This issue was embarrassing and it was becoming detrimental to our further growth in installed base numbers on a retail level.

I believe if Microsoft makes good on their promises, it will restore the confidence in consumers to consider buying that 360 now, rather then later.

@5 Bill "wannabe" Gates: What do you got? A $600 paper weight with only 2 (decent) exclusive games? Its evident in the amount of time you spend on this website, how much you enjoy your ps3.

At this point blu-ray movies are the only exclusives (no more Fatal Inertia http://blog.wired.com/games... ) you lemmings have to look forward to.

Kudos for MicroSoft for doing the right thing!!! Finding fault with oneself and aggresivily fixing the problem has always proved to build strong customer support. It shows that they are willing to back up their products and builds confidence by consumers.
This only builds my support in MS and the 360!!!!!

At the people who claim Microsoft "had" to own up to a "problem" and fix it-- as someone else mentioned, Sony had a serious problem with their DVD drives/lasers in the first batch of PS2's, and NEVER admitted or owned up to the problem, even after they were sued in a class-action and LOST. At the time, when my PS2 went bad, you didn't even have the option to send it off to get fixed; if it was out of warranty, you had to buy a new one. In the class action settlement, in which Sony admitted nothing, of course, documents were provided that claimed execs knew of the problem, but refused to do anything because they would sell more systems by forcing people with problems to buy a new one. Also look at Sony's troubles with Immersion and the lack of rumble in the PS3- once again Sony got sued for copyright infringement (So did MS and Nintendo- but both MS and Nintendo settled, and MS even bought stock in Immersion), denied everything, lost the case, and owed Immersion millions of dollars- thus, no rumble in PS3 (which they lied about, once again- couldn't put rumble and motion control in together, until Immersion tried and found 3 different ways to make it work) So, Microsoft could have pulled a Sony, denied everything until they were sued, still deny everything, and instead of giving people with bricked 360's a new system, just send them a crappy game (that is what Sony did to all of us in the DVD drive class-action-- no new system, we still had to buy that, but we did get one year-old crap game for free). What they did INSTEAD was step up, take a BILLION dollar hit, be as honest as they can about the problem, and move forward. Still the best system IMHO, with the best games coming out between now and Christmas. Never had a problem with my launch system, but glad to know if I did, I bought a game system from a company that will do right by me.

E3 will feature"new" news on Halo 3, Too Human, Bio Shock, Mass Effect and a lil something we all refer to as Gears of War 2.

This will soon pass. M$ is doing the right thing. That's what is killing the fan boys so bad. It is kinda funny to watch the fan boys act like jealous cheer leaders though.

The average consumer who doesn't own any next gen console does not know about the failure rate, so I don't see this boosting any sales. Litterally 1% sales boost will amount to this which doesn't matter at all.

...imagine if E3 was all about the negatives for MS and not about some of the killer upcoming releases. Good to see this is finally being addressed even if MS was somewhat backed into a corner.

Anyway, I think all us 360 owners agree that the best is yet to come.

P.S. - before any PS3 fanboys reply to this message, don't. 360 owners don't care what you have to say anyway.

the fact that they had a 90day warrenty - then changed it to a year..and now extending it to 3 years says something...and NOOOOOOO blind sheep - its not because MS realizes that the 360 is crap and is doing u a favour - they are doing it because they know sooner or later a lawsuit will happen...MS is greedy and americans love to sue every1

some of the stories u read on the net are just scary - one guy paid 180 bucks to get it fixed shipped back get it fixed and shipped back all in a matter of 2 months he went threw 3 360 and down 180 bucks...

4~5 times the cost of this soft recall, so it was definitely a good decision on their part. That's a lot of money for a mere 10 million consoles though, and I can't imagine how much they'll be spending on repairs once 20 million are sold.

Peter Moore is a great public face for Microsoft. He instills confidence in the consumer. I can't wait for Microsoft's E3 presentation. Hopefully he'll reveal an MGS4 tattoo. But if not, no biggie, we have plenty of other huge titles to choose from.

Keep in mind the ps2 had a problem similar to the 360 with it's "Disc Read Error" title. But it wasn't blown out of porportion like the 360's ring of death problem. People just accepted it and bought another ps2. Me personally I had to buy a new ps2 every year(I bought 5), my brother-in-law bought 7, my brother bought 4, my friends bought an avaverage of at least 4 each, and countless other people I talked to are in those numbers as well. The ps3 doesn't have enough games out right now to know if the same problem will occur, but when the games like Killzone, FFXIII, MGS 4, etc. come out, and people have their system running for extended periods of time---we will see how things work. Not to mention sony made the same mistake by putting movie playback in the ps3, which was one of the main reasons for the "Disc Read Error" problem.
