I can't wait until everything is wireless. But I like the overall theme of how it makes our gaming/tech much more disconnected/distant from us in a physical way. Interesting idea...

tripping over cable from my ps2 controller made me damage my console :(, i hope for wireless electricity someday, would make life a lot easier

MmaFanQc5936d ago

stop using your cars and use horses.

PaLaK-5936d ago

Omg I remember when people used to walk in the room and trip over the cable, I think I damaged a game like that and the console would fall, or the controller would be disconnected and I'd be annoyed if I was on a really hard bit of a game! Therefore, Like Startwars before me I have no qualms with me wireless controller! I did love the PS2 dualshock 2 though, I had some see through emerald, ruby and sapphire coloured ones xD I also liked the N64 controller, who remembers the Z button?

Buy a bunch of rechargeable batteries and always keep a charged spare set. Costs about a tenner for a charger and a few pairs for multiple controllers, the cost of charging batteries is a couple pence a pop. Insignificant. Problem solved.

High frequency wireless technology is so fast and stable there is no major latency issues 6 feet away from a console. Professional gamers on Pc use wired because of the risk however teeny of batteries dying or interferance at LANs, and they value every millisecond they usually set their games to run several hundred frames a second to minimise their response time. Clearly those problems do not really exist or apply for casual console gamers who want pretty, 30 frames a second sofa gaming. You expect slight latency playing most console games. Its a fact of life.

Next the author will be be pining for the days of CRT screens and 56k gaming. Get with the program already

Actually we've been working on wireless electricity for some time now.

"1893: Tesla demonstrates the wireless illumination of phosphorescent lamps of his design at the World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago."

Or have you seen those commercials for wirelessly recharging cell phones, etc?

Uzesgelen_Goo5935d ago

yeah i remember what Tesla was trying to do. oh man he was such a great man....

ThanatosDMC5935d ago

I remember watching Tesla in the Prestige, one of the five free bluray movies i received from the promo. Didnt know it was real.

siyrobbo5935d ago

Tesla was a real person, but the prestige is fictional film

Syronicus5935d ago

I used the Logitech wireless ones. They were awesome too. For the Gamecube I used the Wavebird. I have not used wired controllers for years and will never go back.

Interesting viewpoint, but I have no qualms with my wireless PS3 controller.

BldyShdw5935d ago

haha someone disagreed with you, are they trying to say wireless ps3 controllers dont exist?

thedoctor5936d ago (Edited 5936d ago )

Old people are old.

Sticking to wired controllers out of some boner-inducing memory is ludicrous. Sure, it's fun to remember the good old days of gaming, but trying to create an argument as to why wired controllers are somehow BETTER?

Pull the other one.

Bnet3435935d ago

Well for fighting games, they are really strict with anything wireless. In fighting game tournaments, they don't even use HDTV's and no way do they use wireless sticks or controllers. The slightest bit of lag can hurt anyone when it comes to fighting games. This is also true with mice on PC. A lot of gaming mice are wired to avoid any kind of latency. Gamers want the ultimate precision. That's the only reason I can think of besides not having to deal with batteries or recharging.

SkankinGarbage5936d ago

I don't think making a controller wireless reduces the 'physicality' of gaming at all. I don't know anyone who now coldly plays XBox from their chair on the far end of the room, otherwise unsuitable for gaming given its distance from the console.

themizarkshow5936d ago

I agree... but when he strayed to the point of digital downloads and cloud computing I think it raises a good point. I love seeing the cases on my shelf, standing proud like trophies of my awesome accomplishments. Having a list on the tv instead of that physical thing is very different and feels much more distant/empty in a sense.

But that could be my materialism talking...

tdogchristy905936d ago

I couldn't agree with you more. Yeah digital distribution shall have it's place, it's nice to be able to conserve resources and not clutter. But I agree with you, it's nice to be able to hold something physical, something that truely has value that you worked hard for to get. It's the same way with cash/gold vs. credit cards. I will always want some hard form of currency.

Yuenanimous5936d ago

Man I love wireless controllers. They provide the convenient excuse of "Oh come on... there's a delay!" when getting my ass kicked in SFIV
