Destructoid Review: Heavy Rain

Ultimately, Heavy Rain is an experiment that both succeeded and failed, when it could easily have been a total success if the brains behind it weren't trying so hard to be smart, and cared more about providing a sensible plot as opposed to a shocking one. As a game, Heavy Rain is pretty good for the most part. Heavy Rain is just damn lucky it isn't the movie that it wishes so badly to be.

HAHAHAHAH
this game gets 10's and 9's all over the web
and Destructoid gives it a 7
lol
i saw this one coming

marinelife95953d ago

Yep you and me both captain-obvious. Destructoid was destined to go no higher than a seven.

mint royale5953d ago (Edited 5953d ago )

I cannot disagree with this review beacuse I have not played and 7 is still a very good score but I should think it may deserve abit more.

FamilyGuy5953d ago

I'm POSITIVE there are PLENTY of movies with stories/a plot that doesn't stack up to this games. Why (basically) call it a bad movie? What's wrong with suspenseful thrillers?

marinelife95953d ago

Destructoid, Games Radar, Eurogamer, and Edge scores will usually be lower on PS3 exclusives.

Ravage275953d ago

"Heavy Rain is just damn lucky it isn't the movie that it wishes so badly to be."

ok.....

there will be some wildly differing opinions coming up in the next few days, that's the sort of game HeavyRain is. That is also why it will not remain above 90 meta average, sigh~

mint royale5953d ago

'Destructoid, Games Radar, Eurogamer, and Edge scores will usually be lower on PS3 exclusives.'

Okay i'll sure to be on my toes for the big bad reviewers ;)

BYE5953d ago (Edited 5953d ago )

Destructoid is getting predictable.

I knew that Jim Sterling was gonna give the game no more than a 7 when they announced he's doing the review...

deadreckoning6665953d ago (Edited 5953d ago )

"Destructoid, Games Radar, Eurogamer, and Edge scores will usually be lower on PS3 exclusives."

Eurogamer gave Heavy Rain a 9. What are you talking about? Destructoid isn't biased, they just don't cater to your religion that every hyped up PS3 exclusive MUST get a 9+ score. Destructoid gave Killzone 2, Uncharted 2, and MGS4 9+ scores so ur opinion makes no sense. Btw, if u guys don't like Destructoid, WHY-DO-KEEP-LOOKING????
When will u people understand that not everyone likes the SAME things.

"I think I'm going to have to respectfully disagree with this review"

Of course, because uve played through the ENTIRE game already right?

Megaton5953d ago

Didn't they just do an article last week about why Heavy Rain fails? Preemptive strike.

Pennywise5953d ago

Whats disgusting is not the score... its the fact that out of 20+ HR reviews... THIS ONE makes the front page.

spongeboob5953d ago (Edited 5953d ago )

What do you expect from Jim Sterling, he is just like Michael McWhertor they hate on everything.

xTruthx5953d ago

I think everyone knew this was coming lol. Lets wait for edge review ^^

raztad5953d ago

To be honest Eurogamer.NET has been fair with PS3 only titles reviews. They are harsh but dont look blatantly biased. The same can NOT be said about EDGE regardless the score they have in store for HR.

One of the last sites I'll be trusting for a review is Destructoid. There is nothing to see here guys move on.

Bungie5953d ago

nice score

looking forward to play the game :)

Parapraxis5953d ago

Destructoid...as out of touch as usual.

Mr_Bun5953d ago

The only positive thing about you trolling the PS3 articles so much is that it gives me numerous chances to take your bubbles

Captain Tuttle5953d ago (Edited 5953d ago )

It makes the front page because of all of the butthurt in here. Every time someone posts in here to cry "bias!" it raises the heat. You people are your own worst enemies.

I can't say I agree or disagree since I haven't played the game and reviews are subjective anyway.

EDIT:
Another website is about to get blacklisted by Sony.

exnihilonihilfit5953d ago (Edited 5953d ago )

Said several times that he didn't like this game before it came out. He doesn't like the idea of the game. He wrote a whole article about how it's "a disservice to gaming" and let's not talk about he countless negative articles about he PS3 and it's games in the past. Jim Sterling is biased and anyone who knows anything about him could not trust his opinion. The bottom line, 7 isn't that bad of a score and the gaming community has gotten too used to 8's and 9's, but it's obvious the Jim was going to give the game a score less than what it deserves because of his history of comments on this subject.

There is no denying that Jim Sterling hates the PS3 and its games. Destructoid on the whole does seem to have it out for the PS3, largely due to his influence, and that they would give the game to him to review after he already wrote an article claiming it was "a disservice to gaming" well before he got his hands on it just goes to show how biased the whole publication is. Then again, PS3 gamers don't really bother with their reviews because we know their position long before hand. Not having PS3 fan traffic driven to their site, they only have to cater to bitter Xbox fans, hence all their negative PS3 coverage.

SilentNegotiator5953d ago (Edited 5953d ago )

Destructoid; Get teh hits, by any means necessary.

There are the 9s and 10s from websites judging the game based on what it set out to do, and then there are a couple sites giving it 7s for not being a first person shooter.

MmaFanQc5953d ago

the guy is an attention whore, he gave AC2 4.5/10 when ubisoft did a wonderfull job a fixing the first game mistakes.

hell....a good games with a great plot twist ending diserve at least a good 8.5 9/10

...but jim is jim....a big attention whore.

Now I understand why they released that article about HR a week ago, as soon as I saw this up I knew it was going to be lower than all other scores so far. Destructoid never fails to surprise.

Oh Destructoid :)

♫♫ Where has your integrity gone, loooong time passing ♫♫

cmrbe5953d ago

Where have all the good game journalist gone, long time ago.... lol!.

solidjun55953d ago

Figures. Like the Assassins creed 2 review, Destructoid must not like games. Expect a Jim Sterling article in the next week.

Anyway, how did you get the musical note here Tom?

Please stop comparing video games to movies

"Many video games catch not only great commercial attention but remarkable critical attention as well. We have seen games like Heavy Rain, The Last of Us Part II, and even entries in the Metal Gear series described as fantastic interactive experiences, even heralded in the same way as Hollywood's greatest films.

I would suggest that not only is this an unfair comparison but also a harmful one. Video games, by their very nature, are an intricately different medium and should be weighed against one another rather than another form of media," Phillip writes for GF365.

Yes, please stop. They're better than most hollywood drivel nowadays.

BLAKHOODe2022d ago

I think Hollywood films will becoming increasingly more like video games in the future, especially as the world embraces the "new normal" from the pandemic. It makes sense, as games like Spider-Man: Miles Morales showcase just how realistically we're reaching in graphical capabilities, as well as showcase extreme action sequences in spectacular ways. And as time goes by, it'll get easier and cheaper to produce such "art", as well as create new star "actors" that never age, never die, never complain, never gets involved in scandals, etc. Technology is amazing and we're only just getting a taste of what it'll eventually be.

sourOG2022d ago

No. Some games are like movies.

medman2022d ago (Edited 2022d ago )

No. For the money spent, a quality game provides far more entertainment value than a quality movie. Especially when looking at what is going on in the world, and how a studio can attempt to pilfer from consumers by charging 30 dollars for Mulan via streaming. Ridiculous. There is no comparison....games all day.
