Games32: Mass Effect 2 (PC) Review

Mass Effect 2 is the comeback of one of our most beloved games we ever played here at Games32, and the highest rated review to date. While everyone reckons nothing is perfect, Mass Effect managed to be such a fun and enjoyable game for a wide variety of players that is really pointless to point out flaws and one is better off showing how much this game - or rather how much you, as a player, can accomplish through it.

Got it on PC and man it looks so sweet on high settings I keep dying whilst looking at the scenery. The sound is top notch as well. It really is a huge leap from the first ME.

There are some glitchy spots. Ran into a one last night. There is one side quest where you land on an abandoned ship hanging off a cliff. You are suppose to traverse the wreckage (as it creaks, moans and parts fall) to get to the other side. Problem is, I kept getting hung up on a small lip that I was supposed to go over and was then "airwalking" with no remedy, save to restart the mission.

This minor nussance aside, the level design is not as "blocky" as some people have said in other posts. Yes, there are some standard "battle areas" but it is different on each planet. Plus, there are VAST enviormentnal effects (sun that kills if you go into it; foggy moons with wicked creatures, etc)

I really like the level design and the top notch graphics really make for a great platform for fighting sequences.

The story is wonderful, you will spend hours just talking to people, doing side quests for them and befriending them. I very rarely get "emotionaly attached" to my character. The only other recent game Is Demons Souls but that was not due to his personality (there was none) rather all the time and efforts I put in to not dying, lol)

Overall, I think this game really does deserve the high marks. Massive universe to explore, believeable characters, awesome weapons, great battles, tons of side quests, the works.

I would recommend it to anyone who even remotely liked the first one and is a fan of action/RPGs and considering that FFIII has removed, what was to me, anyway, the best part about playing an RPG (towns, NPC, exploring) this would be a must have to fill that void.

Just my opinion, though. But, I really do feel that I should receommend this game.

To think that Bioware at some point was capable of doing games like this, you see those characters and remember them like good old friends, and now check ME Andromeda, Anthem, Veilguard etc and wonder what the hell happened.

They lost too much talent.

IAMRealHooman525d ago

some in andromeda are decent, I agree with peebee and Vetra being good companions. Except Liam he's trash tier

Loved Alpha Protocol in all it's glorious jank. Great game.

SimpleSlave773d ago (Edited 773d ago )

Not only glorious jank, but the idea that the story can completely change depending on what you do, or say, or side with, makes it one of the most forward thinking games ever. The amount of story permutation is the equivalent of a Hitman level but in Story Form. And it wasn't just that the story changed, no, it was that you met completely new characters, or missed them, depending on your choices. Made Mass Effect feel static in comparison.

Alpha Protocol was absolutely glorious, indeed. And it was, and still is, more Next Gen than most anything out there these days. In this regard at least.

Pity.
