One of the collection of shops that totally rips gamers off.. All i can say is that I will not miss this shop even if it closes every one of its outlets.
A prime example- new game @ £37 in every other retailer Game will charge £44 and then have the cheek to charge £39 for a preowned copy.
Goodbye and good riddance

its happening because they now own gamestation mate and they are finally converting all the gamestation shops into GAME shops. So of course ones right near each other will be shut down as there is no point to having 2 GAME shops right next to each other is there? On the bright side this is brilliant for the consumer as it means they will have a LOT of excess stock from these stores so you will see a lot of extremely cheap games over the coming months.

that would make sense since there is a Gamestation 2mins down the road from Game in my town. Gamestation was always the better shop for value but I still can't remember the last time I bought a game from a high street store. Game has always been total rip-off sometimes charging more for a used game than online retailers charge for a new one. They also employ people who know nothing about games.

They had game shops in really stupid areas. In Harrow (London) there are two game stores about 400m away from one another, same goes with Brent Cross. Closing them down wouldn't really hurt many consumers.

It's a shame those 247 staff members are gonna lose their jobs.

Edit: Btw, they aren't converting their shops :

"The two separate brands will be retained, meaning Gamestation stores will keep their name. Gamestation will also continue to focus on its existing customer base, which consists primarily of preowned purchasers and male games enthusiasts. "

Game have owned Gamestation since 2007, I dont think thats the reason somehow.

Spiderman5934d ago

Its the same in Bristol. In the town centre Game have 3 shops located about a 1 minute walk from each other. Theres no need. Plus like you said. Why buy games from Game when they charge over £40...Supermarkets and Online shopping are the only to buy games an sensible prices.

Wonder if my GAME will close- it took over from an Our price when they went under. No gamestation here, so i wonder if they will pull the plug and leave us with no dedicated videogame stores. TBH i cant say i have bought anything from the store for years, practically every game i now buy online because their prices are always far more expensive, and i have found i typically get a game a couple days early too as well as saving money.

It doesnt help that the staff were completely unhelpful and useless too in my store, i had been told just after 360 launch that it will die as soon as Ps3 comes out by the manager! lol Catching them talking nonsense to mums looking for games, or other unfortunate customers- i have intervened more than once and corrected their silly claims.

supermarkets are killing them,example 250gb ps3 with extra controller,sony,s a ucd2 for 282 quid.bargain

their prices are quite high compared to other retailers. Even if you factor in the rewards scheme they still are quite expensive.

I prefer CEX. Reasonable trade=ins nice big varied collection even PC games. That's right PC pre-owned from what I gather that's pretty rare. Also your not limited to just games... you can trade in a game get store credit and buy consoles, DVD's anything.

Game kinda sucks but it sucks more for the people who lost their jobs. It isn't their fault.

Cajun Chicken5934d ago

S**t. That's mental. I was wondering about trying to force my CV through my local Game.

Cajun Chicken5934d ago

Hey, I need a part time job and I wanted to work for Game because I felt it would apply my expertise of video games, got a problem with that?

"Be creative 99% of the time" – Glen Schofield on how creativity can help fix AAA industry woes

The Callisto Protocol director thinks the solution involves the right people, the right timing, and perhaps a little bit of AI

I don't agree with that. I WISH I could agree with that. But buying habits and customer opinions prove otherwise

We've seen developers in the AAA space try new things and ideas. More often than not, the customers aren't willing to give things a chance, or not enough people buy into the project for it to grow.

Creativity works better in the indie space because the budgets, pressures, and expectations aren't the same.

Scissorman39d ago

it's a nice idea and it worked during the PS2/PS3-era when AAA didn't cost hundreds of millions of dollars. smaller budgets and shorter development time left room for more creativity and more risk. a game didn't need to sell 4 million+ copies to break even. things are different now.

This is the guy who bragged about crunching his staff and having them work through the night. Crunch culture has lost more talent and done more damage to the industry than any other factor. Screw him.
