Valve 'sure' it'll develop for PS3 in the future

Valve is pretty high up on the hit lists of PS3 fanboys, due in no small part to the studio's refusal to develop PS3 games. The company has refuted the idea time and time again, but today has come a step closer to admitting that Valve may eventually bring its titles to PS3. In fact, Chet Faliszek is sure it'll happen.

maybe GOW3 and uncharted 2 slapped Gabe "Fatbell" in the face.

blitz06235925d ago

Gabe knows deep down he will enjoy developing for the PS3.

The problem is he is a typical 360 fanboy, so he hates on the PS3 but secretly has a liking to it, just like any other 360 fanboy.

young juice5925d ago

if the ps3 keeps on track there is no doubt in my mind somethings gonna happen with valve.

who the heck is Chet Faliszek?

marinelife95925d ago

That's okay Newell if you want to alienate potentially 50% of your sales audience you can keep your source engine games on a system where it's graphics won't get laughed at.

DaTruth5925d ago

I'll care when they make a game that interests me!

Halflife 3 please!

5925d ago
evrfighter5925d ago

I'm sure Valve dev's would be excited to work on the ps3 after continously seeing comments like johnpauls.

Don't be surprised if they decide not to in the end.

FamilyGuy5925d ago (Edited 5925d ago )

This seems like that type of title/topic that'll reach the top.

I don't know about Valve, What do they make besides Left 4 Dead and Counter-Strike, do we even need them?

raztad5925d ago (Edited 5925d ago )

Valve can keep the zombie stuff but I'd gladly buy Half Life 3 for the PS3 if ever comes out.

EDIT: Please Valve no crappy ports. Do it well or dont bother.

IdleLeeSiuLung5925d ago

Same old story re-baked into another article to feed the fanboys.

SnuggleBandit5925d ago

i ain't buying anything from them after all their crap statements.

I guess now the ps3's 35 million install base is just too much too overlook huh gabe? Not to mention the extra power and space on the ps3. But i guess they should have started over after the "complete failure" the ps3 is though right?? lmao

Valve decided to invest in ps3 development the moment ms ramped up their steam competitor

http://www.techspot.com/new...

"Games for Windows Live to compete with Steam, others

By Matthew DeCarlo, TechSpot.com
Published: December 4, 2009, 2:14 PM EST
Microsoft has announced that Games for Windows Live will receive Games on Demand on December 15, essentially becoming a full-fledged game distribution platform. As implied by its name, Games on Demand will allow users to purchase and download titles from their PC. "

steam is valves bread and butter and what generates almost all of its revenue.. MS launching games on demand for windows in december 2009 was a serious threat to valve.. seems like gabe isn't stupid and now realises that swallowing ones pride and supporting ps3 in the near future isn't such a bad thing - especially given that your previous wonderful 'ally' has actually just decided to do you up the proverbial..

Persistantthug5925d ago

No one on the PS3 is clamoring for Valve's overrated mods, including their money grab L4D2.
Keep that money grabbing crap on XBOX 360 where it belongs and where its business model is well more received and better accepted.....with XBOX LIVE'ers.

No thanks.

PotNoodle5925d ago (Edited 5925d ago )

For those saying Gabe is a 360 fanboy need to go back and find out where those PS3 comments started off from. They started off from him talking about how Microsoft don't make much effort to make things easier for software developers, and with the 360 not having a standard hard drive it was making it even worse for him.

Which brought him on to the subject of the PS3, yeah - he may not like the PS3, but you can't call him a 360 fanboy when its just a money maker for his company now, he is and always will be a PC fanboy.

Buying a valve game on a console is silly anyway..

The Lazy One5925d ago

valve hasn't really made any crappy ports. They've let other people make crappy ports for them though.

@all: you all need to chill out. Valve just wants to concentrate on game design rather than game technology. PS3 is a significant technology investment that would require large rewrites to their engine and distract them from their main focus, design.

Anon19745925d ago

I remember when Valve partnered up with ATI and suddenly Nvidia cards weren't good enough to run Valve's games properly, despite the rest of the gaming world having no problem getting their games to run on both brands of graphics cards. Valve was created by Microsoft millionaires and their ties to the company are strong.

I'm sure they'll launch games on the PS3 to earn a few quick bucks but given their history of shoddy support on products who they aren't specifically partnered up with I wonder if PS3 owners really need Valve titles on the PS3.

If they're really serious about brining titles to the PS3, then do it, but don't port your titles half assed for a quick buck. View

jcgamer5925d ago

after ALL that yip yappin out of Gabe's BIG MOUTH about PS3...if the game is a dud, it'll sink faster than Gabe on the TITANIC...

lol :)

himdeel5925d ago (Edited 5925d ago )

I'll believe them the DAY after their first PS3 game drops but not before. Call me Debbie downer or skeptical Susie all you want. I'm no fool :)

Besides I'm not interested in their current crop of games :(

XXXCouture5925d ago

evrfighter -> LMAO are you dumb? do you seriously think developers, sid and read comments from guys on (whatever website) and then says. "ohhh no some fanboy said he didnt want L4d on ps3, SO WERE NOT GONNA MAKE IT. STOP WORKING EVERYBODY ON THE PS3 VERSION, JOHN SAINT JOHN SOMETHING FANBOY SAID HE DIDNT WANT OUR GAMES!"

pangitkqb5925d ago

With over 30 million PS3's now in the hands of the public there are simply too many potential game sales in that demographic to miss out on. IN other words, the extra million or so copies of L4D2 that would have sold if the game was available on PS3 is just too much to ignore.

More sales always = better for business. Welcome to financial reality, Valve.

madpuppy5925d ago

Valve is a company started by a bunch of former MS employees.

I think that, in a way may contribute to the attitude that Gabe Newell and Valve has for the PS3 and Sony.

Even though, I really don't understand, usually Former Employees of MS hate the company.

ico925925d ago

i honestly couldnt care less if valve develops for the ps3 or not i've been enjoying their games on the PC ever since the 1st Half Life (classic game is classic)

jjohan355925d ago

Another stupid article or blog entry from destructoid. Are you guys seriously giving them hits? This site is worse than HHG.

Lykon5925d ago

gabe the hut will do it for money mabey, but who cares....left 4 dead will run on a ten year old pc anyway....half life 3 would be good,,, as long as they don't ruin the pc version with malware drm ..otherwise it'll be pirate copies all round.

pixelsword5925d ago

Look it up; I'm sure he'll develop for the PS3 like he did for the PS2, but he probably wanted to keep his investment secure first.

He's not an idiot.

Hanif-8765925d ago

I'll keep on playing Sony's first party exclusive games :-)

jessupj5925d ago

And I 'sure' as hell won't be buying their games after their pathetic, immature, unprofessional behavior. If they make a game worthy of my purchase I'll just buy it second hand.

morganfell5925d ago

Valve made their bones on technology created by someone else.

I don't care to help them move up in the gaming world by repeating the
process with the PS3.

Thanks, but no thanks Valve. Don't come crawling to Sony now. You should have thought before you opened your fat mouths and insulted a very large and potent fanbase.

ReservoirDog3165925d ago

Maybe it's not as expensive anymore? I don't know.

Yay for PS3 only owners.

mastiffchild5925d ago

Well, if it's the quality of their ports to PS3 being the stopping block then why do I find their 360 ports lazy, crappy undersupported(compared to PC) as well.

People go on about Gabe and crew being MS and 360 fanboys and though his career has heavy, heavy MS connections I don't believe Valve have ANY particular love for that console, or any console for that matter. We get 360 ports because it's EASY for Valve to knock them out cheaply and sell them to us at a higher price than the PC games. The 360 version of L4D I bought was £45 while I paid about £20 for it on PC off Steam-and the two are incomparable in terms of quality of experience. If more 360 only gamers knew how inferior the games are on the console they wouldn't be so ready to rally behind Valve and the same is true of PS3 fanboys yearning for a console version for them.

IMO the gap between the PC versions and console versions of Valves games on 360 is far bigger than other companies. Bioware and others manage a far closer imagining of their products than Valve-and iD will later this year too. The claims that it's !quality" concerns stopping Valve making PS3 ports is laughable to me when they can't be bothered making the 360 ones that great even with the happy situation of it having very familiar dev tools for them. Fact is, imo, the PS3 would be harder and more expensive for them to port to and they just aren't bothered about console gamers enough to put in that kind of effort especially when they know they alienated a lot of PS3 gamers by running their mouths off unnecessarily and unprofessionally about the PS3 and about the PS3 gamer's community as well! That Sterling is thick enough to believe PS3 gamers are angry over anything else is ridiculous-Bungie don't, or haven't made PS3 games and PS3 gamers don't hate them, do they Jim? Why not? Because they didn't get into an amateur sounding war of words over the console and it's gamers at a frikkin guess!

Look, I LOVE Valve's games and maybe if I didn't know how good L4D was on the PC I'd like it more on the 360 but I just can't say it's a good, quality port when I just don't see that. Graphically it's pretty weak on 360(weaker than most other PC/360 releases and further from it's PC version than most and, honestly, L4D isn't a GREAT looking PC game in any case!)and it doesn't run nearly as smoothly either-and I won't even get into the lack of support it gets on 360(community/mods/Valve themselves-either none or less on the 360).

I also feel the 360 version of The Orange Box was miles away from it's PC brother and got away with it's own shortcomings purely because the EA port to PS3 was so terrible. No, to me the 360 ports have been quick grabs for cash made with an attitude of "that'll do for console gamers" and if that doesn't change it isn't something 360 gamers should brag about or something PS3 owners should desire. Personally I wish they'd just get on with HL2 Ep3 for PC and stop all the console stuff as they're amazing PC devs where they can really shine with great ideas making up for the ageing Source engine but the cash from the ports to 360 must really be getting addictive-esp if they're seriously looking at PS3 ports in future.

Anyhow, I know people love L4D1 and2 on 360(which is fine)and maybe I would too if I didn't also play them both on PC but, as I do (and also just started ME2 on 360 which is so much closer to it's PC version than anything Valve EVER made for 360 that i's a little startling, frankly)I just couldn't tell PS3 fans to get excited by this(apparent) change of heart. Either stick to PC and get the game out that we ALL wanted in the first place(remembering what you said about getting episodes of HL out to us more quickly when you started the whole Episodes thing too Gabe!?)or, please, start worrying as much about console ports in real life as your staff claim to in the media nowadays.

There's a big hoo ha over Valve that they started themselves by needlessly baiting the PS3 crowd but, really, that shouldn't distract anyone from the evidence here and to me it suggests Valve will remain PC devs to the bone and until there's an attitude change there I don't see the same effort or care being put into any console ports they might make.BTW I never said the games were BAD on 360as a good game is a good game even when it's a bad version(hell, even the PS3 version of TOB was enjoyable for anyone who hadn't played it elsewhere). No, it's the disparity between the PC versions of their games being so much bigger than with any other dev I can think of that annoys me, and when you pay up to twice as much for lesser versions with fewer features and no mods or community support AND less support from Valve themselves it doesn't feel like value and it certainly doesn't feel like quality. Not to me anyway and if it's this holding up HL2 Ep3 then I'm even more annoyed;)

Kill me if you like, it's just my opinion that they don't give two sh1ts about any console and were the dev tools for 360 any more different to PC ones we probably wouldn't have seen any 360 ports from them yet either and as the Source engine's so old now I don't see why the gap between the PC versions and 360 versions has been so big when better looking PC games have ported to 360 looking much closer to their original forms than anything Valve have managed. My current advice? Buy Valve games on PC unless you only have a 360(though you don't need ANYTHING special to run their PC games tbh)-and then try to get them cheap somehow as , in my eyes, they really aren't worth paying more for.

JD_Shadow5925d ago

And Edge magazine, a mag that seems to always have it in for PS3 exclusives in their reviews and the one that broke the story, is just making this up, right? The man that wrote the Destructoid article, the same man who writes all those insane anti-PS3 articles as if he were making a comment on N4G's Open Zone, is just making this up and just PRETENDING that they read the Edge article, right? All the alt. sources are just making this up, correct? They're all in this conspiracy, right?

Sounds like you're scared about it possibly actually happening. After all, when someone who hates the PS3 needs a good quote to back them up, they go straight to something that Valve's said. They're the last big developer that has yet to move to the PS3, and many are beginning to wonder why.

For me, I don't know if I would buy the games or not if they come out on the PS3, but I would say to Valve: PROVE IT! Let's see what you can do with the system. You burned the bridges, but if you find the right things, you can build a NEW bridge. Don't make another dumbass comment, prove you're true to your word, get the lead out of your asses and learn something, and make us PS3 gamers forget that you even SAID anything about the PS3 at all.

Godmars2905925d ago

That was a lot to say for something that shouldn't require so many words.

Valve first and foremost is a PC developer. A PC dev who have been using the same game engine since they first came on the scene. They got someone else to do a port of Half-life for the PS2 and dragged their heels on Half-life 2 for the Xbox. If the 360's dev tools hadn't been so PC friendly they probably wouldn't have touched the system for the same reasons they made up for the PS3.

All that said, if they announced Left 4 Dead tomorrow...well, its too simple to say people would buy it. They've really done a ton of PR damage and no way in hell anyone would take them at their word much less ability that all they'd turn out would be a buggy mess with no extras.

Anyway, you could've just said "Fu*k em" and save the essays for school...

starvinbull5925d ago (Edited 5925d ago )

Frankly whatever Valve eventually do will be massively undermined by Newells comments on the matter.

Just as well that Valve don't NEED to develop for PS3 but when they do they are much less likely to be succesful at it.

And it would have to be something new. LFD2 or TF2 (with all the content) in a years time massively overdue and massively outdated won't be greeted with open arms.

morganfell5925d ago

Naughty Dog singlehandedly demonstrated that Newell is 99% full of crap and 1% full of himself.

Raoh5924d ago

its not a grudge on my part. i generally dislike people who talk trash...

epic is also a great developer and has chosen to make 360 games over ps3 games but they dont bash the ps3 and epic did make unreal tournament 3 for the ps3.

now UT3 may not have been a really awesome game.. but at early days of the ps3 woes epic managed to make a game that ran smooth, without the option install it provided, keyboard and mouse support as well as pc mods shared to the ps3 community.

gabe just talks trash without anything to back it up.. does valve make great games? absolutely. but gabe spoke without thnking just to back up either pc or 360.. if a pc dev like epic who sides with the 360 can make games for ps3 well i'm sure valve could without the trash talk.

young juice5925d ago

valve did say alot of sh*t about the ps3.

but left 4 dead is a decent game although im not necessarily looking foreword to it.

im sure there are alot of sony fanboys that would like to rub a left 4 dead game in the xbots face.

Defectiv3_Detectiv35925d ago

As much as I hate to agree with 12 year olds

Valve does suck. They used to be my favorite dev back in the original HalfLife/CounterStrike/TeamFor tressClassic days. But there is just no excuse for their output these days. I don't care who is defending it, L4D is a seriously mediocre game in every aspect. The downloadable title Zombie Apacolypse is more fun.

Ronster3165925d ago

If L4D 1 & 2 are "Garbage" then what does that make the following ps3 FPS exclusives............

Resistance 1.
Resistance 2.
MAG.

All of the above ps3 exclusives scored less than L4D 1 & 2, and 1 of them scored a LOT worse..... (MAG)

You talk nonsense Sgt. Slaughters right hand man.

dustgavin5925d ago (Edited 5925d ago )

Hmm...
You forgot the 360 exclusive shooters that also scored less.
Halo 3:ODST
Section 8(Which scored WAAY worse than MAG)

dustgavin5925d ago

Here is another stinker that got released in August for 360/PC. We all know how the bots love claiming exclusive titles that are also on PC.

you know what gabe, i might have cared before.. and after the awesome orange box even the ea port made me happy and wishful of a valve/sony project..

but with so many games to play on the ps3..

you can either make one or not, i'm not that concerned anymore..

ps3 owners dont forget either.. your comments will not be forgotten may want a different spokesperson to represent valve for any ps3 games..

shut down your twitter and facebook etc

-EvoAnubis-5925d ago

Yeah, Gabe burned this bridge. He basically told all of us that that we were idiots for buying something that was 'a waste of everybody's time.' The man is living in a dream world if he think the PS3 fanbase (overall) would give a crap if they started making games for the PS3.

They wouldn't get so much as a quarter out of me, I promise it.

evrfighter5925d ago

well you guys would probably get one opportunity to experience what real dev support is like. No other dev does it better.

The problem is your goin on like they NEED your money. They don't and Steam makes sure of that. No matter what you do and say your only shooting yourselves in the foot while Valve continues to bring in truckloads of cash without the ps3 community.

table5925d ago (Edited 5925d ago )

You guys are holding a needless grudge. Valve make some of the best games and even though I don't particularly won't them to develope games for ps3(I'd prefer them to concentrate their resources on PC), many playstation owners would love the opportunity to play their games. Your average ps3 owner out there has no idea what they have said in the past, nor would they care anyway. A game is a game.

-EvoAnubis-5925d ago

I will agree that Valve's support for their games is incredible....so long as you're playing on a PC. Past that, they don't seem to care so much.

Major_Tom5925d ago

Naughty Dog does it better. Clearly.
