I'd like to see the source data for this 'common fact'.

In fact I'd think it to be more likely that PS3 owners don't have gaming rigs as we do KNOW that, on average, PS3 owners are older than gamers on X or Nin and as such are more likely to use a PC as a tool for email/work and not as a gaming rig.

So...again, where are the studies to back up your statement?

Personal experience: I know 10 PS3 owners irl...not one has a gaming PC...we are all over 30 years in age.

What is a fact is: You DONT need an extremely powerful rig to play this game. Any decent PC with a decent video card can get the job done at medium settings.

He is pointing out the fact that some PS3 fanboys love hiding behind the PC when somebody brings up the fact that PC/360 games don't exist on the PS3 (console exclusives) but when it comes to "graphics king" these same fanboys will make sure that they mean "console graphics king".

Console Graphics King= Sony. The PC is ignored.

Console Exclusivity= Non Existent. PS3 fanboys wont let somebody say PC/360 game is console exclusive because it exists on the PC and its superior on the PC. The fact that it's not on the PS3 doesn't matter because nearly everybody owns a PC and PS3 fanboys say "lol, I can just play it on PC". The PC is not ignored in this case, despite the fact that it's ignored when talking about graphics king. Fanboy hypocrisy at its best.

Ps3 fanboys (and note that I said fanboys, not regular PS3 owners, so don't feel offended) always manipulate the PC like that. They know it's the superior platform but will ignore it and act as if the PS3 has the best "console" graphics. Some are even delusional enough to think that UC2 has the best technical graphics ever, even better than PC games. But God forbid if somebody uses that same logic and says a game is a "console exclusive"

However, I would love ME on my PS3. My PCs aren't capable of any gaming. I wouldn't say the PS3 NEEDS Mass Effect but theirs everything to gain and nothing to lose if it comes to the PS3. Sony doesn't need Mass Effect like its some hungry lost dog. The PS3 has a ton of great exclusives this year alone. Mass Effect will simply make the PS3 even stronger. Like other 360 games its exclusive for a while and then makes its way onto the PS3 because the audience is there and it's strong. Unlike the beginning of this gen there's no way devs can ignore the PS3 today. It's still not as popular or used as the 360, but it's definitely near-equal and rising to overtake the 360. I can't imagine why it wont come to the PS3 eventually, and I am dying for that game.

Everyone knows PC has the best graphics. Everyone knows the PS3 has the best CONSOLE graphics. Nothing beats Crysis 2 oveall but nothing beats Killzone 2 and Uncharted 2 on CONSOLES.

Your comment about hypocrisy sounds like the Xbox fanboys and their sales argument. The say the Xbox is the best because their games sell more than the PS3 games but totally ignore the fact the Wii and it's games outsell the Xbox and it's games. So by that logic isn't the Wii the best system out and isn't Wii Fit the best game out? Hypocrisy at it's finest right there.

You missed the point. You perfectly outlined the double standard. You are willing to ignore the PC and say "PS3 is console graphics king" but when it comes to CONSOLE exclusives, you ignore the definition all together and say that the PC/360 games aren't exclusive. How on EARTH did you not see that you are the prime example of what I'm talking about? You JUST said "Oh yeah, PS3 is CONSOLE graphics king but PC/360 games are not CONSOLE exclusive"

Why do you willingly ignore the PC when it favors the PS3 yet choose not to ignore the PC when talking about console exclusives?

"Console graphics king" and "Console exclusives" BOTH ignore the PC. YOU want to ignore the PC when it comes to console graphics king but you want to suddenly hide behind it when it comes to console exclusivity! That is the double standard! Yes, a PC/360 game doesn't mean it's exclusive, but it does mean it's exclusive to the 360 CONSOLE. 360 fanboys say this to point out that it's not on the PS3 platform. The PS3/360 fanboy war ignores everything else-- the Wii's sales, the PC's graphics, etc. YOU willingly admitted to the double standard. The PS3/360 fanboys can fight for second place all they want. However, it's baffling that you side with the PS3 using 1 line of logic, yet can't stand it if the other side uses the SAME logic you do. It's unfair, dirty, and completely hypocritical of people to use and ignore the PC whenever it benefits them and it shows how people are completely biased and how they view the industry through the eyeglasses of their favorite brand.

Let's face it, the PC is always dominant. Console wars always fight for second place. 360 fans talk about better online when Steam has the best for free. PS3 fans talk about graphics when the PC has the best.

Let's use YOUR logic: EVERYBODY knows that PC/360 games are multiplatform, which means they are NOT exclusive. HOWEVER, nothing stops it from people saying that PC/360 games can be CONSOLE exclusive, thus ignoring the PC like PS3 fanboys do with graphics.

I find it odd that you took offense to this and continue to use the same logic that Natsu, DarkTower, and I have been outlining.

Yup, that is hypocritical, but what's your point? It's completely irrelevant. If you want to play "he says she says", then go ahead but your ignoring the argument about console exclusivity. Are you trying to excuse the PS3 fanboyism with the 360 fanboyism? They are both equally ignorant. I think EA is waiting to see how good BIOshock2 sales overall. If it does poorly they may not want to take a chance on ME loosing that exclusive title. Bioshock was a big exclusive and now like many isn't even talked about after going multi.

Mass Effect doesn't NEED the PS3 at this point and the PS3 certainly doesn't NEED Mass Effect. They just benefit nicely from each other from a merger. However, EA certainly does NEED the PS3 to reap in as much profit as they can from the ME franchise to make their 800mill purchase of Bioware a worthy business venture and THAT is where the meat is.

EA NEEDS the PS3.

I'd rather have a new IP from Bioware. Mainly because i bought ME2 on Steam and DA:O on the PS3. Just hopefully not a "post apocalyptic" game since a lot of those are popping out after Fallout 3 made a lot of money.

It will definately be coming to ps3 soon. Its just a question of when. If you've got a gaming pc in addition to a ps3, then I would suggest getting it. Play the first one first though.... The story is really good.

Once I'm done with this one, i'll dive straight into ME2

You are saying as if a PS3 version could make more money than Microsoft could pay. Look at the bad sales for Dragon Age PS3 (another game from BioWare) or Bioshock PS3 (an old port, and that's exactly what Mass Effect would be on the PS3).

Also, it's funny how there are a lot of articles asking for a ps3 version of Mass Effect, but nobody is asking for a PC/x360 version of games like Demon's Soul. Can't ps3 owners live with their exclusives just like PC owners and x360 owners? It's really annoying and selfish.

Mass Effect is a game for PC and x360, Demon's Soul is a game for the PS3. Exclusivity is something to make you buy a console/PC, and not something to make you wait for a "my favourite console" version.

Why is it hard to understand that if a game is available on a platform you dont currently own, you get that platform? This goes right back to the old MGS4 on 360 way of thinking. I don't really know the details between MS and bioware prior to the EA merger but it looks like they have to honor that contract for the remainder of the contract period.

Standard business practice. After the contract is complete, then it can go in any direction provided the IP remains with the original creator. If part of the contract includes the sale of the IP to MS then there is nothing that can be done to change the fate of the game.

We could use EA the same way as Konami. EA is the parent company of bioware now. Yet bioware has pre-existing conditions regarding this game. Konami is the parent company for kojima's development team and kojima has been very loyal to sony even in the face of the 360 popularity. Konami is honoring the deal between sony and EA is honoring the deal between MS.

If you want to play this game then you have two choices. PC or 360. For me, I had no choice in order to play MGS4. The ps3 fans should just stop and think about it. They are in a better position than the 360 fans. Custody battles are generally reserved for monetary items and (sadly) children. Video games don't need to get caught up in them as well.

I've already played and beaten ME2 on PC. I can post pics to prove it if you want, great game, but I want it on PS3 because i'll go after the platinum. I like getting trophies on the PS3 but I don't really care about achievements on PC.

The game will show up on PS3 once MS's timed exclusive on it runs out. That's why Bioware doesn't comment on it the same way 2k didn't comment about a PS3 version of Bioshock. MS makes them sign a NDA for the free dough. Anyone see those NFL playoff games with "sponsored by Mass Effect 2". That's what EA is getting out of the timed exclusive deal, a buttload of advertising money from MS. The same way Square Enix got the money for the "sponsored by FF13" at the nba allstar game. If you can't wait just get it on the PC or 360 but it will come eventually.

PC fanboys didn't invade every site saying their console was better than ours and that PS3 will be dead; That is why PS3 owners ignore the PC and state how much better the graphics are than 360!

Again, 360 fanboys started the war on an offensive; we never have a need to defend our choice of console from Wii owners and PC gamers! So naturally, they never come up!

This is not a war per se, but an attack from the losers of the last two generations on the perceived victors of the last two generations. People who got crappy support from PS1 era, jumped on to the Dreamcast and we all know what happened to that. At which point they jumped from there to the XBOX having not learned their lesson and being such rabid fanboys at that point, they hated Sony. After their once again death at the hands of Sony, they came into this generation foaming at the mouth looking for blood!

As both the hated and loved PS3 owner I will say that the fact games such as ME2 are also on P.C. gives me less of a reason to purchase a 360. If I had a 360 I might purchase it on one but since I don't I can purchase it on a P.C.

I honestly don't understand why it's not on PS3 360 owners can bang on about how great it is and I will not disagree as no matter how short it is it's still a great game for what it is. The thing is all you 360 fanboys bang on about is sales and well Mass Effect is no sales hog because its not a pure shooter. Just a shooter with strong RPG elements. So most 360 owners don't give it the time of day. PS3 owners however are very varied about there games and would take it in well but the longer they leave it the less it will sell. Take Bioshock (the original) for example. No matter how good it is if you leave it too late it will sell poor as people won't care anymore.

I don't think it'd be a waste to port it over, but I also don't believe it's necessary. Ps3 will be fine without ME and ME is already fine without Ps3. I would have picked this up for my PC already had I enough money to go around, but that's the way it works.

Although TBH, it's hard to believe the ME series hasn't found its way over to the ps3 yet.

I'm one of those PS3 owners with a good rig. And just so you know...my computer is 2 and a half years old and can play mass effect 2 MAXED OUT!!! The game really isn't all that demanding on resources. I bet a 4 or 5 year old computer could play this at least on some low setting!!!

I have both console's and a regular PC/laptop. The only reason I still have the xbox 360 after the 2 RROD's it had was for ME2 and it was worth it. I love both systems but I hate the fact that people hate on PS3 and it has never failed on me. All my friends and millions of people have had a RROD. I don't think PS3 needs ME2 but it would be nice to throw away a crappy systems that is always failing.

They can't keep bleeding exclusives at such a rapid rate like this. So far, the only new current gen exclusives the 360 has are Viva Pinata and Gears and only one of those are in-house.

You're going to need a hell of a lot more than that to convince new comers (and keep current consumers on the console) that your console has high quality gaming entertainment content that can only be gotten on that unit.

...see I was playing Demon's Souls today and I was just thinking to myself, how come you never see games like this on the 360? Plus I know the 360 is capable of running a game like DS ( can't be that shLt ). That's the reason behind owning a PS3, the library is so diverse.

The 360 is just saturated with shooters and is attracting for FPS nuts.
This point is just going to get more proven come BFBC2's and FFXIII's release date.

You will never see games like KZ2/UC2/GOWIII FLOWER on the 360- the 360 definitely cannot produce those experiences.

You can't even say the 360 is saturated with FPSs cause it's not. The PS3 has more FPSs in it's library than the 360 does. Just look at the exclusive FPSs on both consoles

360: 1 (Halo)

PS3:3 (Resistance, Killzone, MAG) and more to be shown this year too.

Can Demon Souls be done on the 360? ofcourse. Can Valkyria Chronicles be done on the 360 AND the wii? ofcourse... but they aren't. You routinely see these diversity of genres only on ONE console and that's the PS3.

Is not always about what can and can't be done on a console but rather, what kind of experiences are offered and for this gen, PS3 is all a vast majority of console gamers need - period.

Instead of spending $299+$50 a year on a 360 and $200 on a wii, you could have $550 to spend on games on the PS3 and with the insane quantity and quality of the PS3 games, both on Disc and on PSN, lord knows you're going to need that money to keep up with all these fantastic gaming experiences.

I already played it on my PC and loved it and PS3 already has tonnes of games.

If anything I would like to see some PS3 exclusives go multiplat so I can play them on PC like Killzone 2, MAG or Demon's Souls but that's just not gonna happen so I'll just play it on the platform the developers meant it to be played on, like I did with Mass Effect.

I would think if FF XIII sells enough on the 360 that Vs XIII will get ported 6 months to a year after release. I would also think that most PS3 owners won't care at that point because the 360 wasn't a factor during the development time like with XIII so no gimping of the game will be done to make it fit on so many DVD's for the 360 like with XIII. Yes there is always content cut during development but not a whole games worth of content like with XIII. And we all know why it was that much content cut weather you want to admit it or not.

EA knew there was a deal in place with Mass Effect before they bought Bioware. They have stuck to that deal so far and they know MS s a big fish with alot of $. Mass Effect isn't the first EA game to be exclusive to the 360 there are about 5 or 6 other exclusive games. IMO I think EA will ride out the first 3 ME games on the 360/Windows and after that go multiplatform.

Does EA own Valve? maybe I'm wrong but they only publish Valves games they have no say where Valve's games goes, EA does own Bioware and has complete control over the ME franchise M$ only published the 1st ME, EA published the 2nd and nothing can stop EA from releasing ME 1/2 in the same form as Ninja Gaiden (Sigma). Also in almost every interview that Bioware and been asked is there going to be a PS3 version of ME2 every time it was "NO COMMENT" which tells me the only thing M$ has is a timed exclusive contract.

RPG = Role playing game

What do you do in Mass effect 2? You play the role of commander shepard, you make his decisions, you build his personality and relationships, you effect the world you live in and people around you. The ultimate definition of a Role playing game.

Just because it has good shooter mechanics and not 100 different skills to grind up does not mean it is not an RPG. Infact, i'd say this is one of the better examples of an RPG within the last 5 or so years, it is breaking away from the stereotype.

I am almost through ME2 for the first playthrough..great game..
PS3 does NOT need ME2..sure it would be a nice title to have, but I need ME2 for my 360, since its 1 of 3 buy 360 games for me all year.
contrary, I have more PS3 buy games by the end of March..
so it would be nice on the PS3, but not needed

I really wish people would stop approving these articles. This is not news. The Mass Effect series will never come to the PS3.

Why?

BioWare developed Mass Effect, MGS published it. After the first game was released, BioWare was purchased by EA. The sequel was published by EA, but there may be provisions in the original publishing contract that prevent BioWare and EA from making and releasing a PS3 version.

Going Multiplatform doesn't always yield more sales. In THEORY, it should. However, that is not always the case. You aren't really getting a much larger audience and sales to justify an expense of buying a party out of a contract. Mass Effect 2 has sold quite well and I don't think EA will be complaining anytime soon.

There is no "Only on 360" logo stamped on it. Microsoft does not own the IP, the only thing in question is were the resources and time spent or being spent on finishing up a PS3 version. Microsoft is not in the say so unless they struck a limited timed exclusive deal by paying for Super Bowl advertisement, which is probably the case. EA can release the game for the PS3 if they want without any legal ramifications. ME is not owned by Microsoft.

how to go about it all, it seems silly to just port mass effect 2 over, and porting over 1 now that 2 is out seems like a diss to the ps3 audience, I'd think they'd have to port it over and maybe streamline some of the advancements from part 2 into 1 and add in all the dlc, then maybe come out with 2 6 months from now as a port. I'm not sure really, it's not a small undertaking if you want to get the most out of the franchise. If you want a quick port I don't think it will sell incredibly well, it will look like 360 old leftovers, but if they add content pump it up they could establish a nice market for it. And it would probably be worth it in the end since they plan on making mass effect 3 and probably more after that. considering the latest interviews.

From your own evidence you put stock in. Ninja gaiden 2 is NOT ninja gaiden 2 sigma. They aren't parallel in any way. Mass Effect will never come to PS3 and unlike the deviation in the game's design, and even characters which sigma has. Mass Effect story line will not suffer and alteration.

It would alter everything about Mass Effect even the name which goes with the publisher. Want an example of that? Bohemia interactive is the developer of operation flashpoint. Codemasters was the publisher. They retained the rights to operation flashpoint's name. Bohemia retained the rights to the game engine and characters. That is why Arma and Arma II exists.

Read your evidence next time you try to make a point. DLC on the 360 isn't even accessible by the player in sigma on the ps3 even though it is represented in-game. That alone signifies a conflict between MS, sony, and tecmo.

You failed when you said that NG2 and NG2∑ aren't parallel in any way. Let's use some HONESTY here. We have NO idea what type of contract Microsoft has on the game, AND we have no idea if EA acquired the rights to the IP when they purchased Bioware (they most likely did, since Bioware owned the IP originally much like Epic with Gears). There is a no proof of a "trilogy contract", and once again, if MS has a say in it, they could've come out and stated that the game will never ever come to a PS3 a long time ago. Why would they want to risk losing potential customers due to these rumors? If I didn't have a PC capable of running ME or ME2, and I was to say "Wow, I really want to play Mass Effect, but that is the only XBOX360 exclusive I want to play", these rumors would definitely stop me from picking up a 360. I would just wait it out on the PS3 which has all of the familiar franchises and exclusives.

The Xbox 360 seems to put more stock in that Genre moreso but Sony has games in certain Genres, Ms should be pushing as well.

In all, that's the balance(needed or not) that lets a multiconsole owner to enjoy both platforms.

You could say, where is my Uncharted type game on the 360 or Where is my Mass Effect type game on the PS3? Both consoles don't have that exclusive game that somehow match each other.(While some multiplatform titles are just as good or better than exclusives) It doesn't have to be tit4tat like graphics comparisons and all that bull that goes on today.

Back in the Day, during the fierce SEGA/Nintendo market-share competition.(well the real console WAR) both console had games that went against eachother(let's not talk about commercials), though SEGA put more stocks in sports games/contracts..

Columns Vs Tetris
Streets of Rage Vs Final Fight
Top Gear Vs Outrun
Sonic & Tails Vs Mario & Luigi
Ninja Gaiden Vs Shinobi
.....etc

The thing is, I still enjoyed all them great games. Today gamers sh!t on the other Platform, regardless of the games. That's the big difference.

On topic, Mass Effect 2 is pretty much the only game from the 360 I'd like to see on my PS3 and I aint afraid to admit that. I really have no interest in the Halo and Gears of War games that the 360 guys always seem to hype up to infinity. The Mass Effect series definitely does look good and interesting. Hopefully one day it will come to the PS3 later, who knows for sure. But I do not think that the PS3 needs Mass Effect at all and I certainly can live without it, especially if the PS3 keeps producing excellent games like Uncharted 2.

The interest in a PS3 version would have waned so much by then that sales of a PS3 ME 1/2 may suffer and flop commercially, in a similar fashion to Bioshock 1 on the PS2.

I do. Because there is a contract between Bioware and Microsoft Game Studios for the entire trilogy. That's how business contracts work. EA has absolutely NO say in it at all. If they tried to, it would be a breach of contract.

All these "blogs" need to do some research before they post these ridiculous articles. Do I wish PS3 gamers could play this game? Sure. I'm really tired of hearing both sides complain about the other. Did you guys know MS and Sony care nothing about you defending their system?

Be a real gamer, go buy both systems. Most of us make enough in a week to go get both of them and a couple games.

contrary to popular belief, the Xbox and Playstation have different demographics (with some overlap, of course; i own a PS3 and an Xbox 360, like i owned a PS2 and Xbox and Gamecube last gen).

while i'm sure there are 360 fans that wouldn't mind playing Uncharted 2, and PS3 owners that wouldn't mind playing Mass Effect, it's not a desperate need. there is plenty on both platforms to make the lack of a Mass Effect or Uncharted on their platform unimportant.

i own both Mass Effects on my 360 (i'm done with the upgrading my PC battle that gets waged whenever newer games come out).

i'd be curious to see what would happen if they DID come to the PS3; if Bioware would actually cater to the system's strengths, but it's not vital, and many multi-console owners get to play the game anyway.

Bioware and Microsoft signed a deal for the entire trilogy. Yes, EA owns Bioware, but EA still has no say in what platforms the trilogy can go to, because that would be a BREACH OF CONTRACT and EA would lose its license to do business in the United States, or at the very least face a massive lawsuit that would result in the game not coming to PS3 anyways. God, I think half of N4G either went to DeVry or no college at all...or they are all 14 years old. Judging by the spelling and grammar, I would say the latter.

Sum up: Game goes to PS3 = Breach of Contract = the end of EA. Only Microsoft Game Studios has the right to let this game grace the PS3.

Does it suck? Yes, but that's the way business works in America. Everything is contractual.

If you want to play it so bad and don't own a decent PC, just get a 360. It's not expensive. I can get one for the price of a day and a half of work.

First off I would like to state that this is a bad article and secondly its not about making more money. Bioware and others have stated there dislike to develop on PS3 because it costs more and is too difficult. To me this is a load of crap but it makes logical sense. Why waste money on developing for PS3 and not make the money back? Let's be honest here, PS3 games do not make as much as Xbox 360 games AT THIS TIME. The PS3 is picking up steam but with the Xbox out longer it still has to compete. Also why would anyone want to change the way they make something even if it might be better or more profitable? It's a risk many don't take and only a few succeed. All and all Mass Effect will not make its way to PS3 as well as the Left 4 Dead series YET. Only time will tell...

PS3 owners have alot more ammunition over PC owners, most PC owners struggle loading Outlook 2003!!

more on topic though, i have dragons age on pc, but my gamefly ps3 dragon age arrived.. i just feel more comfortable playing games like this on my ps3 with a controller (i always have clunky controller problems on my pc, thats a me issue though not a pc gaming issue)

and while i would welcome starcraft/warcraft etc on my ps3, i would probably never bother with it and just go straight to my pc for some good starcraft madness (unless blizzard or other companies allowed keyboard and mouse support for it on the ps3)

I think that even if Mass Effect 2 is an amazing game ( I got it and finished it) I would vote that instead Sony tries to get ME trilogy to the PS3 they focus like getting the Diablo 3 game instead.

As far as I know Blizzard don't want to release diablo3 to consoles no matter what and so if Sony could convince then...

Hell, Warcraft 2 and Diablo 1 both landed on PS1, and Starcraft landed on N64. So who knows. They probably wouldn't need too much convincing if their games could be ported fine.

It really doesn't make sense as to why EA, the money-vacuum that they are, are releasing ME2 on PC/360. It's true, it really doesn't make a bit of sense. I get the Valve vibe from Bioware, I totally do. There's something there that just doesn't seem right, especially when you factor in all the would-be buyers on PS3. Not worth the resources? The same idiots that develop and port movie adaptations, kid's show games, and sports games, across ALL platforms? Like CLOCKWORK? But porting Mass Effect would be too much trouble? Porting it to the console with just as many or perhaps even more RPG fans? Right...

I don't tihnk ME2 really NEEDS the PS3, it has sold pretty well without being on that system.

But a little more monet wouldn't hurt I guess.

The game is not coming over...PERIOD. It's a done deal just like Ubisoft is not bringing Splinter Cell to PS3. They have their own exclusives. Be content w/ God of War 3 and Heavy Rain. Bioware said that Mass Effect is a trilogy and it would be stupid to bring it over w/ the series already in progression. It's a waste of time at this point.

As for PC gamers chiming in, go back to your little corner. No one understands why you nerds sit behind a desk and monitor and play games on something that is used for other uses. You are the minority and your sales don't equate to making a game successful. That's why Crytek jumped ship and started making console games

This is Sh!t. thats why its a console war, as if Microsoft hasn't made a deal to keep this. Fu#k do you hear 360 people wanting heavy rain? I'm so disappointed in sony people. Loose the attitude and go buy a fu#king 360 (or pc) and get this game. The 360 is a good machine.

I own both consoles and will buy a Wii when the Next Zelda and Metroid comes out.

Owning multiple consoles is a great thing if you are a serious gamer and not a fanboy.

I think many PS3 owners will buy this game, if it comes to Playstation 3, the problem is, how long do we have to wait, personally i wouldn't buy a xbox360 only for this game.

PS3 doesn't need mass effect. Mass effect doesn't need the Ps3 its optional not mandatory. I would laugh if they announced at e3 mass effect coming to the ps3 seeing how thats the samething with ff13 it would be funny although i doubt it lol.

Mass Effect seris would benefit greatly by being on the PS3, because they could then upgrade the game make it look better(it looks good, but could be better) they could add more content, and would not be conserned about number of disc. PS3 doesn't need Mass Effect though, the library of games for the PS3 is huge and missing out on this game does not cripple them or even slow them down.
Exclusive games are all losing out when they are not on the PS3, and the longer time goes that both systems are out the further ahead PS3 gets. 360 is stuck in 2007

What if we keep the Western RPG's on the western console and the JRPG's on the Eastern console? Its obvious neither sells on the other well anyway.
