[Update] Heavy Rain is Buggy, Patch Doesn't Seem to fix Problems

VGChartz: If you got Heavy Rain recently, you may or may not have experienced various game glitches, the amount of them being reported on the web is big enough to warrant an article for itself, the most notable of them so far being audio dropouts and game freezes.

[Update]

VGChartz's reviewer, who played the release version of the game the week before launch, says the problems didn't exist at all before the patch, but are now present after the patch. We, at VGChartz, believe that this may mean the patch is the actual cause of the problems, rather than a solution to it. We suggest you do not patch the game at all if possible, and if you already have and are experiencing the problem we suggest you uninstall and reinstall without the patch.

the only problem i experienced was a few audio drops near the end of the game but that was about it, anyway if you are having problems just delete it off the hdd and re install and don't download the patch

Brazil5923d ago

I've played this game twice now and haven't had any performance issues.

Elimin85923d ago (Edited 5923d ago )

It's the same thing. I know, I have the game and have encountered my fair share of probs.. When I first inserted the disk and started the game it said error. I restarted my PS3 then started it again then it prompted for update. like I said the patch is not the prob. it has to do with the system "or not", not that it is broken but possibly something to do with code or some sought. I have 320G Slim PS3. it also hangs at a blank screen indefinitely...

My 2cents..

Darkfocus5923d ago (Edited 5923d ago )

ya I just beat the whole game in one sitting yesterday and didn't notice any problems except for minor audio drops during the killers apartment scene

edit:@Elimin8 is your HD speed the same as a stock ps3 HD?

Bigpappy5923d ago (Edited 5923d ago )

You mean to tell me the developers are releasing patches for the game and there are no issues with it? Or maybe the norm for some of you is to see people walking through tables and they lips moving but nothing coming out. But then again we are talking about people who prefer to watch interactive QTE over using their console to play games. No wonder PS3 game don't chart.

The strange thing is. . . I still care more about Heavy Rain than any game I have played in a long while. Yes, glitches happen. Yes, the audio drops out at random for very short periods of time. Yes, the experience is interrupted once in a while. Yet, somehow, the game is as incredible an experience as you will find in ANY genre of ANYTHING meant to entertain.
It would be nice if these problems could be fixed though. I mean, the chick walked directly through 2 tables in the middle of my conversation with Ethan. WTF?

DevilsJoker5923d ago

In my playthrough it froze 3 times within the first 4 hours requiring turning the whole thing off and on again, and the audio dropped out a fair bit and sometimes random people would walk right through the major characters in crowd cutscenes.

But apart from a slight Immersion breaking Chuckle every now and then it didn't ruin the experience, after the first few hours it stopped crashing and hasn't crashed again on my other playthroughs.

I'd quite like a patch so my housemates won't get frustrated when my inevitably get curious and play through it. But it didn't do too much harm to the experience for me.

DavidMacDougall5923d ago

It froze once and i had audio problems in the first chapter and thats it, i'm near the end of my second play through.

jamesgtaiv5923d ago

I had 2 problems. I left it on pause for about 20 minutes and when i came back i got frame drops and slow downs. Then playing as the detective with the chick I had staticky audio. Turning off the ps3 and turning it on again seemed to fix the two issues though. Either way I love this game. So awesome!

So far here's the few I've had and I'm still playing the main story:

Twice I had to restart the game because of no options to do anything just walk around (different areas of the game)

When someone talks and the next person had to talk seems like they get cut off

Some QTE's didn't register 100% which I lost 3 trophies over

Some trophies wouldn't load up unless I quit the game then start from the beginning of the next chapter

One part of the game that requires slow movement the game didn't register the next direction for a while

While going into a new chapter the game completely locked up, had to restart the ps3 entirely

Those so far is what I've experienced, and the game is very addicting story wise - I'd have to say hands down best story in any game I've ever played. Definitely planning a second play through after I beat the game first time. Yes it may seem I'm one of the few with a lot of problems however it's game #3 I'm keeping permanently. And if anyone wonders I'm on the 120 GB Slim PS3 if that may make any difference.

(By the way yes I did try my hardest not to give away any spoilers)

I had sound cutting in and out and I once glitched my way underground.

Never would have expected those kinds of bugs to present on a console tbh. I mean seriously it's not like they have to take into consideration thousands of different hardware configurations like pc dev's.

Rushed release imo.

Elimin85922d ago

I should hope so. I have a Sony Bravia XBR9 32" and a high speed HDMI cable.

And this is no joke, this f^cking game froze while it was saving....it FROZE WHILE SAVING! I hard to hard boot my dam ps3, and when i loaded up my save(killers house) ******MINOR SPOILERS!!!!!!!!******** when im in the locked room with madison i take one step and it froze on me! I had to hard boot again, i did it 3 times, and it froze on me 3 times i a row just on that part, every time i took one step. So i uninstalled the game, patch, and deleted my save data..I'm done with HR..i can't afford to have my ps3 brick over heavy rain..

And i'm not even going to continue about the bugs this game has...lets just say, for the perfect crime trophy, i played the game three dam times, did all the credentials, and got the right ending for the trophy but never got it!! HR, is a dam good game, but supremely buggy. I could of been had my plat 4 days ago but then crap like this happens. As i love HR, I'm supremely disappointed in it. For now on my ps3 will never play HR...just can't afford any malfunctions with my ps3.

not had any problems and 4 friends that bought the game only one had audio problem near the end of the game. But this is one of the best ps3 games i cant really decide if uncharted 2 is better but i dont think ever re played a game straight after completing it maybe like couple of weeks or months after. ps3 owers BUY IT you will not regret !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!

GrandDragon5923d ago

AS I said before QD don't know how to use the PS3 hence why their game is buggy.

GOW3 is where it's at!

Parapraxis5923d ago (Edited 5923d ago )

"QD don't know how to use the PS3 "
Fail post of the day goes to ..... *dun* *dun* GrandDragon!

n4gn4gn4gn4g5923d ago (Edited 5923d ago )

but even the demo is buggy...phantom glasses floating through air, hands disappearing and reappearing, game ending freeze when exiting crime scene.

I REALLY want to like this game but I don't want to be frustrated by poor coding.

Edit: N4G seems just as buggy though...phantom disagrees for stating my experience. FCK YOU.

darkequitus5923d ago

Yes it was bit of a glitch fest. However, it did not stop me from finishing and enjoying a game. I personally gave it 9/10

My glitches:
1. The FBI agent first crime scene and junk yard level froze but the sound continued.
2. The playground scene froze.
3. Arrows were missing on a Shelby (visitor to app.) and Ethan level (power plant) so I could not progress.
4. The end credits were a bit of a jerk fest.
5. Screen tear much?
6. And the odd audio glitch.

Please stop comparing video games to movies

"Many video games catch not only great commercial attention but remarkable critical attention as well. We have seen games like Heavy Rain, The Last of Us Part II, and even entries in the Metal Gear series described as fantastic interactive experiences, even heralded in the same way as Hollywood's greatest films.

I would suggest that not only is this an unfair comparison but also a harmful one. Video games, by their very nature, are an intricately different medium and should be weighed against one another rather than another form of media," Phillip writes for GF365.

Yes, please stop. They're better than most hollywood drivel nowadays.

BLAKHOODe2010d ago

I think Hollywood films will becoming increasingly more like video games in the future, especially as the world embraces the "new normal" from the pandemic. It makes sense, as games like Spider-Man: Miles Morales showcase just how realistically we're reaching in graphical capabilities, as well as showcase extreme action sequences in spectacular ways. And as time goes by, it'll get easier and cheaper to produce such "art", as well as create new star "actors" that never age, never die, never complain, never gets involved in scandals, etc. Technology is amazing and we're only just getting a taste of what it'll eventually be.

sourOG2010d ago

No. Some games are like movies.

medman2009d ago (Edited 2009d ago )

No. For the money spent, a quality game provides far more entertainment value than a quality movie. Especially when looking at what is going on in the world, and how a studio can attempt to pilfer from consumers by charging 30 dollars for Mulan via streaming. Ridiculous. There is no comparison....games all day.
