Apple Bans Game, Days After Developer Publicly Trashes App Store

Last week, game developer Tommy Refenes publicly called Apple's app store "awful" and "horrible." This week, Apple yanked his game from their store.

Good, take out he trash. I can't stand developers like that, he's gonna sit there and condemn the AppStore after he sells his garbage app for $400, and $50 before that. He takes advantage of it and makes a lot of money he doesn't deserve, and then talks about how awful the store is. Straight douchebags, people like that are part of the problem in the AppStore

Freedom of speech mean anything to you?

You obviously didn't get my point. Sure, he can say anything he wants about it, no one said he couldn't. Thats not the point I was making. I'm saying its hilarious this guy has the nerve to charge 400 dollars for a garbage app, and then go off and complain about that store that enabled him to do that and make that money for him. Its just hilarious. It would be like me talking trash about the person who just bought my house for 10 times its market value.

The article title is probably misleading people into thinking Apple is tossing him out just because he talked trash about them, when if you actually read into the whole thing its because the guy is a scum bag that is doing fishy things and trying to take advantage of his customers.

I think part of the point he is trying to make is that people who are buying apps do not pay attention to what they are buying. His test of increasing the price and still getting people to buy his app at what most people and analysts would consider are outrageous prices helps show that people do not really pay attention at all. He really is not doing anything fishy or low down that would constitute calling him a scum bag, he is simply making his point and explaining to people that app store customers are not very good critics of what truly makes a good quality game, and that they buy many games based on a brand. This is useful information, especially if it were actually studied and documented by researchers and analysts.

If you would like to criticize a game developer, first- learn about the developing process that goes in to making games. Second- actually criticize something reasonable and not something petty that you simply have a different opinion about, and don't stoop down to fanboy-ish type criticisms.

seems like a steve job sorta move...

tho really anyone making money off iphone apps should know that

It's not exactly a huge surprise that Apple customers are willing to lay down huge wads of money on products they don't fully understand.

Calling it taking advantage is ridiculous. Had we been talking about Oackleys sunglasses would you have said that they're scumbags and are taking advantage of customers by selling them a pair virtually equivalent to those a fraction of the price? No, because you're unable to recognise your double standards.

Apple likely removed it because they deemed that the bad PR they'd get from a couple of clueless people buying it (see the guy who bought the $1000 app, and then complained about it in a review) outweighed the monetary benefit they got. Purely a business decision, nothing ethical about it.

Who in their right mind would pay $400 for a i-pod game?
Some people have more money than sense.

No surprise there. Anyone who doesn't worship the almighty Steve Jobs is not welcome in the gates of Cupertino.

Probably down to the high cost of gaming. Controllers and racing wheels can cost as much as consoles.

This is why there will always be competition in gaming. The possibilities to make huge profits is just too enticing.
