What's wrong with the Uncharted 2 Update

We all know about the Uncharted 2 Update (v1.05) but does it hurt or help the Uncharted 2 gamers and Naughty Dog itself?

Im surprised so many people are hating it, I think its great.

SnuggleBandit5939d ago

i hate the new aiming thing...thats really the only thing i would change back

Talking about the reduction of damage.

The game's been out for a while and everybody got used to the damage. Then, once that happens, they completely screw the veteran gamers and pretty much make it much easier to kill people. Not only does it make the game much faster paced but it also takes away the strategy and tactical gameplay. You can no longer run to cover and plan a move, if you get shot u are likely dead. It also makes it impossible in Plunder matches where you want to throw the treasure if you know u will die.

Then there are the snipers that 1HK now...

Anyways, they HAVE a crushing (hardcore) mode that players can play in private settings-- I don't get why they just didn't add a crushing mode to the public playlists. It's like making every COD mode have the hardcore damage settings. I am honesty dumbfounded with this decision.

ND is great and UC2 is a great SP game, and I appreciate that they are listening to us, but this was a bad, bad, move and was very poorly timed. The MP is fun, but it also shows that ND needs some help with making a properly structured MP game. The quitting, the punishment system (even when you don't mean to quit), etc. lead to players getting very frustrated. I understand that they are trying to please everybody, but it's impossible to do. Sometimes you need to NOT listen to the community, especially when the changes come so late into the life of the game.

Anyways, I honestly feel for the people that have gotten used to the game because now everything feels different. The damage was perfect the way it was but with reduced health/increased damage it also screws with the gun balancing.

Overall I think they've done great patching this game: the free map is nice, they added clan tags, leaderboards, a cinema mode which I absolutely love, etc. but they are having problems with trying to sort out quitting, damage, etc. Hopefully they can find peace with this already.

What new aiming thing?

SnuggleBandit5939d ago

like when you aim around a corner or something it automatically switches to the other side ya know what i mean? (normally happens when you press r3)

am i just imagining things...or did i mess with some settings by accident?? cuz i don't remember this auto-switching thing that keeps happening to me.

rroded5939d ago

only six shots bites n they already said it was a mistake so wth why didnt they fix it?

andrewf915939d ago

I've noticed that and it's been a huge pain when that happens for no reason.

shadow27975939d ago

I played it right after the update after not playing for a month or so and I didn't really notice any difference in the damage.

Everyone still seems like a bullet sponge to me.

Though I never use the AK47, so that may be why I didn't notice anything.

Method5939d ago

They've basically turned it into the horrible "whoever sees the other person first wins" system that Modern Warfare 2 uses. This is the first time I've ever been disappointed by Naughty Dog. What were they thinking?

UnSelf5938d ago

all i have to say is i wasnt playin the MP that much b4 the patch. When i did i was still doin good.

After the patch i jumped in and am still doin as good. Whatever the patch changed is effing wonderful and ND are gods for doin such a thing.

I see absolutely nothing wrong with the changes they made, and its nothinnnnnnnnnnn like what u ppl are describing.

the little i do remember form pre-patch times, was that it took almost an entire clip to kill a person. now its resonable.

just stop running out there and gettin killed, i love the online now more so than ever

execution175938d ago

complaining it's not noob friendly enough, reason why i sold my MW2 yesterday and bought MAG and joined Raven ;)

velaxun5938d ago

I think the new patch and health is awesome!! it gives players to level higher and quicker

sashimi5939d ago

makes leveling easier...you mean it was hard? anyway now its newbfest and majority of my friends stop playing since they made it so easy to kill and to think we were making fun of MW2 while we play UC2... the irony.

BeaArthur5936d ago

sashimi...agreed, I do not like the new health system at all. The game was fine the way it was. Now there is basically no hope of surviving if someone starts shooting at you. No time to dive behind cover or run around a corner. Naughty Dog has done everything right until this point. A shame that they botched this one.

Bryan Weber5939d ago

The new patch took away the balance that Uncharted 2 previously had. Naughty Dog should not change the fundamentals of multi-player this late into the release. At the very least Naughty Dog should change the Sniper change back two shot kills. The new sniper damage promotes camping, which decreases the fun for everyone. Overall the patch is starting to push Uncharted 2 towards being mainstream and I really hope that this trend does not continue. There was a reason this game won game of the year, and it wasn't camping.

MajesticBeast5939d ago

The sniper needs to be 2shots again.

Unicron5939d ago

I can't stand constant rebalancing of games. Fix something that's broken, don't dumb it down so "everyone can win" and feel all special.

Uncharted 2 Is the Most Important PlayStation Exclusive of All Time

In a list of games that defined the PlayStation 3, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves would certainly be one of the top contenders. The blockbuster sequel to 2007’s Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune not only received critical acclaim and became a massive hit for Sony’s third console when it was released 15 years ago on October 13th, 2009, but it also cemented Naughty Dog’s future as a developer of cinematic, story-driven action-adventure games as opposed to its history of colorful platformers like Crash Bandicoot and Jak and Daxter from previous PlayStation generations. To this day, Uncharted 2 stands as one of the PS3’s best exclusives and one of the most important PlayStation games of all time.

it was pretty good. especially the multiplayer

KyRo564d ago

I loved this era on multiplayer games from Sony. People used to call the modes tacked on multiplayer but they were enjoyable. I loved Factions even more. I'm Still gutted that the second one isn't coming out.

-Foxtrot564d ago

Yeah, that one game where it not only has an amazing single player but the multiplayer was also just as good.

A fresh a breath air with it's more "skill focused, less is more" multiplayer in a time during COD fever where every other game with online was trying to be like it.

Shame NaughtyDog eventually did do COD like things with Uncharted 3 and 4, they ruined what made the original so good. It become an over the top arcade fest in the end.

Inverno564d ago

Ironic cause the MP was basically Halo, and Bungie helped on the technical side of things too. MP was more simple back then, I've said this before but I played U2 MP religiously. I sucked at it like you have no idea, but mah gawd did I have so much fun. Can't find an MP game that hooked me like U2s these days. Then Factions came along and while it had its problem I found new religion with it. Agh damn it why did they cancel Factions 2 bruhh.

gold_drake564d ago

i had so much fun too, played almost every night with mates or cousins baha

Relientk77564d ago

It is for sure my favorite game in the series. It's such a blast to play. The train levels still hold up and are fun as hell as well as the entire game.

RaidenBlack564d ago (Edited 564d ago )

Still remember the first gameplay video ... shooting the chasing truck and then the beautiful visuals & details whilst traversing the dilapidated Nepal streets ... perfection
Too bad Sony never ported the trilogy to PC ...

RaiderNation564d ago

I would argue it's God of War.

darthv72564d ago

I'll say, the PS3 really did sequels better than people give it credit for. Resistance 2, Uncharted 2, Motorstorm Pacific Rift, Infamous 2... all were better than their initial offerings and still hold up to this day.
