EA Dropping Online Support For More Games

EA games have decided to drop the online support for more of their online games. Much like they did not so long ago with some of their 07/08 game, EA will be closing the servers making it impossible for you to play them online. Although the games are old, this does come as a blow to many players as they will no longer be able to gain the online achievements.

The following games will be affected…

reality is that there probably aren't that many people playing those games online.

I guess the disadvantage of consoles are no personal dedicated server for gaming.

damn for a while i got scared because when i say lord of the rings i thought it was battle for middle earth 2

You don't even need dedicated servers. Just the ability to host a LAN game is fine enough. This-gen, LAN games are as scarce as the 40 y/o virgin from the 60s.

"reality is that there probably aren't that many people playing those games online"

They're shutting down Madden 09. Freaking Madden 2009!
You CANNOT tell me there aren't a lot of people playing that one.

I didn't see Madden 2009 in that list? Where did you get that Madden 2009 servers are being shutdown?

excuse me, but what the f*ck???? unnacceptable aghghriwvujfbrbrf......

This is why no one bought those games and they flopped. EA drops support for anything that doesn't take off and make them money. I would like to see Sony/Microsoft require patches be implemented in games where the Host discontinues service so that it becomes a P2P and people who play the game can still play together.

Is anyone actually still playing these games online...I am truly sorry if so. I tried to grab as many achievements as i could in LOTR:conquest but christ I had to give up on most of the online ones, that game sucked harder than a cheap slut.

DelbertGrady5936d ago

I say it's a good thing. Give those servers to BC 2 instead.

solar5936d ago

weird. i can still play online on servers for games released in '96 on my PC.

I don't agree with that. I WISH I could agree with that. But buying habits and customer opinions prove otherwise

We've seen developers in the AAA space try new things and ideas. More often than not, the customers aren't willing to give things a chance, or not enough people buy into the project for it to grow.

Creativity works better in the indie space because the budgets, pressures, and expectations aren't the same.

it's a nice idea and it worked during the PS2/PS3-era when AAA didn't cost hundreds of millions of dollars. smaller budgets and shorter development time left room for more creativity and more risk. a game didn't need to sell 4 million+ copies to break even. things are different now.

This is the guy who bragged about crunching his staff and having them work through the night. Crunch culture has lost more talent and done more damage to the industry than any other factor. Screw him.
