Ways that Heavy Rain Failed

Kyle of Insert-Disc lists the many aspects of Heavy Rain that he found disappointing. Mostly plot details, meaning the story contains a lot of spoilers so read it after you've beaten the game.

He says he liked it but I wonder.

UnwanteDreamz5896d ago

I could tear 80% of his conclusions apart and show where he just couldn't connect the dots but it isn't worth it. He has a few points that do raise an eyebrow but alot of them see to just be personal taste.

If we are going to talk about unrealistic plot points and holes in the story line then maybe you should add most games and movies released last year to this. How many times in a scary movie have you yelled at your screen because someone did something stupid to futher the plot?

Lifendz5896d ago

It's not the perfect game. But it was an entertaining experience. That's all i need.

Ever notice that only PS3 games get articles about what was wrong with them? These juvenile attacks pieces by small minded nobodies waiting on their 360 to get repaired are quite frankly pathetic.

mastiffchild5896d ago

Firstly, why make this article about HR when it's writing jhas the hardest job to do of any game ever made? It has to cover a myriad possibilities and a ton of different linear routes stemming from what oyou did in the game. It must have been HELL for those writers knowing exactly where they, and the poor actors, were at all times, knowing where each characters heads were at in each and every moment. Hell-they didn't even have any experience to call on in what must have been a VERY alien way of working. I certainly didn't envy them and would dread writing for a game like this myself. I have nothing but total admiration for them and the job they managed. Seriously, I think it must have proved SO difficult for them.

Secondly, why not do this for MW2?? That had plot holes you could drive one of BFBC2's tanks through-and it's just one bloody line of storytelling so who deserves an failure article more on the writing front? Being honest you could pick apart ANY game for it's storytelling and it would, with a few exceptions(like the attention to detail of Kojima in MGS3 and 4), fall way below what HR managed to achieve.

Lastly, if you wanted to pick it apart he could have used a few better examples than those he did-many of which have logical excuses or reasoning behind them. I've gone on too long already but to pick on HR when it's writing is amazing AND had a harsder job to do than in ANY other game imaginable is beyond the cheap and churlish. Pointless, when other games get it so much more badly wrong with way easier tasks for their storytellers.

morganfell5895d ago

Mastiff, excellent point. I don't think I have played a game recently with as many gaping holes as those in MW2. And I do not mean the massive amount of errors committed by that lying so called authenticity jackass advisor Hank Keirsey either.

I don't care. It was a very unexpected, good game that stepped over boundaries many hadn't yet, or dared.

The music is incredible.

What's going on with all of these articles nit picking Heavy Rain and magnifying its faults. Heavy Rain is good for gaming. It reflects the diversity of the gaming industry and the audience to which it caters to.

I hope we get more games like Heavy Rain in the near future.

Please stop comparing video games to movies

"Many video games catch not only great commercial attention but remarkable critical attention as well. We have seen games like Heavy Rain, The Last of Us Part II, and even entries in the Metal Gear series described as fantastic interactive experiences, even heralded in the same way as Hollywood's greatest films.

I would suggest that not only is this an unfair comparison but also a harmful one. Video games, by their very nature, are an intricately different medium and should be weighed against one another rather than another form of media," Phillip writes for GF365.

Yes, please stop. They're better than most hollywood drivel nowadays.

BLAKHOODe1992d ago

I think Hollywood films will becoming increasingly more like video games in the future, especially as the world embraces the "new normal" from the pandemic. It makes sense, as games like Spider-Man: Miles Morales showcase just how realistically we're reaching in graphical capabilities, as well as showcase extreme action sequences in spectacular ways. And as time goes by, it'll get easier and cheaper to produce such "art", as well as create new star "actors" that never age, never die, never complain, never gets involved in scandals, etc. Technology is amazing and we're only just getting a taste of what it'll eventually be.

sourOG1992d ago

No. Some games are like movies.

medman1991d ago (Edited 1991d ago )

No. For the money spent, a quality game provides far more entertainment value than a quality movie. Especially when looking at what is going on in the world, and how a studio can attempt to pilfer from consumers by charging 30 dollars for Mulan via streaming. Ridiculous. There is no comparison....games all day.
