I second that. Black was intense, short but really intense. BTW, I remember Black PS2 having the same visuals than the xbox. It was a really good looking game.

gaffyh5904d ago

Can't be Black 2, Criterion or EA will own the IP for that not the creator.

snaz275904d ago

i really wish devs could think outside the box a little, shooters are just the safe option! i want some proper horrors, like project zero or something, or just totally different.. I have my fill of shooters, tho i suppose if people want it, who am i to say they shouldnt have it.

Fishy Fingers5904d ago

It's a new IP, so not Black 2. Still good news.

raztad5904d ago (Edited 5904d ago )

@gaffyth

Think in DMC and Bayonetta. Same creator same playstyle. Even if Black is a EA owned IP its creator can "borrow" the gameplay from it.

@above

Sadly for some, the market is eating FPSes like crazy and I really doubt whatever the guy is working on is gonna be a 2010 release

@bellow

I do need to agree with you. KZ2 has that Black feeling in it. Black was much more about huge explosions and absolutely frenetic shooting though, magazine in magazine out, Black was a load of fun.

table5904d ago (Edited 5904d ago )

Killzone2 was basically just Black 2 anyway. Guerrilla took a lot of ideas from that game e.g. death animations, weapon design, level design. In particular, the sniper section in each game was strikingly similar.

FamilyGuy5904d ago

It was one of the best looking PS2 games that ever came out. I remember getting it around the same time as my first HD tv an it looked fantastic compared to the other games that I played on it that only looked slightly better. About time these guys put something on HD consoles.

Lemmiwinks5904d ago (Edited 5904d ago )

does any one know why they havent made a sequel.... black had one thing killzone 2 didnt decent destructablity balanced with quality graphics.

gaffyh5904d ago

@above - Cos EA is making Criterion work on the next Need for Speed game instead. :(

Blaster_Master5904d ago

These guys better put out something as good if not better then MAG or Battlefield to convince me to buy their next game.

Tony P5904d ago

Even though I don't like FPS that much as a genre, it's pretty easy to see Black was one of the best executed of that time.

Although I always wondered why end on a cliffhanger if they didn't intend to make a sequel?

silverbeld5904d ago

Black is back to business. Only this time PS3 exclusive! Ohh yeah.

HSx95904d ago

Hell yeah, I remember playing BLACK on the PS2 with my friends, that's what got me into FPS at the most, hopefully this one can compete with other FPS because I'm getting tired of playing that MW2 game.

pixelsword5903d ago (Edited 5903d ago )

I'd like to see them get one game right...

Hmmm...

Did they even make BLACK?

God almighty that throws up so many games xD

Inferno5904d ago

Is Black 2 too much to ask ?

BeaArthur5904d ago

I wasn't a huge fan of black. Just couldn't get into it.

Kyur4ThePain5904d ago

I thought it was brilliant. Not juts for the time, but in its own right.
I would kill for Black 2.

BeaArthur5904d ago

I would give a sequel a shot, I would just need more than the first one gave.

HighDefinition5904d ago

Is good news. I don`t know why this didn`t happen sooner.

Bloodborne is a game I still restart and play every few months. I would welcome just a re release in 60fps with a visual upgrade. It's a perfect game. If I was king for a day I would include the randomizer mods because then it would be a kind of rogue like and I could play it forever.

danglyparts1077d ago

Sure, ill take a sequel to all of these.

a solid guns blazing casual single player experience

JTGA1294d ago

Hundred percent. Criterion deserve another shot at this.

moriarty18891294d ago

Would love to see a Black 2. This game was incredible when it came out. Played it a lot and enjoyed it immensely.

Relientk771294d ago

Black is an awesome shooter. It sucks we never got a sequel.

fan_of_gaming1294d ago

Great article, really insightful into the development process.

JTGA1294d ago

Dude, thank you so much for this. Really appreciate the positivity!

banger881294d ago

Bodycount was sort of a spiritual successor to Black, but nowhere near as good. I liked Black, but it was hard. I never managed to beat it.

JTGA1294d ago

Yeah I agree. Bodycount being deemed a "spiritual successor" always felt like an attempt to capitalise on the goodwill towards Black.

The Burnout team’s mold-breaking FPS deserves a better legacy

Polygon: Game designers face a great challenge: How can they demonstrate that a player’s basic actions are meaningful?

The developers of a game have to reinforce why each action is important, especially if I’m going to be repeating it thousands of times across the campaign. This is true whether I’m picking a flower or pulling the trigger of a gun.

It’s worth revisiting Black.

UltraNova2577d ago

So glad someone took the time to revisit this absolute gem of FPS...this game blew my face off back in the day. The enemy behavior, sound design, particle effects and general atmosphere was something short of a revelation at the time. This is perhaps my second favorite FPS title of all time and a close 2nd to Killzone 2.

Omnisonne2577d ago

I still remember the distinct metallic sound when shooting someones helmet off in Black, also the atmospheric lighting (something very new back then). So glad I picked it up when it released.

isarai2577d ago

To this day that game is more satisfying than most FPSs out there. Still blown away by the way it handled explosions and they their effectiveness is actually affected by rather they are indoors or outdoors (more lethal in enclosed spaces) and that if it's thrown into a small room with doors/windows the pressure wave will actually cause all windows and doors in that room to break and the explosion would actually expand out those openings

Omnisonne2577d ago

Damn I totally forgot about the destruction, tons of little details that made the game just really fun to play.

RosweeSon2577d ago

Deserves a sequel where many yearly churns don’t.

UltraNova2576d ago

Thanks to EA the team that made this gem was dissolved, so unless most of them team up under a new wing (or form their own studio) to make a spiritual successor to Black you should forget about a sequel.
