While some PS3s have been unable to play games and login to the PlayStation Network, other consoles haven't experienced any problems. The question is, what really is going on?"

Here, I'm sure many of you all will need this:

Just as much as you need this : http://dictionary.reference... on subject : the article is a good read.

blitz06235935d ago (Edited 5935d ago )

Epic fail by the engineers. Can't believe this got by testing and stuff. Sony has until March 1 2014 to fix this if this doesn't get resolved soon.

JasonXE5935d ago

Don't get mad at him because you probably needed to click that link. You'd be surprised at the IQ of many members on this site.

Immortal Kaim5935d ago

This may well be the biggest problem the PS3 has ever faced, the mainstream media are having a field day with this...I really hope it's sorted before FFXIII comes out...

5935d ago
Shadow Flare5935d ago

thanks PSLS, that cleared it up fully

Dev8 ing5935d ago

Where were the amazing 360 testers for Gears 2?

ArmrdChaos5935d ago

Well..at least that makes sense as to why it started all of sudden. Microsoft struggles with hardware while Sony struggles with software. Too bad they couldn't get together on a project...would be curious to see how that would turn out.

Danteh5935d ago

So in 4 years, the 1st of March 2014, we will have this problem again, but since the ps3 will have sales of around 120 milion and a brutal 60 milion lead from the 360, Skynet will take over and the world will end.

...but wait the world already ends in 2012, damn :(

SeanRL5935d ago

Lol, seriously though. This is getting way to much coverage in my opinion. It will be fixed soon enough and go back to normal. Until then, put some real news up.

rambi805935d ago (Edited 5935d ago )

MS aint much better

http://gizmodo.com/5121822/...

But feel free to continue with whatever reality you have selected

@Danteh - At least you can be confident that your ps3 will last that long - thats like 12 RRODs!!

i friend of mine ps3 fat is now working after he got home from work, despite no update or anything, and he was affected by the glitch or whatever yesterday/last night, however my 60 gig launch is still a no show to psn ;(

TheBand1t5935d ago (Edited 5935d ago )

I know, it's like another Reese's incident just waiting to unfold.

OtherWhiteMeat5935d ago (Edited 5935d ago )

I'm sure you had to click twice.

sikbeta5935d ago

Good Article, we can safely say that explain WTH is Going On:

"·What’s causing the problem?

The system clock thinks that today is a leap year dated February 29th, 2010. Meanwhile, the OS Clock doesn’t have that date available in its table since it doesn’t exist. What we have are two very conflicting dates which have caused the PlayStation 3 to change behavior. It’s hard to tell exactly why the date on many PS3s has been rolled back to 1999, but it could be a protocol set in place by Sony for situations like this.

·Why does the system clock think it’s leap year?

Apparently, the older PlayStation 3s have been programmed to think that every even year is a leap year. You might be asking, “Well, why didn’t PS3 consoles face this issue in 2008 then?”. The answer is, because 2008 WAS a leap year. This is an unfortunate set of circumstances, because in reality leap year is every four years, but the console thinks that it is every two" -»[?]

Lets wait For the 12:00PM/0:00AM [GMT 0] London Time...

Gamers FTW!!!

ikkeweer5935d ago

INXS taught me that word years ago, but I guess it could be usefull to some

raztad5935d ago (Edited 5935d ago )

If this bug is about clocks and dates, I can tell I'm really lucky. My PS3 fat has the proper date set: 3/1/2010. No problems here so far, offline or online.

DaTruth5934d ago (Edited 5934d ago )

This problem probably won't sort itself out in 3 hours. The hardware clock battery will think it is March 1st when it will really be March 2nd.

The only way I can see this working is if there is a software clock in the firmware that couldn't set to Feb 29th 2010. So when there is a date like March 1st that the firmware clock can read it might function properly, but PSN will still say March 2nd when the PS3 says March 1st and the online 8001050F error will still be live; But at least the Ps3 will still function offline!

Lol @ Bungie backwards (Eignub)! I never even caught that part of it. I'm LMAO all over again! You guys really need to pick up on this!

darthv725934d ago (Edited 5934d ago )

Y2K 4 PS3

LOL

Let's get it all pushed out of shape...it shouldnt be that hard to code a date/time patch for the hardware clock. Just getting it installed over PSN might poses a problem if you can't connect. I am betting it will get resolved tomorrow with a patch and then we can adjust the time/date accordingly.

ikkeweer5934d ago

I'm pretty sure Sony will have tested if this works by now.
They better have, I wanna play in the rain a little today b4 i shoot Raz on MAG (15 more levels of SVER b4 I switch to RAVE)

reaferfore205934d ago

Already fixed for me, wasn't working an hour ago and logged in automatically when I turned my system on. Hopefully everyone else's PSN is online now as well!

DaTruth5934d ago (Edited 5934d ago )

Well, I guess fixing the PSN side of things is the easy part! But I'm still quite impressed with myself for figuring out the problem on my own!

Guess I won't be needing Blaze929's dictionary!

Now can somebody tell me what time exactly 12:00am GMT is in EST time. I'm pretty sure it's 5 hours, but I won't risk my PS3 info on it. If so I should be good in 7 minutes!

ikkeweer5934d ago (Edited 5934d ago )

It has the 01-03-10 date though.

EDIT, time is correct, but it's 2-3-10 here

Redempteur5934d ago

it's working fine now ..

update your time via internet or manually and it should be fine ...

DaTruth5934d ago

Just turned on my PS3 and it was set to Feb 28 2010 7:10pmEST. Updated via internet and now is reading March 1 2010 7:10EST.

dalibor5934d ago

Just got my Ps3 to work finally. I just checked my date and it's way ahead of yours. It reads 4/29/2020 3:53pm. I bet other people have different times compared to ours. What a crazy ordeal though. It fixed itself, the Ps3 can in fact do everything lol.

Pika-pie5934d ago

Thank you playstationlifestyle. This is the most sensible article ive read on the subject inthe past 24 hours.

Im sure people arnt going to let Sony forget this anytime soon. Im guessing they will want this whole thing to blow over quickly. Although its not like the 360 hasnt had its share of far worse problems.

Sony should build back its goodwill and say sorry by offering a PSN game for free download for a day. That would be cool.

Coffin875934d ago

I'm pretty sure they'll fix it without any bigger notice in the next system patch.. I mean, upgrading the clock structure can't be THAT big of a deal. This should go by relatively unnoticed.

darthv725934d ago

Date read as 3/1/2010 with the correct time. I just set the date/time via internet and it shows correct. This will happen again in a few years unless there is a fw update to bypass the hard programming of the RTC.

Not much different than back in 2000 when PC's had their RTC with only a two digit year code. It took a combination of bios updates and software patching the OS to make it work. PS3 will get a fw update to fix the older units at some point.

Crappy no-name sites tend to die easily. Which is good.

TheDeadMetalhead5935d ago

Me three.

(80GB fat PS3 here, btw)

dalibor5934d ago (Edited 5934d ago )

Was able to get mine to work. 60gig here. The thing is I changed the clock to 3/1/2010 manually upon reading the problem hoping it would somehow work. Then I left it alone since it did not work. Then just 10min ago I was able to get to the Psn. But my time changed 10 years ahead to 2020 lol. I don't know if I should change it haha now that it works.

Look I know VIII has its issues and all that but how on earth can the do big anniversary events with new artwork and merchandise for VII, IX and X yet VIII got sweet f*** all.

They could have given it something during its 25th anniversary yet all it got was a single Happy Anniversary post on their social media.

solideagle32d ago

they should know that we are OG fans of VIII as it sold truckload as well. not as much as VII or X. I personally didn't like IX but X and VI are my personal fav.

Shadow Hearts 2 covenant is another game I love. I hope one day someone can make remake, I would be delighted

Final Fantasy VIII is great and you are always the first to defend it in the comments

Underrated comment. I used to hate that game so much that any time my siblings asked me to play it, I just picked Hom and shut myself down mid-match.

PlayStation legend Shuhei Yoshida says Jim Ryan fired him because he didn't listen to him

Why did Sony push Shuhei Yoshida out of his role leading PlayStation's first-party games? He'd overseen some huge successes. Well, apparently, he didn't listen.

Relientk7740d ago

Yeah I can see that for sure. Shuhei Yoshida should have been in charge not Jim Ryan.

Cacabunga40d ago

It should be free highway for him now.. but Sony are too stupid to see this, especially that moron Hulst

S2Killinit40d ago (Edited 40d ago )

Wtf why all that anger. PlayStation is dominating on every level. Besides I think there is a little more to hiring a CEO than just who is available. Its not like its a athlete your team wants to buy.

neutralgamer199240d ago

S2Killinit

live service failures, chasing trends, closing studios. yes dominating

Cacabunga40d ago

Sony is Dominating because competition is not existing. Compared to previous gens this is the poorest in terms of software offerings.

Last gen we got Uncharted 4 Lost Legacy and TLOU2 from ND alone.

This is so far a remasters gen, with no competition to lift up the quality

1nsomniac40d ago (Edited 40d ago )

..."PlayStation is dominating on every level"....

...Really???

PlayStation are soon heading into a new generation in the not to distant future. They currently have the worst customer satisfaction they've ever sustained as a company. The company is heading for a huge crash while at the same time they'll need to be planning how they are going to try and win back that favour and the build up to their new releases.

Yes financially they're winning but they're going to have to ride out this complete public corporate disaster. No one has faith in the company or the product anymore. They've damaged their public image so much this generation. Greed can kill anyone.

medman39d ago

Hulst is a disaster......

blacktiger40d ago

He would've done the same thing and fire Jim Ryan and Shuhei would be the villain. Why?
Because Elite creates the narrative and distraction for gamers, users and citizens.

Outside_ofthe_Box40d ago

More confirmation that Jim Ryan is the culprit for what has happened to Sony. Hulst needs to go too. What sucks is that a lot of the good top heads at Sony are no longer there. I wish that guys that were forced out prematurely by Dumbo Jimbo like Shuhei and Layden came back.

robtion39d ago

Yep. Yoshida was responsible for bringing one of the best games of this generation to playstation (Stellar Blade). He is an actual gamer and is in touch with what gamers want (creative, fun games, not GaaS and agenda pushing). He also seems like a genuinely nice guy if you watch some interviews. Of course they got rid of him.

darthv7240d ago

Makes you wonder if MS even thought about hiring him after Phil and Sarah were leaving. He certainly couldn't make their situation any worse.

Agent7540d ago

Microflop. After Windows XP and Xbox 360, it all went floppy.

S2Killinit40d ago

Floppy 😆
No pun intended

badz14940d ago

Yoshida for President! Jim Ryan was and always be a hack! Sony should get Shu back

Lightning7740d ago

All the gamer/consumer lead heads are gone across PS and Xbox. shuhei gone phil's gone (questionable) but gone. The future of gaming is somewhat uncertain across the board.
