Crysis 2 Scans Revealed

German magazine PC Games featured a great spread on the upcoming processor-devouring Crysis 2. New York City looks better than ever and that new nano-armor isn't too shabby, either.

graphics are horrible in this game, too static looking

ChickeyCantor5957d ago

Yeah...images are usually static.

madpuppy5957d ago

These are obviously drawings, not game graphics.

darkmurder5957d ago

I love it when magazine scans appear and people make conclusions about the graphics (having said this you know Crysis' are going to be good).

WildArmed5957d ago

can't wait.
While I dont know what to expect from the console ports...
the PC is just going to be amazing. (judging from their past two installments)

Bring it on Crytek :D

Akagi5957d ago

It's either statics or the console version.

pangitkqb5957d ago

Have you played the original Crysis (and Crysis: Warhead) on a high end PC? These titles, the first being over two years old now, are still the absolute benchmark for visual fidelity. Just look at any Graphics card performance test and Crysis is the game always used as the final test. Why? Because it is so demanding and looks MINDBLOWING on maximum settings.

Condisering that Crysis is still the benchmark more than two years after release and ran on the old version of Crytek's engine, there is no good reason to assume that the newest installment, on an improved engine, isn't going to look fantastic, if not better.

As a major fan of the first installment (and the second), I am personally thrilled to get Crysis 2 on my brand new gaming PC.

jesuisankit5957d ago

It looks so awesome even in those scans.. this game is gonna set a benchmark again I believe.. Crytek FTW!!!

Bloodraid5957d ago

Lets just hope they're able to make decent AI this time through.

this game is gonna tear my computer a new one lol im most likely gonna have to pair my gpu to another 5870

SOAD5957d ago

A friend of mine says that Crysis was designed to take advantage of a bridge between two GPUs. By that he means, the game was designed for dual-GPU hardware.

Bodster5957d ago

Im hoping to have an extra 5770 by the time this comes out, i am doing a full upgrade of my CPU and mobo aswell :)

Erotic Sheep5957d ago

I recently got myself a new computer. In it the two videocards are crossfire connected (2x XFX ATI Radeon 4890) and it works like a beast, playing Crysis on ultra high settings with 60+ fps. This is why I hope the PC version won't be dumbed down due to the consoles because this PC is ready for Crysis 2..

Shaman5957d ago

Your friend is wrong. The games engine Cryengine 3 is designed to take advantage of each console and its the engine which will last till the end of this gen. Those kind of things which your friend said will be in their next gen engine,Cryengine 4,Cryenigne 3 is heavy optimized CE2 not next gen engine :) still it will be Crysis 2 graphics king on all 3 platforms

OpenGL5957d ago (Edited 5957d ago )

There is no chance that Crysis 2 will be the best looking title on the PS3, and it's also unlikely it'll be the best looking title for the 360.

The PC version on the other hand should look better than any game out on any platform. Crytek simply does not have the time or resources to optimize their title for consoles the way a developer like Naughty Dog or Bungie does, as they work exclusively on a single platform.

Digital Commando5957d ago

Crytek has plenty of resources, they have over 500 employees and a big budget from EA. I think they can reach their goals.

Tachyon_Nova5956d ago

Hey! You stole my picture.

I don't understand why so many people bag Crysis out when they so clearly haven't played it ey.

@ Digital Commando. While Crytek do have over 500 employees, I doubt they get a big budget from EA, as there only link with EA is publishing. They are not in any part owned by EA.

RamiHixxy5957d ago

This game still will not look better Killzone 2 in visual and graphics wise

madpuppy5957d ago

Personally, I think that every new game that comes out should have better graphics and gameplay than the last. My gaming life doesn't end with Killzone 2 and Uncharted 2.

Here's for hoping that this game blows away everything in the market visually and gameplay-wise so that the bar can be set even higher than what it is now.

ChickeyCantor5957d ago

This engine with a good artstyle will do great things.

Bolts5957d ago (Edited 5957d ago )

You couldn't be more wrong. Killzone 2 like any console games are optimized to look good in certain areas only while making a trade off else where like environmental textures. Crysis 2 being a PC game does no such thing. I just hope the gameplay will be more focused like Warhead and not like the original Crysis.

Erotic Sheep5957d ago

I'm sorry to say this, but after getting a new PC which is able to run Crysis on ultra high settings.. KZ2 doesn't stand a chance.

pangitkqb5957d ago

As owner of Crysis AND Killzone 2, I must say that Crysis simply wins. Killzone is stunning, but also locked at 720p and cannot be visually altered in anyway. PS3 hardware is solid, but static. In other words, they all have the same processing specs.

My gaming PC, on the other hand, lets me put every single Crysis setting on Maximum. Imagine it this way. You put Killzone 2 in a "special" PS3 that lets you 1)Double its Resolution, 2) increase texture quality, 3) improve shadow quality, 4)increase draw distance, 5)triple the Anti-aliasing quality, and so much more. Killzone 2, which already looks great, is going to suddenly look even better!

By default, Crysis, on a high end rig, with its incredible base quality then maxed on highest settings, is still king.

Now I'm starting to wish Killzone was available on PC! Better go turn on my PS3 and kill some Hellgans.

hoops5957d ago

I assume you mean the console version of Crysis 2. The PC version unless they gimp it will blow away KZ2 as Crysis and Crysis Warhead did. Btw. If Crysis 2 even on the consoles has the same type of destruction for enviroment, then you cannot compare KZ2 to Crysis 2

DeathMetal5957d ago

crysis destroys uncharted and killzone, i love how ps3 fanboys think the PS3 can beat a PC. Give it up with you 4 generation old video tech LOL

tudors5957d ago

people go way over board with the Killzone looks, yes it has very good graphics but people response to it surely must tell you it is not as good as people make out, Gears of War 2 was just as impressive IMO, the best thing about Killzone 2 is the physics, granted there are a lot of effects but the textures in the enviroment leave a lot to be desired, good but not that good.

heroprotagonist5957d ago

I know what you mean. Killzone 2 was kind of a mixed bag. Some things looked great and other things looked poor. All in all it was a nice looking game, but not really any nicer than games like Gears of War 2 or Uncharted 2. And still far from Crysis on a powerful gaming rig.

Blackcanary5957d ago

GEOW 2 and KZ2 looked better than that game.

But this game will end up kicking KZ2 AND GEOW2 up the ass when it comes to graphics.

Can't wait for this game.

I'm still learning how to look for the differences. At first I was focusing on shadows for some reason but I don't think that changes much, is it reflections that change?

rashada072527d ago (Edited 2527d ago )

It is supposed to be simulating how light actually works- so yes if light is reflecting off a surface accurately it should show reflection or an effect that matches what you are looking at in the environment. Next time you play a game look at a puddle of water there may be just a "baked" in texture that if you aren't paying attention seems like it is reflecting but it isn't. I would say though if the light is reflecting more accurately I would think that would give more accurate shadows as well.
I am still not 100% sold on it- it looks okay but I can't get over the hardware price jump for better reflections..

Taz X142527d ago

While games won't look immensely better, it opens up more possibilities overall. Understandably, the price jump is huge. But, that can be said for being at the forefront for any new technology. I'm currently using a 2080ti and while I've played a few games that enable it, the gpu also plays everything else incredibly well so it's not like you're buying this tech for ONLY that option. Enthusiasts will pay top dollar to check out the newest things, but this will eventually become an everyday consumer and by then they'll have optimized and become a lot cheaper.

warriorcase2526d ago

Ray/path tracing can be used how the developer wants it to be. Tracing can be used to calculate shadows/lighting, reflection and even audio, where audio waves are calculated on the bounce off material types to simulate enviroment and echos accuratly.

Should also keep in mind that this ray/path tracing system is different and less accurate option from Nvidias RTX branded type. McFly's is a reshade that layers over the top of the game and therefor the quality will vary drastically. For example you can see nice reflection in the Star Wars demo here but it then introduces colour clipping with the light saber. On a video of GTA 5 for example it was incorrectly projecting a reflection of a red car onto the road which caused a very faint red glow on the ground around the car.

If you want to see a good example of a game developed with ray tracing reflection and lighting in mind then you could look up the youtube video of "Control - Exclusive E3 RTX GAMEPLAY Trailer".

DigitallyAfflicted2527d ago

It supposed to add more realistic light Not actually more light effects and explosions

traumadisaster2527d ago

I hate to say it but I’m fine with fake lights, shadows, reflections. I just kind of like the effect, it’s also great it saves resources for other things.

I’ve been checking out some original Xbox games on x360/x1x and the engine has fake light streaming in through a stained glass window, and I love it even though I know it’s not real time lighting. Heck it even shifts as I move about.

I’ve about convinced my self rt and hdr just doesn’t work for me. Before hdr I would even complain damn why are the headlights killing me they are so bright.

I notice most frame rate, then jaggies, then resolution; with the last two interchangeable depending.

Other day watched an enthusiast rave over 4k and the poor guy was in 1080p. I played the same game the night before and thought wow this is clean, I wonder if it’s 4k, but knew differently and I thought wow even resolution is not always important. The next day he apologized and was surprised he could be fooled.

RaidenBlack2526d ago

EA should have released the Crysis Trilogy Remaster for this gen.

FGHFGHFGH2521d ago

How come the lightsabers don't give off any light? Even in the EA star wars game the guy uses it to light up a dark cave. I guess if it is using frostbite it will support rtx cards.
