Ubisoft: Red Steel 2 not going multi-platform

Red Steel 2 creative director Jason Vandenberghe has told VideoGamer.com that despite the scheduled holiday 2010 arrival of motion controller technology for both Xbox 360 and PS3, motion-based action sequel Red Steel 2 will remain a Wii exclusive.

I like how this article was ignored....

not that I'd be surprised if it went multiplatform.

EvilTwin5931d ago

They've spent a good long time trying to nail Motion Plus; it may be a bit of a hassle to try to port it over. Vandenberghe said Natal would be problematic (unless there's a controller with a thumbstick option), and near 1:1 fidelity with Sony's wand may be difficult, too (just look how long it has taken devs to really GET Nintendo's motion controls).

dgroundwater5930d ago

Perhaps in the distant future it will go onto PS3 or something. Not anytime soon, and only if it does pretty well.

sinncross5930d ago (Edited 5930d ago )

Sorry?

The only difficult part of porting Red Stell 2 to the PS3 would be in coding for a completely diffeent system (which should not be a problem by now).

I highly doubt that moving controls to the PS3 Arc will be that much of a hassle.

That said I don't think a PS3 version will happen anytime soon but I think it may happen with at least future iterations of the series.

FinalomegaS5930d ago

how are you so sure it won't be difficult unless... the arc is that much of a wii clone. Then sure, will be a breeze to port but coding is least of their problems.

At least get the dam thing out the door before people start with the , "so will you be porting this over", fine way to kill your sales ( aka RE4 for GCN.

as if the wii isn't allowed to have a good exclusive, heaven forbid it does then people want it ported to the HD systems...

mastiffchild5930d ago

Spoons-if a Wii thread isn't doom and gloom for Ninty or a SMG2 or a new Zelda story it NEVER gets any passing traffic round here, does it?

Well, anyway, as for Ubi saying this:I think it's a lot more likely to go multi than other titles people think are certs to like SC:C. All that matters is how it sells, imo, and if it doesn't do similar numbers to the first game expect them to weigh up the cost of a PS3 port AT THE VERY least.Cost will dictate what they do and if other Wii to PS3 ports sell okay I wouldn't take this as such a firm "no" but obviously a LOT has tp happen before they'd commit to anything of the kind.

SpoonyRedMage5930d ago

The sad thing really is that the sales don't matter at all, look at De Blob. The first one was a big hit, last update was 2008 at 800K(probably at a mil, or close), it outsold Ratchet and Banjo and yet De Blob 2 is multiplatform which will most likely damage the sales of the Wii version(as it will probably be crap) and I'm not exactly sure it'll sell gangbusters on the HD systems.

The success of the game is ultimately in Ubisoft's games though, if they support it properly it should do well. Will they support it properly? probably not.

EvilTwin5930d ago (Edited 5930d ago )

sinncross -- Sure, it could be quite different. If the Sony wand uses the Eye camera to track its position, you're talking a bit of a different ball game because you're bringing in the refresh rate of a camera.

One of the reasons Nintendo passed up Natal-esque motion control? Latency from using a camera.

RS2's gameplay is pretty darn quick. The Wand hasn't even been released with its first gen launch titles to test its capabilities and let devs figure it out. Meanwhile, M+ is a pretty simple add-on to tech that has existed since the Wii launch, and Ubi is just NOW getting a firm grasp on it.

I'm not saying it can't be done. I just wouldn't hold my breath on it quite yet. Vandenberghe says as much in a few interviews about the difficulty of doing this game; it wasn't easy. That's why we see Ubi saying RS2 will stay Wii-exclusive. Now if it performs well, I'd be shocked if it didn't go multi-plat for RS3 with a little more time to work on the Wand.

wow its a ghost zone here,
people are talking about how nintendo is loosing games and how RS2 would be better on the PS3,
they probably should read this article.

Silly gameAr5930d ago

Yeah. Even though I haven't seen many PS3 owners going crazy for a port, those people that are should probably buy a Wii for Wii games and A PS3 for PS3 games.

It's only logical.

Seekerofthewind5930d ago

*nodnod*Every time I hear something from Vandenberghe, it's almost always something that I can't disagree with. It's also obvious how much passion he has for this game. Developers that put as much heart and soul into their games as he seems to deserve success.

na-no-nai5930d ago

good cuz now other people can cry their tears out lol.
im getting this one. i love the first one and cant wait for this to come out

Silly gameAr5930d ago

You're either really threatened by the PS3 (who would be afraid of a hunk of plastic that plays games??!!) or you have no life outside of N4G or your beloved 360.

Either way, get help.

dkgshiz5930d ago

No one was expecting or wanted Red Steel 2...

Luigis Mansion 3 doesn’t really belong in that list because the first game was great and it’s sequels didn’t really redefine the series.
