Starhawk Could Have MMO Elements

PSLS writes:

Ever since that original rumor let slip that the then newly formed Lightbox Interactive was working on a "Warhawk in space", the imagination of PS3 owners have run rampant with possibilities. Well, imagine this...

oh god...this game is gunna consume my life

TOO PAWNED5824d ago

If it doesn't have single player, i don't care

Goodbye outside world

ps3gamerkyle5824d ago

Given Dylan Jobe's track record, I expect nothing less than excellent from this game.

mastiffchild5824d ago

I care. It NEEDS a SP campaign this time round to hook even more players, put meat on those MP bones, give the brilliant combat some frame of reference and finally grab the number of ga,mers a series this good deserves.

A few MMO bits are OK but change too much and you'll lose what makles it s special, imo.

guitarded775824d ago

Just because LBI hired 2 Bioware guys doesn't mean there are MMO qualities going into the game... they hired Bioware guys for Austin and LBI is in Austin... you hire from the pool you have readily available.

Chubear5824d ago (Edited 5824d ago )

Yeah, I hear you dude but I think you're going to be covered on SP this time around.

Damn, Sony's just too awesome with these exclusives. And to think, what would have happened if naysayers had succeeded in killing off Warhawk so it doesn't have a sequel? Think, what would Lair 2 have been like had more PS3 gamers supported it. Look at UC1 to UC2 and see how Lair 2 could have had thousands of Dragons & fire arrows flying through the air and soldiers battling out a simed RTS while 32 actual players on each side did they're part to help the NPCs win the tug of war.

Gad, PS3 gamers, never listen to naysayers or the NA gaming media on PS3 exclusives especially those made in house. If you do, you help them rob you of some insane gaming experiences down the line. If they interest you in any way, always try them out for yourself first - ALWAYS

I'm all for this game, but every time you hear MMO, you know those bastards carry a fee (I know they said MMO elements). The concept of this game sounds intriguing none the less. I just don't get will it be all space combat like EVE Online or what?

DoucheVader5824d ago

That isn't necessarily true. MAG has MMO elements without a subscription model.

JustTheFactsMr5824d ago

SOE has free MMO's like Free Realms.

Charging subscription fees is I think becoming an antiquated business model. It's becoming more lucrative to make them free, which increases your audience and then sell virtual items to a larger user base. Some of the largest most lucrative games are showing up in Facebook using that model. People are more willing to pay for virtual items if the world persists over time.

Chubear5824d ago

MMOs on PS3 are free in NA & EU especially those made by Sony so not even a big deal regardless.

DoucheVader5824d ago

I am really looking forward to StarHawk. Warhawk is an awesome game, sure it lacks some of the amenities of a more modern day shooter, but it has a huge fun factor. The balance is incredible as well.

JustTheFactsMr5824d ago

Hands down the most fun ever had in any game.

Those lack of amenities are exactly what made it unique and more fun than those other games.

Only flaws for me was

- no option to turn off the TOW missile.

- no option to turn off the Warhawks.

Yes there are several maps that just screamed for slugging it out via ground only. It would have been a nice variation.

People set up games where the host would ban people that flew but not quite the same thing since you would always get the spoiler idiot sneaking in before he could be banned.

T3mpr1x5824d ago

Warhawk in space but as an MMO? That would be incredible, especially if you could seamlessly go from world to world via your ship and right into battle. That would be the first MMO that truly has caught my attention. I hate WoW and all those fantasy/medieval-type MMOs, such boring settings.

Bathyj5824d ago (Edited 5824d ago )

How about some single player elements.

I was such a big fan of the original Warhawk and the thought of dogfighting hundreds of ships like that first trailer was mind blowing.

Then they switched it to MP only and I was shattered.

Sony should deliver on the gameplay that first trailer promised.

Either make Starcraft an Epic SP space battle, or BRING BACK COLONY WARS !

Remember the sound of destroying that first big ship? It was like a planet cracking or something. Sony still has so many good franchises it could tap into, CW, G Police, Rollcage, Dragoon, Medievil, J&D..... Temcos Deception, while they're at it. Tenchu, please god, Tenchu...

JustTheFactsMr5824d ago

Too bad if you let dropping the SP stop you from buying this.

Hands down most fun, most hours so far this gen for me. The balance/variety in this game is fantastic.

Plus BB had the headset, disc version for $39 with a $5 discount coupon around launch time. A steal :)

Sev5824d ago

I'm one of those people who prefer my single player experience over multiplayer anyday. In fact, I am not big on multiplayer at all.

That being said, Warhawk is still one of my favorite PS3 titles.

JustTheFactsMr5824d ago

Exactly the same boat here. Campaign is definitely my preference.

However I got into the Warhawk beta and was completely hooked by the variety and balance.

I mean is their anything more chaotic and just laugh out loud crazy that goes on in a 32-player match in a small map like Northern Bridge?

You shoot several people, take out a tank, guy stealing your flag dies from the mines you strategically placed, then you take a 1/2 second to catch your breath and you get run over by a jeep racing thru your base. All in the span of about 15 seconds.

Not a single Reistance? Fuck this article.

mastershredder685d ago (Edited 685d ago )

Starhawk over Warhawk?...... Dude, NO ONE should listen to you.

Odd choices for "best" more like you settled as these being the "best" that available to you at the time, cause a lot of these blow or were average to poor performers that ended up in bargain bin.

Missing too many great sci-fi titles here. The Void, The Resistance Series, Killzone 2 and 3, Enslaved, man.. there were so many, this is redicu-list.

FreeckyCake685d ago

Nobody should listen to you either with that attitude.

OtterX684d ago

I agree that Starhawk shouldn't be above Warhawk, however I must say that Starhawk multiplayer was incredible for its time! Many people wrote it off bc the single player was quite terrible, bc it was basically 1 huge tutorial for the multiplayer. But I can tell you never spent any significant amount of time in MP. It was doing incredibly tense base building w air, foot and land vehicle (and mech!) combat long before Fortnite was ever a thing.

I bet it would have been much better received if it had just ditched the story mode all together. So many people like yourself completely wrote it off based on reviews by reviewers that let the criticism of single player weigh heavily on their scores. I bet you didn't even play it.

Friendlygamer685d ago

The riddick games are some of the best stealth titles ever, highly underrated

YourMommySpoils685d ago

What games? All recall plating was Escape from Butcher Bay.

Friendlygamer685d ago (Edited 685d ago )

There's also the less acclaimed 'assault on dark Athena'

( also, not saying this to you specifically but there's both resistance and killzone games on the list, it's amazing how even something so simple and innocent as a game list can be turned into misinformed vitriol here lol )

jznrpg685d ago

Glad to see Resonance of Fate. Enslaved was pretty good too. I’m sure there are others nobody has listed but I’m too tired to try and think of anything

Roundtable: Dead Game Franchises We Miss

With every big game now belonging to a big intellectual property, there are those that have become redundant. Here are the series' we miss.

RPGer1762d ago

I miss Dark Cloud I mean damn, Dark Cloud 2 is one of the best Action RPG game ever made. The game have: Rich Worlds, different setting, tons of contents, vareity in gameplay like never before (and even after), best buliding mechanics, crafting system like no one did and finally impressive graphics.

Most underrated game ever. It deserved the popularity and sales of Zelda and Final Fantasy. ut unfortunately, Level-5 and Sony didn't advertise it at all.

titans99991762d ago

My franchises I wish would make a come back, are Battlefront by pandemic studios - galactic conquest was the best, mercenaries 1 and 2, and prototype 1 and 2...great games!
