...hacking for trophies is not the solution. The solution is not obsessing over trophies. Trophies are fun, sure... but they're not the point of the game. If you're not having fun, why do it?

This is why I hate Trophies & Achievements... People just play the game for the reward, not because the game is good. How pathetic.

Dude... no one was forcing this guy to take his trophies so seriously they broke his love of gaming. Some people are way over-competitive. I've seen people get competitive over how competitive they are... and they even asked an innocent bystander to referee the discussion to see who had the better argument.

I like getting achievements and trophies. Really I do. But I like it about as much as I like cutscenes, blood and gore, or taking a Prestige. It's all ancillary to the actual game play, which has to be solid enough on its own. And trophies/'chievies are not "game play".

SOCOM trophies take to long to get. I admit that I'm a trophy whore. What I'm thinking is if I don't get over 50% of the SOCOM trophy collection by the time SOCOM 4 comes out I'm using this hack period.

I don't care what you guys think.

And what I don't understand is why doesn't /6 make a Team D game mode that is ranked with Infinite re-spawn count...It pisses me off when I have to wait 3 minutes after I've died to play another game.

This happens on the 360 also. You can get one of those harddrive kit things for the 360s harddrive and copy peoples saves onto them. Then you can get a 100% achievement completion for any game.

oh and FYI, if this happened on Xbox Live you would most likely be banned fairly quickly, and since you pay for a gold account and PSN is free, theres no penalty in doing it on PSN

Same with the COD hacking, on PS3 you could just make accounts for COD and hack away.

The author has descended into the dark side. Next week I'm looking forward to hearing how he started Boosting, Glitching, and Hacking in order to make his games more enjoyable. He has become a CHEATER… which is the 2nd lowest position a gamer can become; only slightly above those who pirate games.

@matta - Oh, cram it. Doing whatever you want with your own stuff is one thing. I've played single-player games with cheats enabled, if anybody's being hurt there, it's me.

But cheating in a multiplayer game is something else entirely - then you are ruining the experience for other people. And yeah, that *is* low.

Sheer stupidity at its best .... after someone's else article last week starting with "i loved game so much , used to buy crap just for gamertag score , and now i'm tired of gaming " ....

Both are the kind that would ruins multiplayer for old and stupid achievements (like friendly fire , or suicides) wich thanks god no longer exists in most games .
Wich in turn means the only people they'd harm is themselves .

I just saw someone the other day who had all the Bad Company (1) trophies that I'm working on unlocked all at the same time, date, etc. and I had no idea how that could happen until I read this article. I thought maybe trophy support had been added and it awarded them retroactively or something.

Anyways, I agree with the several comments above about the enjoyability of getting and comparing trophies, but not for competition. I've always like to really complete my games as much as possible and I love the trophy system because it gives me a centralized location on the console to view my various "completions" of games. I know that not all trophies fall into this category- and not all games have trophies- but it works for me.

Something that has always confounded me is why people buy/rent games that they don't enjoy playing in order to amass trophies and gamerscore points. If these systems introduce players to new games or game types they wouldn't play normally and they do end up enjoying them, well thats all the better. But playing a game you dont like? For what? Wheres the gaming? Are these the people who complain about "casual" games on the Wii? Would "Trophiis" make them more likely to keep an open mind?

I don't mean to stray so much its just that this culture is changing rapidly and I feel I'm finally at an age where I don't want to adapt if this type of "gaming" is the implication. To end I guess I'll say that I'm glad the author reconnected with "Gaming" as such- as an end in itself and not the means to an end; and disappointed that he need to use "inauthentic" methods to achieve that reconnection.

Well there goes the "legitimacy" of Trophies.. Same thing happened to Achievements. Hopefully Sony does what MS did/does and reset the people and publicly humiliate them by labeling their gamer card as a cheater.

You have to be a complete loser to hack trophies. If you do not want to feel enslaved to the trophy system, then just ignore the trophies and play what you want to play. Hacking trophies to make yourself feel better is pathetic. Not only is the author dishonest, but he also apparently has no will power.

I couldn't care less about trophies. I'm actually sometimes stunned when people mention buying bad games, 'Just for the trophies'. I honestly had to read up a little to make sure trophies didn't do anything like convert to digital cash for DLC or something. When I was a kid the insane amount of time I spent playing videogames was something I was ashamed of, now it seems it'd be a cause for bragging rights.

The idea that the competitive nature of trophy hunters ruins games for people like me is ridiculous though. It baffles me but damn, if that's what they want to spend their time and money on it's their business.

Okay... there's one way it bothers me. When I'm playing L4D2 and I'm roped into trying to earn us all a meaningless trophy (using glitches and stuff) rather than enjoying the game. Then it bothers me. I truly don't understand people who care more about being told they've won than enjoying the game. You'd get these same kinds of people without trophies though, glitching games of Left 4 dead in order to show off that they lasted half an hour (of crouching down outside of the map) in Survival mode.

Hmmm, I guess that doesn't make sense. I've never really paid attention to the things so I don't know which is which. I play L4D2 on Steam. I don't know if it's a system built into Steam or just something for that game but there's something like that. Some kind of trophy system that keeps meaning I have to sit around for half an hour while someone glitches themselves out of the map or something so they can get the award.

Ironically enough, "gamers" like this guy are what makes me sad to be a gamer in the first place. I've been gaming since Intellivision, so I've seen the way the industry and community have changed over the years, and all this emphasis on trophies/achievements, along with single player games apparently not being worth full price anymore has disgusted me beyond belief.
