR looks as good as Splinter Cell Conviction. Let's start there before we jump all the way up to MGS4.

I've been waiting for one of these articles ever since the Splinter Cell: Conviction demo came out.

Surprised it took so long.

MGS4 looks dated, and plays like a last gen game. It never had decent textures, and the story is complete BS that made me want to fall asleep. Kojima needs a editor, and MGS needs a new direction. Splinter Cell Chaos Theory was a far better game than MGS4 could ever hope to be. The latest Splinter cell is going to destroy it, the Japanese simply don't know how to make decent games this gen. They've been left behind in tech and gameplay mechanics, they are old school and can't modernise.

MGS4 was a beast when it launched. SC has become an average IP. In the past 10 years, Konami made only 3 MGS (2,3,4,i forget psp's)when ubisoft is treating SC as any other IP.
We are not talking about the same kind of game. MGS is a AAA franchise. SC is not.

Screenshots does NOT do it justice. Heck I just showed some screenshots of GOWIII to my Manager and he tried to "nit-pick' the low-res leaves on Gaia's forearm.

Metal Gear Solid 4 is still my 2nd favorite game of all time.

I think SC looks slightly better, but only 'slightly'. I was hoping SC would look amazing, but looking at those shots, it's not as good-looking as it's hyped up to be. I'll reserve my judgement after the game comes out. Although MGS4 textures are starting to look slightly old now, it wasn't the graphics alone that made it a great game.

Two words: Shadow Mosses! Anyone whos completed MGS4 knows what I'm talking about. ;)

Most games have les rez textures some where, maybe they are hidden, on pc it's easier because of the amount of physical ram you can add to any system.

I'm not a 360 fanboy or anything but I've always thought that MGS4 looked really bad, I mean even Kojima himself wasn't pleased with the final look of the game but he said that's the best he could do.

I believe he could achieve graphics miles ahead of KZ2 if he tweaks MGS4's engine and makes MGS6 (PW is part 5) but unfortunately Kojima doesn't give a crap about next-gen consoles anymore and he just threw away MGS4's engine (I think he did?).

SC:C is obviously going to look better since the game is waaaaay smaller that MGS4 (which gives more space for better textures) and since MGS4's release there's been so many advances in lighting, textures and whatnot. You 360 fanboys have to also take in to account the amount of things happening on-screen in MGS4 including the LOD in Snakes character model.

MGS4 looks really bad for an exclusive PS3 game (in terms of environment detail) but it absolutely destroys anything on the 360 if you look at the game as a whole and what it achieves, and it's definitely not possible on the 360 (Act 5 proves the 360 is incapable of handling MSG4).

I believe Kojima has the talent and the capability to out shine UC2, KZ2 & GOW3 combined in terms of graphics and gameplay but he needs to get back to working on next-gen consoles ASAP.

i go by textures in way of everything on walls buildings always looking differnt nothing ever the same.and i like solid textures unlike multiformat games there not hense why you get alot glitches too.witch u will in splintercell. enebatable. nearly all games have some kinda glitch .but thats what i look for not always colors i like solid textures cos more solid a tezxture less glitch. .exapme of a crap texture is when you glitch or take bad company 2 when you die on the ground you notice sometimes you can see under the map.and the above game you see a draw line. thats a unsolid bitliner bad textures.

Anyone claiming MGS4 ripped off Splinter Cell's gameplay is right partially.

But the development team for Conviction has changed the gameplay from what I can tell. Less intense stealh, and more dumbed down fight scenes, even the devs commented on this. I guess they wanted to please the MW2, arcady, fratboy demographic.

MGS4 looks wayyy better IMO. SC looks nice because of the rich colors and soft look, but MGS4 hay way more detail and more sh!t going on at once. It doesn't use CG cutscenes either and the game looks freaking amazing.

This is the flippin problem today, on N4G you're REQUIRED to hype up a PS3 game even if it looks bad. I'm know as a PS3 fanboy on this site but I'm definitely not blind, even I can see how much netter SC:C looks than MGS4 but the PS3 sensitive fanboys on this site will cry if you say that.

I even explained why SC:C looks better yet you wouldn't except it even though what I said is very logical. My comment is based on my experience playing through the game on a 1080p 40" Samsung HDTV, I didn't even try to over observe the game but the flaws of the game still stood out to me like a sore thumb.

Look at ND's first game compared to KP (Kojima Productions) first game and that makes the "it's only his first game" argument irrelevant.

As I said Kojima himself wasn't pleased with the GRAPHICS of final game, and you don't have to believe me but I'm sure you believe him when he says his own game looks bad.

For me mgs4 looked nicer than the demo of sc:s on 360. I think what wins it for me, is the fact that mgs4 was mainly done in daylight whereas sc:c was pretty dark, so much harder to see details etc in the dark.
I am hoping that the retail sc:c will have more variety.

With my copy of MGS4, my friend at GameStop is trying to get me to buy this for 360, so far no luck, I don't care of the SC games an the last time I play one was on the Xbox an I think it was the first game of it to be on the Xbox.

You forget how great MGS4 looks when you haven't played it for a while, but good lord does it look great! I've played the SC:C demo recently and that doesn't even touch the sublime that is Metal Gear , graphically, same goes foe game play or lack of it for SC. I don't think tapping X on two targets and then watching Sam do the work for you is very interesting in my opinion.

Both games are different in presentation and game play (modern vs futuristic time frame). Yet, what makes them similar is the use of some kind of stealth tactic in the game. It is rather hard to tell that one is rendered in Sub HD and the other in HD. I bet people would be less offended if they were not told this. It is quit an achievement to pull off visuals that look like a full HD presentation. Ubisoft has done it well.

Oh man... take off the pink glasses. Metal Gear Solid have nearly no textures. The Game does not look good on Screenshots. The Game-graphics is all about shading. Thats the Way the PS3 is great with. Much better Models with less Textures. (God of War uses the same Technique). In Metal Gear Solid the Grapic is all about the genius Animation of the Characters. No Screenshots can Capture this.

Do you Guys Remember Tobal No.1 or Tobal 2? They was the graphical greatest games on PSone just because they have not uses Textures a lot. Tobal 2 had looked so good as a PS2 Game and even Today its ok.

Again, it is not wise to compare a multiplatform game or a 360 exclusive to an elite PS3 exclusive because:

(1) PS3 has more horsepower under the hood
(2) PS3 exclusives are generally developed by the elite of the development community

There are sections in MGS4 that will drop your jaw. I have seen a lot of footage of Splinter Cell Conviction and my jaw has dropped once.

The area in which Splinter Cell Conviction shines the most is in its innovative game play elements. That is what I am most interested in.

When I first saw the gamestop commercial, before I even new what the game was, I thought to myself, "What the hell is this, this looks horrible?" OK, so whoever said that has obviously that heard about Heavy Rain or God of war or heck uncharted 1 and 2 its like playing a movie.

I’m beating a dead horse here… but Resisitance FOM gun lay out was so fun, multiplayer was one of my top favorite experiences. Insomniac nailed it and I would love a remaster and maybe a redo with Reisistance 2. They listens to players who were wanting a Halo killer and it kind of lost its character from the first.

Warhawk, if they had just remade the first one not Starhawk which offered nice things like the build and battle.. but Warhawk was the best arcade shooter I ever played. Back when you didn’t have battle passes and you actually had to get certain amount of kills or ribbons to unlock different paint skins on the Warhawks and armor for your player.. Look at the success of Helldivers 2, it’s a fun game and it reminds me of Warhawk in a way. I’ve been wanting a remake or sequel since the beginning of the ps4 gen.. it’s hurts to have hope nowadays. Even with the demise of the studios Sony has a steady fan base.

Killzone game after Killzone 2 play style would be nice

Motorstorm would be epic with the visual upgrade, maybe this game would be a harder sell with the genre being not as popular nowadays..

Sorry bud, but the PS3 generation was amazing and featured the greatest console comeback in history.

That said, I'd love it if Warhawk returned or Metal Gear Solid 4. It needs to not be shackled to the PS3 generation anymore. A Killzone 2 remake would be insane with modern graphics and that art direction.

I really miss this gen of gaming. It felt like the last truly "great" era for videogames before the modern approach really took hold.

The PS3 was such a glorious console. The UI, the games, the free online...just incredible.

I would pay good money for a Warhawk remake. Socom too. The last Socom game just didn’t do it justice. Folklore could use a remaster or remake as well.
Several other titles I would like to remade with the amount of visual fidelity the current gen has over the past consoles it could help articulate the games that we’ve loved growing up. I would love even some ps2 titles to remade.. Dark Cloud from ps2, Legacy of Kain series but don’t know what will come of it sense it was bought by Embracer group and all there layoffs.

This strategy is exactly what helped ruin Xbox. Sony more than Microsoft know when to let a franchise go and that is important to keep things fresh. The old games are there if you want to play them.

Resistance series and Killzone 2 & 3 remasters/remakes. Make it happen. They will print money.

FF13 is top of this list for me. No matter your opinion on it, it being the only numbered offline FF out of all 16 not to be on new consoles is odd. GTA IV would be great too

The only reason my PS3 is still connected is because of the Resistance, Heavenly Sword, Motorstorm games that I still love to play. I am for remaking or remastering them.
