It's been awhile since we've seen a TRUE DS successor, so the dev kit rumor seems somewhat plausible. However, I don't think we'd see it this year - Not with the DSi XL, which hasn't even been released in North America yet. That said, since I'm a huge handheld gamer, I'm very excited to see what the next DS will look like.

Ziriux5946d ago

A true DS successor, that is crazy talk. DS doesn't need one, it's a great handheld that keeps on selling.

qface645946d ago

i really doubt it launch a sequel THIS YEAR to a handheld that still sells like crazy doesn't make much sense

Noctis Aftermath5946d ago

Why wouldn't they release a DS2? it's not like they will stop selling the original DS, overall they will be making even more money.

DS2 and PSP2 will be announced at E3 and release in japan by december, release worldwide between march-may.

Ziriux5946d ago

Here we go Nintendo to sell another 30 million units for the handheld and not even half the games to match the sales of the unit.

Nintendo has always been a thorn on the PSP's side.

Sony will have to be mindful of the marketing for the rumored PSP2 if they want to butt horns with Nintendo again.

I can't believe the dominance of Nintendo, they really know this industry.

ProjectVulcan5946d ago (Edited 5946d ago )

Errr....didnt nintendo always dominate the handhelds? How then, can the Ds be the thorn? Sony are the newbies. Since the original gameboy, nintendo have had over 90 percent of the market. They had absolutely no serious competition whatsoever for nearly 15 years....until sony came along with PSP. Yes of course, the DS is still the dominant machine by a long way. Does that mean PSP is a failure? Sony launched this machine into a completely nintendo owned market, took a third of said market off them, selling over 50 million handhelds and counting- as much as N64 and gamecube combined in their lifetimes. The foot is firmly in the door for sony.

Only the most negative viewpoint could see Psp as a failure. 55m sales at first pop, against a name like nintendo in this sector? That is pretty damn good in my opinion. I wouldnt have expected psp to do any better. I for one thing, welcome competition. It can only mean a better future for the market.

get a life alpha every where i go i see your damn post with your stupid opinion look nobody cares about your opinion.and a second thing why do you always try to start a flame war with stupid comments like that you now it will make everything worse.please some people just need some attention because there parents arent giving them any

sikbeta5946d ago

Finally, he unveil his real self lol

"Sony must be shaking"

Yeah, cuz Selling +50m PSPs is Bad, right?

Anyway, I want to know how it'll work, I mean the DS Still Selling like Crazy and isn't better to just wait a little instead of making 2 Devices of the Same Company "[fight]" each other, just asking

kewlkat0075946d ago (Edited 5946d ago )

Your post so reminds me of the PS/Xbox market-share argument...Put Sony in Nintendo's position voila..

-Alpha5946d ago (Edited 5946d ago )

@Vulcan

I never said the PSP was a failure. Sorry, my comment was slightly misunderstood and I slightly left that possibility open. And what do you mean "How then, can the Ds be the thorn?" I'm saying that the PSP has always been trying to overtake Nintendo and that the DS has been a pain for that effort.

@Kratos

You cared enough about my opinion to get angry with it. If you dont like it, block me, genius.

@sikbeta

"Yeah, cuz Selling +50m PSPs is Bad, right?"

Because I said that, right?

God forbid I say a couple bad things about Sony. Get over your one-dimensional and simple-minded mentality that just because I have a PS3 I have to always praise it. It's funny how you cherry pick my comments and are always around when I say something critical only to have you say I have it out for Sony. This is the Gamer Zone, try to offer something a little more substantial than "OMG u hate the PS3!"

It better not come this year. I just bought a DSi to replace my old DS phat.

Alcon Caper5946d ago

They haven't really made a lot of DSi software. I have one too and I'm still waiting for that Ghostwire game. If they don't release more DSi software, I'll be very very mad.

OhMyGandhi5946d ago

yeah, someone told me about a possible ds 2 with a release date of 2011.
Dunno though, seems like it'd piss off people who JUST bought the ds-i.

Nintendo DOES know the industry, but for some reason that statement is bittersweet.

TwistedMetal5946d ago

they will still support DS but if you want the 5th gen pokemon game then you gonna be upgradeing to the DS2 and all of you will upgrade just like you bought 3 or 4 ds's boosting ds sales ever year. Although psp had many models they were basically the same thing except the psp go and you never really needed to buy a new one. Nintendo had the DS phat which is ddisgusting so you had to upgrade to the light, Then dsi which you had to upgrade to get wiiware games and exclusives. Now dsXL for those who struggle with the small Ds. Its a must upgrade for them. Now yet again you need the Ds2 for thew best games like pokemon. A lot of people need to control there buying impulse. nintendo will walk all over you if you dont.

Quadrix5946d ago

I wouldn't be surprised if 5th gen is a DS2 exclusive. To date, I believe there's only been 1 gen per handheld. 1st gen on the original GB, 2nd gen on the GBC, 3rd on the GBA, and 4th on the DS.

I enjoyed both Rush games, I did think the action was sometimes too fast to see what was coming up in terms of hazards though, which meant replaying the same stage a bunch of times, other than that they were enjoyable, good special stages, 3D sections and bosses for the most part.

DS is one of the best consoles of all time. Such a rich library of software
Zelda were all glorious on it.
