Here's an idea, if you want to make money how about you get out of your niche market and start making other types of games apart from puzzles.

Lumines and Every Extended Extra where great, but you can only port and make sequels so many times before people stop caring.

I notice someone disagreed with my remark i.e sarcasm about this story being newsworthy. Let me say this; after checking your submissions history that makes this story that much more worse. You've actually posted and I assumed written some very good articles. I'll politely say this was not your best work.

Iam really confused so has nintendo comfirmed this becuase i did not belive any of it this mourning and everyone was saying it was aprils fools and the about two weeks ago a got dozens of disagrees saying ninntedo was going to bring out new handheld

Sony in particular get grief in the press for having "so many" different PS3 SKU's and for revamping the PSP every so often yet Nintendo seem to release a new version of the DS every year or 18 months yet get a free pass? I realise each iteration of the DS sells incredibly well and is comercially successful in units sold buthow come the negative press never goes the way of Nintendo in the same respect?

if this thing really has screens samller than the currently new dsiXL then im not buyn,those screens on the normal dsi are way to small

that developer is just lol. if u want it to sell on the 3DS then make a good game not a crappy one. not the big N's fault it wont sell due to ur incompetence

I see his point but I thought 3rd Party games do extremely well on DS. Wii is where 3rd parties are wasting their time. Only Nintendo makes any sort of profit with the games they make, and maybe Activision and EA but thats about it. Even SE and Capcom have problems.

wrong all of these companies have been doing this for years, and nintendo has just started unless you don't add the gameboy which was the same thing yet in color.

I guess this means no Lumines or Meteos on the new DS...

Here's the problem:

(A) Lots of DS/DSLite in the world... not a big deal.

(B) Lots of DSi/DSi XL in the world... kind of a problem, if you want to use the extra horsepower of the DSi (it has way more memory and 2x the CPU clock of the DS, you know), but don't want to exclude all the (A) consumers.

(C) new 3DS on the horizon, with even more horsepower. If you don't use it, 3DS owners probably will not buy your game over a competitor who does use the tech (i.e. a publisher-owned and funded dev studio, as opposed to an independant studio). Developing for the 3DS means excluding all the members of the (A) and (B) groups, too.

Basically, Nintendo just told all the little devs, who can't afford to make 3DS games, or 3 versions of their game for the 3 "grades" of DS, to GTFO... for a few years, at least, while the 3DS installbase grows to a size capable of producing a decent return.

By then, there will be so many big-studio 3DS games on the market, that no little dev studio will be able to compete, without growing, and getting more funding, to make a 3DS game. In an odd twist, the BC of the 3DS will guarantee the death of the DS/DSi population at a much faster rate, and thus actually extinguish the DS/DSi software market, in lieu of the growing, big-studio 3DS market, faster than a non-BC 3DS would have.

So long small, independant DS devs. Nintendo would have left off BC, if they wanted to keep the little guys afloat.

Developers will be frustrated with this, because *Apparently for the 3D to take effect, you need to be approximately 20cm's from screen at the right angle...alot of people are going to struggle with holding this baby properly!
So the first game won't be Dr. Kawashimas brain-training : how old is your brain?...

you got to think about so much different things then just makeing a game. for everything you implement its gonna take longer and boggle your mind. you draw a picture on paper. Now you draw a picture in 3d lol. Its not as hard as what developers have to do though becuase they doing games.

basically only nintendo and square have made money on the ds, not much else. well most of it is shovel ware anyway. atlus had a few good titles tho :)
