Square Enix Considering FFVII Remake?

I dont think they have the talent right now to do this any justice, so i hope they hold off. I dont doubt that the crystal tools can produce something which looks and plays amazing but i just think they'd c0ck it up by removing all town and exploration elements from a game where the amosphere and immersion of those towns and places were what defined it.

Guys, FFVII Remake is the "Last Hope", knowing how everything is turning out for S-E, if the company start to sink fast, FFVII Remake is set to save them and if that happen Sony will show up to "Help" them and save their @sses as usual

Gives them (hopefully) 2-3 years till launch, then the inevitable SE delay of about a year and a half giving them between 4 and 5 years to get this done. Although it'll probably get pushed back even further if it actually happens.

Its becoming clear to me, with all their whining and waffling on the subject, that they either aren't talented enough to do it right, or they want to take in a wholly wrong direction. Build it based on a new engine in the fashion of an MMO like everyone seems to be doing with JRPGs, instead of a "retooled" FFVII~FFX in HD.

Don't know about anyone else, but that's what I want to see.

I would love to see a remake but I'm not convinced that Square would do it justice. There will be excitement and anxiety if a remake ever gets announced. I may be strange though. I really want some turn based combat and I know the majority of people hate turn based combat. I'd love to see the return of the materia system too.

I really want a remake, because I played FF8 first during the PS1 era, and now I cannot go back and play FF7 because the graphics really put me off. I've always wanted to play it, so I hope they do a remake, I would definitely buy it.

I think the original has too maskulin elements and that is not the way of Square Enix - obviously. A remake, if ever, will be way different in that regard. So I won't buy it if I am right.

you'd think after all the denial from all these square executives that some people would understand that a remake isn't possible right now because they are already working on 2(3?) final fantasy games ( ff13 versus , ff14 , ff13 psp )

the people who fuel this rumor cling to the small movie demo ( released back then ) and it doesn't prove anything
There was a ff6 tech demo back then and i didn't see a ff6 remake ( just crappy ports )

Heck even when they annonced dissidia , they first showed characters from others FFs ..

FFVI would be my choice for a remake first. IMO it's a stronger story with a better villain. Sure Sepheroth is a cool bad-guy, but he isn't nearly as "pure" evil as Kefka. Just saying.

If it ever happens it'd be a 6m seller on PS3 alone. 10m multiplat, maybe 12m if on PC as well.

It's nothing to do with budgets or talent it's 100% to do with SE's strategy of changing their production methods.
Appealing to western gamers and streamlining gameplay and level design to ensure faster production of lower quality and budget yet massive selling RPG's.

Look at Resident Evil 5 compared to Resident Evil 2 to see what I mean.

How many years have the fans wanted a remake? Instead SE throw some other semi-related, sub-par games and films our way with a back-handed promise of a remake if we buy it all?

The way SE are with their RPGs, I'm amazed they've waited this long to just remake a classic, which will invariably make sales. Capcom's been doing it for years with Street Fighter, why not them?

No towns if if goes multiplat thats for sure. Let Nomura handle the remake or dont do it at all cause i dont think Kitase is up for the job.

They cant exactly do a final fantasy 7 remake and get rid of the towns. Same game, updated graphics. Thats what everyone wants, at least thats what I want.

i was initially excited about the prospect of a FF7 remake but after playing the original again id say leave it well alone. The PS1 version is a masterpiece and still very playable today. A remake would have stupidly high expectations placed on it which i doubt ANY game would be able to fulfil...leave it well alone but by all means expand the universe a la advent children/crisis core etc.

If they would, they would probably replace materia with a spell grid.
And they would remove gold and leveling.
And turn the summons into stupid pokemon sidekicks.
They would remove the world map.
And who knows what more.

I hope they don't, square seem to be doing the FF series more harm than good at the moment. What I'll say to square is Please leave this classic alone and focus on improving future FF games and also look at the things that made that game great and try to replicate it, please do not remake FF 7.

remaking it would surely put sony ahead than xbox, thats from business standpoint and doing ffvii makes it just a teenybit simpler because story is already done, just revamp the graphics,

but on the other side the director might not just revamp it, he might change the cinematics and all and make it more complex so it would take time too. but id lke a remake just to show off my console :)

You really think SE are stupid enough NOT to make a remake or sequel for ff7 considering the meteoric demand for it? C'mon. It's a no brainer. It's a question of when not if.

Heh, it'd be pretty funny to see it rip halo to shreds in days though (if and when it does come).

Don't see why everyones making a big deal over rumours, common sense prevails >.>!

that's how I see it I would love to see a remake but they have a lot of work already with the current projects, so they cant start until 2011 and if/when they start this will take about 4-5 years at best so we r going to see it 2015-16 that's a lot of time... Even so just learning news every few months about their progress will make me happy, just to know that they work on it :D just think how wonderful this game could be with crazy cg-like graphics and all the FMV in 1080p full HD TOP of the TOP quality the game will be fcking awesome! :D also new effects for spells/summons/limits cant w8 to see Knights of the Round & Omnislash in this new "mind-blowing" version :O

make the god-damn announcement already! >.<

Hopefully, a remake sooner than later. I'm glad PSN has FF VII & VIII available for those that missed out or were too young. I still have my original PS1 copies of VII-IX. I just hope they give us a better freaking ending, which was very disappointing. It seems SS now SE couldn't make up their mind in 1996/97 on how to conclude it. At least PSP Crysis Core filled in story gaps as a prequel of VII and provided a more satisfying game ending. Heck, the CG cutscenes in that game is better than most PC or current console CG cutscenes for narration purposes.

100% agree, Crisis Core is an awesome game and fills tons of gaps. It also opens the door for a possible sequel to VII rather than a remake. I would personally rather see a sequel that picks up after Genesis is reborn at the end of Dirge of Cerberus.

Crisis core didn't exactly blow off the doors in sales. Most people who are begging for a VII remake didn't even touch Crisis Core. They probably just watched the cut scenes on youtube. People say the FFVII name is a license to print money....but.... It's hard for SE to justify the remake when Crisis Core struggled to push 2MM units.

There are a ton of scenes in VII that would be cut in a remake that just wouldn't work. The entire Wall Market section would be cut. All of the awkward gender bending scenes would be cut...basically a lot of the stuff that gave the game personality. I vote, sequel. VII has way too much personality to be altered.

Sony better be smart and make a move to secure some sort of exclusive agreement deal before Balmer shows up at SquarEnix's doorstep on a Hardy Daytona with bags of money that say "Gil" on them, dressed up in a Cloud Cosplay winking at them like he's sayin "Yea you know what we want!" Oh god thats just what we need, a fat, sweaty Cloud almost in a asthmatic state with a giant sweat spot on his back. And all in sub-HD too! I guess that'd be the only redeeming factor in that case.
