Looks fantastic. I want to see some gameplay vids. The game has awesome potential.

Valay5940d ago

Now we just need new footage!

I gotta say I'm impressed... And VERY confused... there are FPS parts mixed with Third Person Action? That should be... cool!! Different... I like that!

SpoonyRedMage5940d ago

You can freely switch between side scrolling 2D and FPS apparently.

EvilTwin5940d ago

I am TOTALLY confused, too.

Screen caps like these:

Suggest it's not just a straight 2D plane you're able to move on.

...but the Nintendo release about this game's controls says:

"The game looks at the classic franchise from a new perspective: While much of the game is reminiscent of 2-D side-scrollers, players can switch the perspective into 3-D at any time as they explore the twisting passages of a derelict space station and delve deep into a cinematic, never-before-told story of bounty hunter Samus Aran’s past. This new approach uses a new control scheme in which players use the Wii Remote™ controller held sideways to battle enemies and navigate the expansive, gorgeous environments in classic Metroid fashion, then aim at the screen with the Wii Remote pointer to blast foes in first-person and hunt the world for clues and hidden passages."

No nunchuck?

So you can't move around in first-person? It's just for ranged attacks? Or can you move with the D-pad, which could be clunky?

The more we learn about this game, the more mysterious it becomes.

I want to read some hands-on impressions tonight.

tunaks15940d ago

I really hope there is a nunchuk option.

EvilTwin5940d ago

tunaks1 -- I won't lie, I'm very anxious (bordering on nervous) to see what the hands-on impressions of this game are. Seems there's an embargo on info till 9 Pacific (midnight EST).

Reggie wasn't kidding when he said this would be old school.

ozstar5940d ago

Games like Disaster DOC did this same kind of thing.

Having seperate game styles ultimately mixes it up and gives you much more variety.

If i could only pick one I'd go with super metroid.

Best (for me) would be the first Metroid Prime. It was simply amazing the first time i played it. so deep and challenging while also turning the series completely into something that felt new and fresh.

Worst (for me) is most likely Other M. I can appreciate what they were trying to go for but it just felt flat and played out.

Looking at the rest of the list, I never played Federation Force but i have played the rest. Pinball is still one of my favorites to play now and then.

Ranking the Metroid Games from Worst to Best

From Xfire: "Is Super Metroid still as super as it once was in 1994? If not, which Metroid game is better than the influential title?"

Highrevz1803d ago

I look forward to the day any game beats that Super, Metroid or not.
Hollow Knight come damn near close to knocking Super Metroid from the top of my list, that’s a huge achievement for such a small team.

The problem for me is I’ve been waiting for a 2D Metroid that beats Super but I don’t think I’ll ever see that day. I still play the original 1-2 times a year and a few randomiser plays.

Fully agree with the list and all points it makes for each game. I’m expecting Dread to fit in the middle of that list but I’m happy to be wrong about that.

In my opinion Other M is better than Federation Force

Neocrisis - It seems that the ship in this years "The Predator" movie has taken some inspiration from Metroid. To be more specific, the ship shown in "The Predator" teaser trailer looks similar to Samus Aran's Gunship.
