THQ has announced the PC hardware requirements for Metro 2033.

The publisher outlines the minimum, recommended and optimum spec for the highly-anticipated post-apocalyptic shooter. The specs also detail what you'll need to play the game in 3D.

Ye gods. Those recommended specs are high enough, but the optimum...

AndyA5936d ago

Oof. I remember now why I quit the PC hardware rat race. Wonder what the 360 version will look like then? It's presumably going to take a bit of a visual hit.

Fyzzu5936d ago

I hadn't even thought of that. Considering that the optimum specs are talking about cards that, as far as I know, aren't actually *out* yet...

It'll have been designed for the 360 architecture, but there's only so much you can do along those lines.

ProjectVulcan5936d ago (Edited 5936d ago )

You have to assume these specs especially minimum are overstated...i mean....8800GT is only two years old and if you set everything to minimum and run a low resolution, you honestly telling me the game will only just about run?? That is extremely excessive. Personally i think the most oldest minimum should be is three years old. Problem is, GT220 is nothing like as fast as an 8800GT. So what are they saying, are they giving those as example of the type of cards or what? I hate it when a developer gives such generalised specifications for video cards as they are wildly different, but THE most important piece of hardware for games!

If 360 has a version here running 1280 x 720 then how on earth could it require an 8800GT to match that sort of fidelity? 8800GT is easily twice as fast and more than xenos, and any core 2 duo is going to be a lot faster than 360's CPU. I am highly doubtful those minimums are very realistic or these specs are very accurate, because if they are, this is going to be a terribly optimised game.

No, no. I dont believe that they really mean it mentioning 8800GT in the same breath as a GT220. Optimum specs are obviously going to be high end DX11 hardware, because they are the only cards that can make use of the DX11 features.

snake_eater5936d ago

This is yet another poorly optimized pc game...

PinkUni5936d ago

to the point where if you can hardly run it, all you're looking at is stick figures lol

that would be great...

JsonHenry5936d ago

I have everything BUT the Nvidia 400 series card.. however I think my HD5870 will play it just fine.

TheIneffableBob5936d ago

Optimum means "this is the best the game can look."

That means high resolution, high amounts of anit-aliasing, settings to the max, and DirectX 11. I don't know where some of you guys are getting unoptimized from. Also, there will be PhysX effects like destructible environments which the Fermi cards should be able to run like butter.

Upbeat5936d ago

so a metro game is going to take more to run smothly than crysis. good god

Pandamobile5936d ago

The "Optimum" settings would be more than enough to run the game at like 7560 x 1080 maxxed out at 60+ FPS. It's more than enough for this game, lol.

Oh my god... that's me out then :-/

jakethesnake5936d ago

Me too.. My computer isn't amazing, but it can handle everything I throw at it with ease if I balance the graphics settings right. Are they really telling me that this game will be so intensive that it'll be the first game that my computer can't run? Either these specs are wrong or this game is horribly inefficient.

Leord5936d ago

I'm glad I recently bought a new gaming PC :)

Fyzzu5936d ago

And yet your new gaming PC still won't match the optimum specs, as some of those components aren't out yet.

champ215936d ago

niether does the xbox whats your point?

MerkinMax5936d ago

I meet all the optimum except graphics and ram. Planning on getting a DX11 card in the near future so I'll be set.

Qdog5936d ago (Edited 5936d ago )

MSI Big Bang Trinergy
Intel Core i7 860 @4.15 ghz
8gb Corsair XMS3 DDR3 1600
Two 1tb 7200rpm drives in RAID0
Two overclocked GTX260s in SLI plus a 9800gt 1gb(OC) for physx(x16,x8,x8)thats 544 gpu processor cores
1000w quad SLI Certified PSU
Windows 7 64-bit

So if I have any problems with running this game, I'll know that it's very poor optimization. I get a steady 45-58fps in Crysis, maxed out 4xMSAA, 1920*1080(DX10). Previously with the cpu @ 3.8ghz and two 9800gt 1gb in SLI I got 22,655 in 3DMark06.

Qdog5936d ago (Edited 5936d ago )

If you want, I have no problem with posting pics and synthetic benchmark results. In fact here is my ORB verified 3DMark06 score before I upgraded(mobo, HDD, and videocards) yesterday. http://service.futuremark.c... . I also run The Witcher:Enhanced Edition, and Gothic 3(extremely un-optimized code) at max with way over 60fps at 1920*1080, so if I have problems with Metro 2033, then I can very easily guess what the problem is. I get such a kick out of people with so little respect for themselves, that they disagree without stating any reasons.

Qdog5922d ago (Edited 5922d ago )

Apparently I lied to you. According to the Crysis Benchmark utility, I average 62 frames per second with my setup. DX10, 4xAA, High settings, 1920x1080. So, if I have problems with DX10 mode, I know what it will be. Both of these GTX260s in SLI are overclocked, and my i7 860 can hit 4.21ghz stable, but I usually use 4.15ghz for gaming and benching. I can provide proof to anyone of all of this. My score for 3dMark06 with my old motherboard was 26,616 http://service.futuremark.c... , and I havent benched the new mobo with the extra 9800GT 1gb OC yet.

Makes me wonder what the Crysis 2 specs are going to be.

hoops5936d ago

High Specs for full running of this game.
My two 5970's should handle this sucker just fine in eyefinity

Metro Video Game Series: A Comprehensive History

The Metro video game series started with a humble b-list title, before building a strong fanbase and becoming a pioneer in the industry.

TheBrainZ841d ago

Never got into Exodus, but 2033 was excellent.

kevco33841d ago

Yeah, Exodus just didn't grab me either, sadly.

I absolutely loved 2033 and Last Light, however. Played them both on 360 and then again with the remasters!

anast840d ago

I just started it and it is already miles better than the first 2 which are dated.
