Firefox 4.0 GUI Evolution – Get a Taste

Firefox 4.0, the next major release of Mozilla's open source browser, will bring to the table a major overhaul of its graphical user interface, one that would put the UI in line the Windows 7 Ribbon/Fluent style. Mozilla has already made public details on the revamping of the Firefox User interface for version 4.0, and various concepts and sketches have been already published. However, Firefox 4.0 developer Stephen Horlander has now offered two video demonstrations featuring Firefox 4.0's new GUI.

I prefer my tabs under the address bar, hopefully there is the option to change it.

Was about to say the same thing, I currently use Chrome, its got a nice design, and is apparently faster, Firefox will always have a place in my heart, and if it starts to look as good as chrome, I may have to go back to it ^_^

I prefer it the way it is now. What's gonna happen to Personas under this new design?

On the whole "Chrome vs. FireFox" thing, FireFox's add-on support is way too massive and useful for me to ever drop it.

mozilla is going to start using the chrome engine because of the tasking ....

ATi_Elite5891d ago

THe crowd is right this does look like chrome. gonna have to check it out
Chrome is too good for me to switch but IE64 is Fast
Safari Opera IE Mozilla look good in my icon collection

mythamp5890d ago

It will only eat up more of my resources, i dont need the glassy stuff, if it performs faster on my existing memory.

toaster5890d ago (Edited 5890d ago )

Chrome now supports GreaseMonkey. And Chrome also has extensions like Firefox, although not as many but there are still useful ones.

I was an avid FireFox user but once I found Chrome things have changed. My main browser is Chrome now. The interface is amazing and smooth. Ff 4.0 is basically a rework of FF to be more streamline and pleasant to the eye but Chrome has been doing that since release.

I see no reason for me to go back unless Firefox does something revolutionary.

lol Anyone still using Internet Exploder??

Kakkoii5890d ago

The "glassy" stuff is part of Windows 7's style. It's just how regular windows are rendered. If your still using Windows XP, then your Firefox 4 isn't going to have that glassy look. But it will still have the same layout for the most part.

Firefox wishes it was like Google Chrome...Why?

ZedoMann5891d ago

Not really, too basic for me.

Maybe Firefox hopes to draw in new users with an easy to use streamlined interface, and the experienced ones can change their interface how they like it.

skip2mylou5891d ago

u can still change it to the way it is currently. and its still better than chrome

stb5891d ago (Edited 5891d ago )

I recognize chrome for being so user friendly and its simplicity/speed is something that add up to chrome´s good, but Firefox even being a bloated piece of crashy software, still beating every browser out there , too tale to even touch firefox´s tail lol, at least if chrome would have all of these customization option then it would ´ve been of a win.

PopEmUp5890d ago

I don't think firefox is faster than Chrome obviously, and now since chrome had the extension and support ad block with most of the needed ad-on from the firefox, not only that chrome have a very sleek design interface. Don't get me wrong I still used firefox but I won't used it as much as before though

skip2mylou5890d ago

u guys complain about firefox speed but why dont u guys go into the config and then edit out some of the settings. thts what i did for mine and firefox is running faster then chrome because of it
