VGCHARTZ: Mass Effect 2 (X360) Review

Massive is starting to seem like too small a word for the scale of this trilogy.

It's amazing what difference two years can make in a franchise. Mass Effect has gone from a great game to an unforgettable one. However, this is mostly due to how incredibly well it built upon the decisions you made in the first game. Mass Effect 2's enjoyment is more dependent on playing its prequel than any game I have ever played. I strongly stress that most of the value from this game comes from playing this after playing Mass Effect with an imported character. The impact of the game's plot, characters, choices, and universe will be significantly less if you haven't played the original. If you haven't you'll enjoy the outstanding gameplay, but if you have, prepare for an experience of unmatched scale.

I think VGChartz is one of the most underrated websites for reviews. This is a great one.

Method5967d ago

Good reviews, terrible sales tracking.

Bubbles_Kitty_Cat5967d ago (Edited 5967d ago )

I'm 17 hours into the game and it just keeps getting more awesome as it goes along.

Mass Effect 2 is truly epic and in my opinion has no equal when it comes to storytelling.

A true 10/10 if there ever was one.

Traveler5967d ago

Yep, full 10 out of 10 from me. By far one of the best games of the generation.

TheIneffableBob5967d ago

Did you read the review? The writing is just average; nothing special.

DarkTower8055967d ago

@ Braineater2448, yeah they are VERY underrated for their reviews. I usually find their reviews very reasonable and fair.

@Method, can you please link me to a website where I can find better sales tracking than VGChartz?

Foxgod5966d ago

@above,
Good point, there is no better site for global stat tracking, Vgchartz are the best at what they do.

They are only 1 or 2 % off on their predictions, and they always update their stat tracking when the real numbers come out.

A Cupcake for Gabe5966d ago

Except for the really sh1tty driving, the first one was a 10 in my book. So no doubt this will be amazing.

This is really a great game. What class are you guys all playing as? Infiltrator here for my first playthrough.

Bubbles_Kitty_Cat5967d ago

I'm playing as a Vanguard the first time through, but I'm looking forward to trying the other classes out.

DelbertGrady5967d ago

Soldier Commando. First playthrough. Next I will be the Vanguard I think (if that's the one that uses destructive biotics powers).

Bro missing companions: Legion, Grunt, Samara/Morinth, Javik, EDI

anast540d ago

Legion, Zaeed, and Jack are my favorites.

RiseNShine540d ago

To think that Bioware at some point was capable of doing games like this, you see those characters and remember them like good old friends, and now check ME Andromeda, Anthem, Veilguard etc and wonder what the hell happened.

anast540d ago

They lost too much talent.

IAMRealHooman540d ago

some in andromeda are decent, I agree with peebee and Vetra being good companions. Except Liam he's trash tier

anast540d ago

Liam lol I can't stand that dude.

"I started playing games yesterday" the List... Meh!

How about a few RPGs that deserve some love instead?
1 - Alpha Protocol - Now on GOG
2 - else Heart.Break()
3 - Shadowrun Trilogy
4 - Wasteland 2
5 - UnderRail
6 - Tyranny
7 - Torment: Tides of Numenera

And for a bonus game that flew under the radar:
8 - Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden

Loved Alpha Protocol in all it's glorious jank. Great game.

SimpleSlave788d ago (Edited 788d ago )

Not only glorious jank, but the idea that the story can completely change depending on what you do, or say, or side with, makes it one of the most forward thinking games ever. The amount of story permutation is the equivalent of a Hitman level but in Story Form. And it wasn't just that the story changed, no, it was that you met completely new characters, or missed them, depending on your choices. Made Mass Effect feel static in comparison.

Alpha Protocol was absolutely glorious, indeed. And it was, and still is, more Next Gen than most anything out there these days. In this regard at least.

Pity.
