No, dude. Nvidia artificially keeps prices high on their cards so companies like Sony and Microsoft can't reduce the prices of their consoles over time. Sony should sign a contract that stipulates that they have control over the chip's manufacturing and price.

Also, I'm pumped to see what both companies have to offer next gen. I have confidence in Sony's hardware. Now, let's see if Microsoft can step their game up.

Keep doing your thing HHG. The haters are on their way.

TOO PAWNED5794d ago (Edited 5794d ago )

there is no such thing as "limitless" power. This is ridiculous.
BTW who cares about PS4, i don't want to hear about "nextgen" for at least another 3 years.
EDIT: He completely come up with this Nvidia PS4 Limitless crap. Nvidia guy no where in vid mentions anything about PS4 having "limitless" GPU or what ever. He only said that they would love to work on chip, for next PS. Incredible

kaveti66165794d ago

He was embellishing about the potential being plentiful. How many times have you heard people on this site saying the Cell has limitless potential?

About the Splinter Cell, I think Ubisoft would make both versions equal. So far in this generation, most developers have strove for equal parity between consoles. I don't see why Ubisoft would suddenly decide to take full advantage of the PS3 for a multiplatform game.

tmt3455794d ago (Edited 5794d ago )

HHG knows NOTHING about the PS4, sure it will probably be powered by an nvidia graphics card but he's just looking for hits...

and can somebody PLEASE tell me where I can block HHG, months ago we were told we were going to get a feature on N4G where we could block people like HHG but I think I missed the announcement or something.

baum5794d ago

"Sony should sign a contract that stipulates that they have control over the chip's manufacturing and price"

Uh... they do, Sony didn't make the same stupid mistake as Microsoft did last gen. That's why Sony was able to sell Toshiba a plant that manufactures the RSX, so Sony gets capital and Toshiba gets a piece of each RSX produced. If Sony didn't have control of the chip they wouldn't have been able to do that. Sony owns all RSX patents.

iFLOWLIKEWATER5794d ago

I don't think will be seeing new consoles for another 3-4 years personally. I mean Crysis hasn't even been unseated yet and once that happens and we see a sh*tload of games surpassing Crysis(in everyway possible, graphics, gameplay etc...) then there really isn't a need for new consoles yet. If they do decide to launch new consoles earlier than what I mentioned then they better be doing something astronomically impressive.

BTW, I'm loving every minute of AVP. Maybe its because I'm a die hard fan of both franchises. Any fan thats on the fence about getting it, just know that this game is better than the last 5 movies with Aliens and or Predators.

ProjectVulcan5794d ago (Edited 5794d ago )

Sony made the same mistake as microsoft did with their nvidia powered xbox. They do not own the rights to the design of the RSX. Nvidia can keep them over a barrel on the cost of the chip, exactly like they did to the Xbox GPU- forcing microsofts decision to switch to the red team. When microsoft went to Ati for 360, the first thing they specified was that the design of this particular custom chip was to be owned by microsoft, and thus they can find the cheapest manufacturer themselves as they please with no licensing issues

Unfortunately for Sony and the PS3, the generation of graphics the present consoles were built on, Ati held the performance crown and had a distinct edge in architecture. The X1900 series were faster and more advanced than the Geforce 7 of the time, capable of HDR and AA simultaneously etc. PS3 ended up with a chip from a company behind Ati in 2005, that was not really custom built for the machine unlike Xenos. Had sony known that bluray would delay the Ps3 launch to a year after 360, maybe they could have waited and ended up with a G80 derived GPU in Ps3. That would have made PS3 even more powerful.

Fast forward. If the next generation consoles really are out in 2013, the contracts for the GPU will be on the table. Microsoft have had such a WIN with Ati, they are certainly going to stick with them. Sony need to hope that when its time to start sketching the PS4, nvidia have an architectural and design edge that will translate into the fastest GPU for their machine

1) How awesome is hiphopgranny?... too awesome.

2) @08.30; that's the thing that really drives me batty about the hype around MS marketing. That feature being talked about was from SOCOM 1 over 7yrs ago but they put it in a current gen game as a 360 exclusive and it's treated like a revolution in gaming when in fact it's been around for almost a decade.

Just in case some newage gamers aren't aware of SOCOM1&2 campaign gameplay I'll attach a vid of gamplay and gamespot's review back in the day... when GS & Gamefaqs were the defacto gaming site around.

3) That Luciano/Jackal jump off on the RSS was R-I-D-I-C-U-L-O-U-S! Sickest flow I've heard in a while. That DJ (yeah, I'm ol' school XD ) that mixes your joint needs some special love from you guys. 100% pure.

4) Loved the show.

DaTruth5794d ago (Edited 5794d ago )

How could the RSX not be custom built? It had to be custom built to work with the Cell and XDR ram. I'm pretty sure Nvidia don't have a line of XDR and Cell compatible GPU's that aren't for PS3!

Immortal3215794d ago

I can't believe big sites like Gamespot are depress in big gaming event.

another thing ppl need to stop hating on hhg, he "is" the fresh air in gaming.

yo hiphop 1luv and god bless keep doing your thing.

menoyou5794d ago

nVidia sucks this gen, this is bad news if true.

ProjectVulcan5794d ago (Edited 5794d ago )

Ok well i will correct the first thing i said, RSX is an IP delivered to sony, but from what i have heard sony do not have exactly the same sort of deal in place with nvidia as microsoft have with ATi.

As for RSX not being a custom design- I will refine this statement for you. RSX is closely related to NV47 (aka geforce 7800). In fact, its so similar its fair to say its practically an off the shelf chip. When sony approached nvidia for a GPU, Nvidia didnt take a blank sheet of paper and knock something up from scratch. They looked at their portfolio, took what is essentially a geforce 7800 core and moulded it into Ps3's design.

Microsoft went to Ati and they DID take a clean sheet of paper. They looked at the future heading of graphics design, They laid out their own specifications with a completely different architecture to the current designs that were on the market, a unified shader GPU with purpose built NEC EDRAM and logic daughter die with an integrated tesselation unit. Ati already had the edge over geforce 7 as the X1900 ruled the GPU world (yes X1900 came out a month after 360, but it was taped out long before and 360 was rushed into production) they just took it a step further with Xenos.

PS3's GPU is a butchered geforce 7800 with pumped clocks and the bandwidth of a 7600 series. It comes with all its inherent architectural limitations and history. Xenos was the world's first unified shader GPU an entire year before the first DX10 unified PC parts. It has a hardware tesselator that is only just being made mandatory for Direct x 11 spec, four years later....

MrMiyagi5794d ago

Honestly, i don't see next-gen starting anytime soon. When this gen started, Crysis set the benchmark way up there. I don't see any game now or anytime soon trumping Crysis. But i do see there are games that are getting closer and closer to the power jauggernaut that is Crysis. Games like God of War pushing this gen of games to new heights, and new ways to develop games. There are some studios that are just learning what "MLAA" is, and just now including it in their games.
Games have always been developed the same way ever since the pc ages. Consequently, developers are taking YEARS to develop current gen games, and production costs are soaring. Just take Allen Wake and War Devil for example...

In short, a new game should bench Next gen games, and if we do not find new tools and ways to develop games, studios are going to suffer.

evrfighter5794d ago (Edited 5794d ago )

In true Nvidia fashion the next playstation console

It will be powered by a rebadged RSX dubbed RSX Type-R

The hardware will be exactly the same but since it has an updated name it'll be the...

BEST TECH EVARRRR!!!11!!!

lol most of you ps3 fanboys really need to read how Nvidia is doing nowadays. I think the G92 chip has been rebadged by them about 5 times already. They've take the Activision route of trying to screw over the average chump by releasing G92 as a new product every year since its release.

PaLaK-5794d ago

I got my ps2 at launch, and it lasted me a good 6 years of hardcore play, and in 2007 when the ps3 came out I played it now and then. I got the ps3 for my birthday in march 2008, and it's still 2010! Before 2014 will be too early, I hope MS doesn't do what they did this gen, just rush out a broken console, and in effect they made sony rush out the ps3, although at least sony did make a better piece of hardware. The original xbox was good, but the world is run by money and the PS2 absolutely hammered it in sales.. so I'm guessing we're getting another 360 type console :( lol btw, MS has made around 1billion dollars or more due to the xbox live membership, whereas sony has made none from PSN! Thank you sony for my free online!

zuesholmes5794d ago

The comment about voice commands makes me wonder about his game knowledge. Voice commands have been around along time, thats not new or innovative. I kinda like HHG and the PS4 comment is just a way to try to boost his site, people do it on here to try to get a attention to so don't talk if you do it to :P.

Therealspy17765794d ago (Edited 5794d ago )

he's been doin this for how long? and he still can't vid cap his reviews? he's just pointing a camera at the screen....

@palak...ps3 came out in 2006. and 360 came out in 2005. i don't know what all of you are saying, but i'm just about ready for a new gen. i can hold out another year or two, but as someone else said, when 2007 had a game (crysis) that looks leaps and bounds better than anything we've seen since (especially on console), i'm ready for some improved hardware.

EvilBlackCat5794d ago (Edited 5794d ago )

People who criticize NATAL is just because they don't have NO creativity whatsoever in them. PERIOD

WITH NATAL a lot of crazy things can be achieved in games.

Like the example he explained with Ghost Recon. We know voice command is not new but this time you dont need a mic and is better this time but also think about this what about HAND SIGNALS??? uhh???

imaging doing hand signals to your team at ghost recon. NOW i know you are like FTW!!!! unless you are a hater of course.

What about playing Ace Combat or any other jet fighter game and you can "touch" the panel of the c0ckpit to activate some features? What about EJECT EJECT EJECT using hand signal?

ALL you hatin on NATAL are just simply jealous that Sony PS try to achieve this things in games using eye toy and they were so dumb and dropped it. But its funny to see how you guys now are so hyped about their dildo mote but back in the early days of the wii with the wiimote you bash it the wiimote.

Come on ignorant fools NATAL is the future in gaming. They are not going to drop Controls dont be fool because they are not you to do so FOOLS.

Next time before you criticize NATAL ask yourself this question

Am i a creative person?

EDIT

What about Mass Effect using NATAL?

What about Splinter Cell?

What about the next RTS games?

Come on fools be creatives its clear you all NATAL haters have a big mouth but what about BIG creativity? NO you guys dont have that all you do is just smash buttons and are fncking afraid of exploring other way and kind of interactivity but you know that if it was only Sony behind all this you will be like

OOOHH NATAL IS THE SH1T!!!

Funny that in Minority Report it was cool right? but hey i guess for you guys multi touch screen is better.

GameGambits5794d ago

LMAO @ AvP review. Get the hell out of here you super troll of the internet.

davekaos5794d ago

YO HHG love the show and everything but something came up that you said about ghost recon.
The voice recognition in the game to give out orders and stuff and how its next gen.
Well actually it was last gen. Anyone who played socom for the ps2 will know this

BattleAxe5794d ago

I'm not sure if you know this, but all of the PS2 Socom games allowed you to command your squad using voice commands through the headset, so this is nothing new.

GIJeff5794d ago

The ps3 uses a slightly modded 7800GTX while the 360 uses a modded x1600.

ProjectVulcan5793d ago

PS3 does have a cut up 7800 stangled by its halved bus bandwidth and ROPs. Xenos is however much bigger and faster than an X1600, and bigger than RSX too. 330m transistors versus only 300m on RSX. Its performance is roughly akin to an X1900 series of which it shares a similar transistor count, slower clocks but more advanced design- there is no avoiding the fact xenos has ten percent more transistors, more efficient because of its architecture and overall simply faster than RSX, as X1900 was faster than the 7800 series.

Almost certainly because of the edge ATI had when the consoles were designed

Cold 20005794d ago (Edited 5794d ago )

I bet we'll be seeing both for the first time Xbox 720 and PS4 by E3 2011.

And I hope next gen brings something revolutionary to gaming, not just better graphics.

ViciousBoston5794d ago

Cold I think you're close but not far off. More likely to see Consoles 2012-2013 unveiled then launched in 2015. If I can take this one step further, Sony will be pushing to make sure what happened this generation won't happen next, 1 year headstart. I expect Simultaneous launch or Sony to push it out first. Why? Taking all my Sony love out of it I believe they will go with the old addage "Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me"

Proxy5794d ago

MW5 is where the money is at.

evrfighter5794d ago

im expecting to see new console announcements next year. Launching in 2012-2013

Shaman5794d ago (Edited 5794d ago )

LOL EVERY new gen of consoles is "limitless".I would be happy to see games running at 1080p with 4xaa on some good looking games.BUT,we wont, there is always resolution to sacrifice for better shaders, more polygons, lightning, physics etc...

I mean even if they had all the budget in the world, companies would never be able to fit enormous number of transistors on die.Even if they do,whats with power consummation and heating?
Judging by new gpus and cpus, they go skyhigh with power, but when it comes to heating they dont really care that much.He has no idea what hes talking about...

720p 4xaa and some pretty neat looking game will be great for next gen,but we dont need one right now.

@above

You are right,if they planned it 2 yrs ago or example, they will release. If anyone of BIG THREE release new console, the other two will have to follow,if they dont want to be outdated...
Nintendo could easily release new Wii HD,with some middle range gpu,and 1 GB and quad core. Its game over for Sony and MS...

Hotel_Moscow5794d ago

technically it is limitless each year we see graphics out performing the year before

sabestar5794d ago

I really hope not about Ghost Recon using motion control. I mean it will be cool at the beginning but extremely tiring after a short time. And oh, based on what we saw with the PS3, it is safe to say the PS4 will use also Nvidia.

TOO PAWNED5794d ago

Nvidia sucks man. PS3 GPU sucks, CELL is what makes PS3 superior over 360, believe it or not 360 actually has stronger GPU. Sony should drop nvidia, overrated + expensive.

kaveti66165794d ago

The PS3 architecture was designed to have the Cell work with the RSX to produce graphics. I heard a rumor that Sony's Cell on its own was designed to be more powerful than the entire 360 hardware (CPU + GPU), and that Sony just added in the RSX at kind of a short notice just so they would have a major jump on the 360. It's just a rumor I heard.

Anyway, I agree that Sony should ditch Nvidia and just stick with ATI like Microsoft did. ATI cards have a better price to performance ratio and what really matters in the console this gen around is the CPU. So, both MS and Sony could have similar GPUs but drastically different CPUs.

sabestar5794d ago

I'll be frank with you, I have no clue how good or bad Nvidia is. As I have always used an ATI graphics card and I love them. I currently have a HD 4890 1gb and boy is it a beast, hehe.

Raf1k15794d ago (Edited 5794d ago )

It's true that the 360s GPU is more powerful but from what I read a few years back the difference isn't huge.

edit: Can't find the article I read so long ago. Anyway the 360s GPU is definitely more powerful and from the info I just came across via google it seems by a decent margin too.

edit: @Shaman, clearly you know more about the workings of computer hardware than I do but that block of text was difficult to read through.
Nice to read about the technical aspects of gaming hardware every now and again but could you try and simplify it as much as you can please? I know some people on here would appreciate it as it seems we could learn quite a bit from you. + bubble from me.

Shaman5794d ago (Edited 5794d ago )

First thing is that you wont see Sony go to Ati for card.Second thing,Nvidia is not bad,its just that Sony gone for the RSX in last minute. That was their only design back then, and Nvidia thought"to hell,we will sell RSX with old design for quite a lot of money"for Nvidia it made perfect sense. Now Ken wanted two Cells, one cpu one gpu. That would NEVER work, developers would probably go nut about the idea only, not to talk about execution to develop on cpu,a gpu job.

Third,Cell alone is not good as RSX if you go by graphics rendering.Simply put,RSX rastarizer mops the floor with cell.Cell is like all cpus, but spus are quite adequate for work like culling, deferred rendering and taking vertex workload of gpu.Texturing? It would kill cell and all cpus in the world, spus 265kb of cache memory couldnt fit simplest texture,it would never work. Not to talk about Larabee,it was something similar to cell,80 cores, acts like cpu but does gpu job,FAILED.Anyway, that rumor is big big lie,one cell would make Sony life miserable...

Raf1k1...

RSX is striped down 7800gtx,with 8 Rops less, and half bandwidth cut.But in closed box it acts better then 7800gtx,because you can play on its strenght, and on 720p you wont need those 8 Rops. Now Xenos is simmilar to 1950xt,but its generaly accepted that in fixed platform solution it is something between 1950xt and 2900 xt...Now count in frame buffer for aa and aplha blending,as well you can get pretty good doing deferred rendering on it,its definitly something between. It has double the ammount of pipelines of RSX,that are unified so you can use them on vertex or pixels, depends on bottleneck. It is also 95% of efficiency while RSX has 65%,needless to say that when comparing 1950xt-2900xt with 7800gtx,you will get about 35% better results,in closed box with Edram and smart use of unified structure and memexport, even more. But of course things get different when spus come to play, but its actually funny watching you people saying it will give big edge over 360 but never even heard or read how much spus can help.Just for info one spu, fully utilized can process 750K culled triangles per FRAME,that is about 25 mil per sec,and RSX can 275 mil, while Xenos can 500 mil.

Of course those are theoreticall, you wont see much games pushing more then 40 mil per sec,or 1.5 mil per frame, but even with that you can see that 6 spus still dont equal RSX...neither 10 would...

Ati is the only one responsibile that 360 is not getting rapped by ps3(dont count KZ2 and UC2)

dangert125794d ago

he said squad based commands which wouldt be tiring at all thats easier then using the d pad for comands etc

HappyTrigger5794d ago

If you are comparing X360 GPU vs PS3 GPU, the Xbox 360 comes out on top. http://forum.pcvsconsole.co...

http://www.technobuffalo.co...

-------

But I guess if you include the Cell processor, then the PS3 can definitely do more work.

Serg5794d ago

They will probably scrap the GPU as we know it and throw in a second Cell to do the job like they first intended with the PS3 - or the next iteration of it. They have added the RSX on short notice because Cell + Cell would be way too complicated to learn for developers. We had a new article every day some years ago about another developer who struggles with the Cell, imagine 2 Cells back in 2006.

Now that most developers are familiar with the architechture it isn't that big of a stretch to suggest they would go with 2 Cells. Sony stated that the Cell is able to function as a GPU.

But all speculation aside, is there a need for a new PlayStation? We haven't seen where the PS3s power ends. Games keep coming out that surpass the previously "best graphics on consoles" with no end in sight.

IHateYouFanboys5794d ago

some of you guys seem to be forgetting that IBM have CEASED development on the Cell processor. this means that if sony want to use the Cell for the PS4, theyre gonna have basically the same processor thats in the PS3 in the PS4 - and thats instant fail right there.

sony will have learned from their mistakes this generation. next gen you will see a lower price, integrated online, a better GPU, and a return to a more standard CPU design. the Cell failed in what sony wanted it to do - become the defacto CPU for everything from mobile phones to microwaves to game consoles - and its developers, IBM, have moved on.

http://www.thesixthaxis.com...

the Cell is just too much of a change from conventional programming to be made the standard. different just for the sake of it isnt a good thing. when you have a 'lowly' triple core CPU in the 360 that is capable of 99% of the computational stuff that the Cell is capable of, yet EVERY programmer knows how to program for very well, it doesnt take too much guess work to see why the Cell 'experiment' didnt catch on. when you have a company like Valve, who are undeniably one of the best and most highly regarded development companies in the world, who STILL havent released a PS3 game because they dont feel its worth it, that speaks loads.

mark my words - the next PS will NOT use any form of the Cell processor whatsoever.

sikbeta5794d ago (Edited 5794d ago )

Sorry but, isn't like Sony can ask to IBM to make a New CELL for Them, like The EE, it's a "custom" CPU only used on the PS2, I don't think they'll ditch the CELL so easy, I mean it doesn't matter if the Cell is not used everywhere in every component, but the PS4 will must be Backward Compatible, if now people are whining cuz they don't have BC... and It must be a kind of "solution" to work with the same architecture from now on stick with the same, ask for a more powerful chip, add a More Powerful GPU, ADD MORE RAM, BC ready and such...

shadow27975794d ago

@IHateYouFanboys

"Update: It appears that the sourced article at Fudzilla isn’t quite the full story. Reading further into this, the original German story at Heise actually states that it’s only the planned successor to the current PowerXCell-8i processor, slated to have two PowerPC processors and 32 SPEs, that will not be released. There’s no specific mention that IBM are halting the development of other Cell processors in the report, and thus there’s every chance that the PS4 could still use some variant of the Cell. Hope this clears up this story somewhat."

Loved Ecco on Megadrive/Genesis. Diving out of the water was always a fun feeling, and the whole 'vibe' while playing/exploring was pretty chill and special.

Always hoped we'd get a proper 3D sequel with modern-tech water-graphics and physics. (Same wish for Wave Racer btw).

Rebel_Scum1d 20h ago

It was pretty chill until you get to the last 2 or 3 levels. My god Welcome to the Machine was brutal.

killagram1d 14h ago

You can always play an emulated Ecco: Defender of the Future on Flycast, or if you have a real Dreamcast play it there.

fr0sty1d 9h ago

This makes me smile. I hope that the game and especially the soundtrack keep the same relaxed vibe.

Rebel_Scum1d 20h ago

That is amazing news. Keep it level based or metroidvania but dont go the roguelike route and it should be good.

Now do Shining Force, the small but passionate fanbase wants a new game so badly.
