IGN: Alan Wake Hands-on

IGN writes: "Alan, wake up." It's these eerie words that have opened each brief look I'd been given of the upcoming but rarely heard from action-thriller, Alan Wake. Today would be different, however. I had traveled to Finland for a visit to Remedy Entertainment's studio, the building where a small team of less than 50 had been toiling away for years in relative silence on its next big game."

From the article:

"It all comes together to feel smarter than most any other action game I've played. "

And he surely has played God of War too =)

shocky165855d ago

GoW3 wont even win Action game of the year with Bayonetta(s360v)out

xTruthx5855d ago (Edited 5855d ago )

yeah shocky16, bayonetta is gonna win a lot of awards......s/

It didn't even reach a million in sales with ps3 and 360 sales combined

NeutralGamer5854d ago

Thats funny... People (especially PS3 Fanboys) use to say that sales dont define a game at all... And that is true...

An award is not given to a game just because it got alot fans -.-
Welcome to the reality fanboys...

xTruthx5853d ago

Do you know whats the meta score for bayonetta ?

NeutralGamer5853d ago

Yeah its 91 for the Xbox 360 version...
Thats pretty good compared to uncharteds 96...

"What consistently impressed me about Alan Wake is how well it is constructed. The visuals are striking, the sound effects and music are fantastic, and the art style is unique enough to make this game stand out from the pack. But it is the clever writing and well-woven themes that made my time with the game so memorable. Alan Wake constantly toys with the player, making them question what is real and what is a nightmare."

"It all comes together to feel smarter than most any other action game I've played. "

GOTY contender it seems. Xbox exclusives will be competing with each other for this title.

FamilyGuy5855d ago

With the flashlight/any concentrated light source as you Cross or Holy Water used to weaken you enemies before you use a real weapon. It's a cool idea and also one of the things that makes the game so pretty.

Lots of information coming this week.

HighDefinition5855d ago (Edited 5855d ago )

Yes, cause GOWIII and all the other absolutly amazing games on the PS3 don`t exist. Alan Wake looks great and absolutly like a GOTY contender, but to undermind the PS3s lineup would just be plain dumb. Buy both systems to make sure you played ALL the great games this year, for $199 and $299 you`d be stupid not to if you enjoy gaming.

TOO PAWNED5855d ago

Erik Brudvig - nuff said. Very biased journalist that tends to overhype 360 games and undermines PS3 exclusive. Like no so long ago Infamous vs Prototype, go watch vid for yourself. Ignoring Uncharted 2 and recent Gow 3 dissect vid with him and Roper. He was just there seating next to Roper, no excitement, said one sentence and it was some lame attempt to be funny.
Pass.

Tiberium5855d ago

dude he's part of the xbox team. he doesn't review ps3 exclusives. And he is supposed to hype 360 games.

Danteh5855d ago

aquanox, still don't get it, oh well np

The only games hat will be competing for GOTY are all on PS3, GOW III, GT5, heavy rain or Last Guardian for example...a ferocious battle indeed.

Maybe Mass Effect can snag a Best RPG title, with permission of FFXIII :D

likedamaster5855d ago

"And after sitting down to play the game for nearly two hours, I can report back that it has been worth the wait. This is easily one of my most anticipated games of 2010."

Much variety this year for the old Xbox 360. Action/mystery, RPG, superhero sandbox, stealth/action, and hardcore sci-fi shooter(Halo Reach) to top it off. Jump in.

Aquanox5855d ago

Ok apart from God of War 3 please enlight me on which other PS3 game is shaping as a GOTY contender?

Swiftfox5855d ago

I still can't put my finger on what's bothering me about the actual gameplay of this title.

Unfortunately, the gentleman that wrote the article couldn't stop going on about what was happening in the story and the graphics quality to dive more in depth with the actual mechanincs of the gameplay itself.

So many questions left unanswered that I feel should have been answered in a "hands-on".

It is really ashame that no one will stop fighting or boasting over the graphics for 2 bleeding minutes, to discuss possible perks and flaws in gameplay mechanics and application related to the type of game it is.

Willio5855d ago

Calling games out as GOTY contenders before its even out or played by the masses is premature, bias and unrealistic. This is what people call "HYPE." Journalists hype people to read their blogs/websites/magazines to make money. Don't get suckered in.

In reality, ALL THE GAMES before the next GOTY awards is a contender because we have yet to play it or know anything about it.

I don't want to upset anyone but lets remember games such as Too Human for its extensive hype train and development time. Let's also not forget Heavenly Sword for its "SHORT" 8 hour game which is now the standard. Lets not forget "MGS4" for being a movie and "Halo" for being another generic shooter, yet it sold the most for its respective systems.

Moral of the story: don't jump onto the hype train. Instead, take a bus and think of your comments before you post it.

Alan Wake - The Heavy Rain you can actually play.

Arnon5855d ago

Holy freaking god, man. Those first two shots blew my mind.

Rucury5855d ago

The preview actually got me excited for Alan Wake. And yeah, I've been thinking about the whole Heavy Rain similarity, but really, I think both are very old games (development wise). Can't seem to remember which one was announced first, although I have a feeling it was Heavy Rain...

starchild5855d ago

Those screen shots are amazing. I'll say it again, this is the best looking game on any console in my opinion. For overall realism and detail, nothing I have seen on consoles looks better than Alan Wake.

KingKionic 5855d ago

All these previews just increase my hype for this game .

WildArmed5855d ago

Yeah, somehow the game reminds me of old School Silent Hill games..
Can't wait

KingKionic 5855d ago

It has that creepy and eerie vibe to it . Kinda like silent hill had .

Getting amped up, good read.

A Late Look: Alan Wake

VGChartz's Mark Nielsen: "All in all, it’s not hard to see why Alan Wake has received a bit of a cult following (there’s that famous foreshadowing again). It’s a title that blends themes and gameplay, while pushing the limits of storytelling by putting stories within stories and letting you read those stories before you get to that part in… the story. It has flaws, to be sure - the gameplay side can’t quite keep up with the rest of its ambitions - but overall it’s a great game that stands out among its peers and is undeniably… one for the books."

Kind of a goody story...

On a serious note, that is why I try activating gift cards asap. It's happened to me where the store didnt scan it right where the card was unusuable. Happened at Wally World.

gigoran8685d ago

wait, that place is real? national lampoon wasn't kidding?

jznrpg97d ago

People sometimes call Wal-Mart Wally World including myself

Tacoboto684d ago

I just bought two of the MonsterVerse Godzilla movies on 4K - both had digital copies expiring in 2023. Both were actually expired.

I'd be surprised but it's WB, of course they'd actually expire them

Knightofelemia685d ago

Usually most of those redemption card have an expiry date on them. If they expired all buyer did was buy recycled paper. And some of those codes are country locked to certain countries. I buy a card from the States I can't use it in Canada.

Chocoburger685d ago

Dumb and silly story. She wasted her money for no reason.

Is it really that hard to go to Steam or GOG. She spent $240, when its currently 70% off on GOG, and only costs $4.49.

Gee, I wonder, should I spend $240 on eBay, or $4.49 on GOG? 🙄

Rynxie684d ago

Most likely she wanted to resell a few or most of them. However, it was a too good to be true situation.

685d ago
Profchaos685d ago

So in short she paid $240.00 assuming usd for a bunch on unactivated game codes.

I still don't understand why I guess cause there's not a physical version and she wanted something for a collection or art project.

Rynxie684d ago

No, most likely to resell. However, she ended up getting screwed.

Asplundh684d ago

This is Alan Wake 1, it had physical copies.
