BioWare: Mass Effect 2 will sell 360 hardware

Mass Effect 2 is a "good opportunity" for non-360 owners to pick up a console, says BioWare boss Ray Muzyka.

Speaking to CVG in London this afternoon, the GM of EA's RPG/MMO group said BioWare intends for every one of its games to end up a system seller.

Agreed. Especially when my Sony Vaio version is superior.

EDIT: Isn't the PC version superior? Did I lie? The truth hurts fanboys I guess.

Guido5960d ago

Sorry, but while this is a great game and I love it on my PC as well, it is not a system seller. It's not Call of Duty for god sakes.

Sarcasm5960d ago

I'm not so sure about you guys, but if I didn't have a 360. This is one of the only game series I'd buy a 360 for. Gears of War is the other series.

UNCyrus5960d ago

This doesn't make any sense to me. Mass Effect 1 was released on the 360. Now the sequel is being released on the same console and they're expecting this to move hardware? Everyone that played the original and wants to play the second already has a 360.

Meh...

Christopher5960d ago

If it was a system seller, then Microsoft would have created a bundle deal out of it.

gaffyh5960d ago

I can see it shifting slightly more 360's, but I don't see it as a huge system seller. At the end of the day, this is still a game that doesn't appeal to everyone. Shooter fans may hate it due to the RPG aspect, RPG fans may hate it due to the shooting aspect. However, there's still a decent amount of people (I expect ~3 million lifetime sales) who will love it.

ME2 is fantastic, if anyone has a 360 or a PC that is capable of running it, definitely get it.

ubiquitious5960d ago

Mass Effect 2 is the mother******* game of the year! Obviously it is seling systems.

Great job Bioware! Maybe you guys can lend Zipper a hand and we could have competing exclusives in 2 years! Great time to be a gamer:)

JasonPC360PS3Wii5960d ago

I'm sure if You PS3 fanboys say it enough it may come true... in your minds. Now in the real wold games are system sellers by default and GOTY games like Mass Effect 2 is just extra icing on the cake. Great reviews, critical acclaim, and extreme hype alone is enough to push many consoles and PC's with Windows. I know you guys are hurting inside with the great praise this game is getting and all the floppage reviews for MAG.

ryuzu5960d ago

There are better reasons to get a 360 than this... um.. Well alright, the other reasons aren't great either - Halo may be?

I don't know - if you're too slow to use a PC, then 360 is a good way to get gears and CoD, but ME2... hmmm I feel less keen on it now than I did in the first few mins of playing it.

It's just a corridor shooter isn't it? Am I missing something - the RP parts seem to be toned down and unimportant, there's little in the way of exploration, the environments are small and empty and the dialog, while passable does get a bit tedious.

Then there's the graphics :/ Not great.

I think Bioware need to concentrate on their strengths - proper, deep Western RPGs and not try and pander to Epic's TPS audience.

If they don't then Bethesda will only continue to dominate the wRPG arena.

r.

Harry_Manback5960d ago

I'm about 10 hrs into it, and its a very immersive experience. System seller? Maybe...
Its the first game I've bought for my 360 since Gears 2.

Montrealien5960d ago (Edited 5960d ago )

*looks at the first comments*

*yawn*

Same old same old. Anonymous N4G multiple accounts, downplaying a game, on a system they don`t like. shocking.

And I thought this was funny since I have sold a few 360 with ME2 in the last few days, but what do I know right? Not like reality has any value here on N4G. Infact, I also solde a PS3 with a copy of MaG just 20 minutes ago...

Is Me2 a system seller? Yes.

is MaG a system Seller? yes.

Will normal people who like videogames and have not taken the plunge with the latest consoles yet buy a console because a certain game caught there eye?

yes.

lowcarb5960d ago

So I guess it's safe to say nobody will be purchasing a PS3 for Uc2,kz3, or rfom3.

macezhno5960d ago

i would rather spend 700 to up to 1500 make my PC than paying 200 for that juke hardware.

Elven65960d ago

To the average consumer, they probably won't be building gaming PC's to max out the game. They might go over to a friends house, see the game in action, and decide to get it for a 360.

I don't know if Mass Effect 2 is going to be a huge system seller, only NPD, ChartTrack, etc will tell.

bacon135960d ago

I think ME2 will absolutely move some 360s out the door. I don't think it will be the system seller like Gears or Dead Rising back in the day. It truly is a fantastic game, I wish I had more time for it though.

Rockox5960d ago

Love the avatar, man. "Somebody wake up Hicks!" :P

Guido5960d ago

"I know you guys are hurting inside with the great praise this game is getting and all the floppage reviews for MAG."

Yes, because we all know that when a game hits 80% on Metacritic, it is considered a flop... Really now, you don't have to bring up a great online game like MAG to defend the PC exclusive, Mass Effect 2. Oh wait, it's on the 360 too... Sorry, forgot.

mugoldeneagle035960d ago

But I've yet to buy a 360 yet. I'm definitely interested in Mass Effect 2 (and the first one), but I'm not going to throw down for just 1 game. I'd probably play Gears as well, but that's about it.

I am interested in Alan Wake though, and the potential of Natal, but a lot of it has yet to sell me on anything, and it's going to be a hard sell this late into the consoles lifespan.

Shepherd 2145960d ago

Oh yea, the PC version is usually better. Kinda like how the PC exclusive Crysis was a better FPS both graphically and gameplay wise than a game that came out 2 years later, called Killzone 2. =)

Mass Effect 2 is a system seller, btw. Its a big improvement over the original, and its one of the best games this gen.

gaffyh5960d ago

@1.20 - Wow that is the dumbest comment I've ever seen, well the first part of it.

97gsx5960d ago

I honestly do not understand what is so special about the 360. My 360 is a year old and freezing up every 30 mins. I only bought this for the xbox because I wanted to use my old save. From now on ps3 and pc first. Here is my gamertag if anyone doesn't believe me

Suddenly all ps3 lovers have become owners of uber pcs. Unbelievable since the pc only news gets 4-5 comments and hardly reaches 100 degs. Care to share your 3dMark 06 scores?

Even with my above avg PC with EAH5870 i will still play ME2 and BC2 on 360 hooked to the 50" 1080p plasma while laying on the couch. even if i hook up the pc to hdmi of the tv i will not like to hold the k/b mouse and play games as i'm not used to it anymore.

btw my 3dmark 06 score

edit: @cliffo yes ps3 might look like ferrari but under the hood ps3 has pong balls instead of pistons.
haha look at the droids coming out saying they will play on pcs only here on n4g when in reality they are still using 486dx2 systems with monochorome monitors in their mom's basement.

Look at any exclusive pc news and you can count the number of coments on one hand yet in 360/pc exclusive topic the fkin droids suddenly become owners of uber pcs. I thought with ps3 you dont need a pc cuz it "teh supacomputa"...

ANyone of you droids care to share your 3Dmark06 results? Mines below but i still prefer playing on 360 on my 50" 1080p plasma

ME2 IS a system seller. My brother and I are both going to buy 360 because of ME2. Well not only ME2, but that is the game that pushed us over the edge.

Also, most people like console gaming, not PC gaming. It's sad that some fanboys refuse to buy something that can bring enjoyment into their lives.

SaberEdge5960d ago

How can some people be so dumb? I mean, being a fanboy is one thing, but it shouldn't lower your IQ to that of a labotamized lab rat.

Every game is a system seller to one degree or another. Every title, no matter how average its scores, will push somebody over the edge to get a console. The only question is how many consoles will a game help sell.

So, this idea that a game is 'either a system seller or its not' is a comletely erroneous way of looking at things.

Of course Mass Effect 2 will help sell more 360s, it is one of the biggest games of the year.

The people saying that Mass Effect 2 will not move consoles because everybody that bought Mass Effect 1 will already have a 360 are particularly hilarious. The idea is absurd because there are likely many people out there that were interested in the first Mass Effect, but it never pushed them over the line to actually buy the console.
Or maybe there were a bunch of other 360 games that somebody was interested in and Mass Effect 1 and Mass Effect 2 finally makes up their mind for them.

Mass Effect 2 could be the tipping point for a lot of people. Or it might be that one game that alone is enough to make somebody go out and buy a 360.

WildArmed5960d ago

although the game is one of the best in '10, I dont htink it'll push any systems (unless someone is upgrading to a new 360 or the old one was broken for ME2)

Most of the game's fans are have a way of playing ME2. Plus, it's not a game that appeals to everyone/alot of people like GTA 4..
It's kinda like Uncharted 2 in that sense, it's not a system selller, but a great game indeed

ColinZeal5960d ago

I got my Xbox 360 Elite just for this game... It IS a system seller like it or not. But PS3 will be my prio number one for future games.

Greywulf5960d ago (Edited 5960d ago )

I mean, you guys pretend the specifications for multiplatforms is demanding. They aren't. For Crysis, yes. For Arma2, yes. For Shattered Horizon, yes. for...

For ME1/Gears1/l4d/hl2/most multiplats...no, not at all.

Its odd that you imagine a 360 arcade console without a HDD, is running a game that requires 4000,0000 dollar machines. Boggles the mind.

You don't need 3dmark scores to know a 5 year old station running HL2 in its prime, can still run it today in higher resolution and performance than its console counterparts. Very few engines use todays state of the art technology, and none are multiplatform games.

The 360's hardware hasn't changed in 5 years, why on earth do you think you need to upgrade now? Sure, pretending people don't own PC's is 1 thing, but pretending you need state of the art tech to run these multiplats is a complete joke.

The reason no one talks in the PC side of the site, is because n4g is a mainly console user site. Its the laughing stock of most communities like neogaf and others.

Most PC exclusives are also 360 exclusives. Which is why PC/PS3 users are in the story.

Cant wait to pickup me2.

SaberEdge5960d ago

I don't believe even half of you PS3 fanboys really have PCs. Sorry, I don't.

And for people without a 360 or a PC I guarantee that many people will opt for the more affordable console over the more costly gaming PC.
Lots of people use a family computer that is shared among all the members of the family and can't be taken over for gaming. Other people use laptops or netbooks to get on the internet. Some people have desktop PCs but they are outdated and would make horrible gaming PCs. Even those that have PCs with adequate specs may not want to have the computer they use for internet and business be used for gaming. And finally, building a decent PC rig yourself is going to cost you around $600 or $700.

I know the thought of somebody buying a 360 hurts some of your feelings, but nevertheless many people will choose to buy a 360 for Mass Effect 2.

edgeofblade5960d ago

@Troll_Police: Ignoring you has been a long time coming, but it's good that I don't have to listen to your undeniably biased rants any more. If only I could extract compensation from you for the brain cells you've killed.

Anyway, ME2 isn't a system seller. Why would you call a sequel that lets you import data from the first game on the same system a system seller. In fact, I'm afraid of the opposite. I'm afraid that ME2 won't get as much exposure because there are people who inevitably haven't played it.

Taker_1295960d ago

Mass Effect is definitely a System Seller. How could it not be?

starchild5960d ago

Of course it's a system seller. There are certainly people out there that have never even heard of Mass Effect and now that Mass Effect 2 is getting all these great scores and so much media attention they will decide it is a game they have to have. They will probably just buy the first Mass Effect along with it.

Tinted Eyes5960d ago

Yeah sure this will be a system seller. just like the first one *rolls eyes*

darthv725960d ago (Edited 5960d ago )

cgoodno: "If it was a system seller, then Microsoft would have created a bundle deal out of it."

Sorry but that seems to be what sony does to try and spark sales. MGS4, FF13, KZ2, Infamous, Uncharted....

MS may bundle a few games but when sony does it with the heavy hitters...looks like desperation to me.

gaffyh5960d ago (Edited 5960d ago )

@SaberEdge - How would they post if they didn't have a PC? I know you can do it from a PS3, but almost everyone has a PC now. If they can afford a PS3, they can afford a PC, you can get a very good PC cheaper than you could get a PS3 in fact.

Anyway, I have a good PC (9600GT, Quad-core), but I still got ME2 on 360, because I got the first one on 360 (cos it came out first) and carried the save over. Still, you guys always ignore the fact that there is something that exists called a "PC-ONLY gamer," or are they automatically PS3 fanboys because they want a game for PC? What about people like me who prefer certain games on PC because they play better? e.g. every FPS ever made. I would have got MW2 for PC if it wasn't so cheap at launch for PS3, and I couldn't pass up the chance for the trophies. Or Deus Ex 3, most likely I'll get that on PC, because I've played both previous games on PC, and it just feels right to me. If I can get it cheap/earlier for 360, I'll get it for 360.

I like how you guys call others fanboys, yet you yourselves can't admit that people play games on PC. "OMG PCs are a myth!!". It's not that expensive to buy a good PC nowadays, you guys are living in the past or something if you think they are extremely expensive.

edit: perfect example http://www.misco.co.uk/appl...

^Now that's a damn good PC, pretty high spec, and that price is super cheap.

NewZealander5960d ago

it will sell consoles, maybe not a huge amount but it will sell some, the first game was cool but ME2 is one of those rare games that people who dont own a 360 will pick one up just to play it.

N4BmpS5960d ago

I see people calling ME2 game of the year; granted the game looks fantastic, be for real with yourself it is waaaaay to early in 2010 to call it game of the year. If/when you remember by November and December and you're still talking about how awesome it is call it GOTY. Back to the topic, it could probably sell a small number of consoles nothing uber high; 500,000 consoles won't sell because of ME2

Sheikh Yerbouti5960d ago

it is the only game that is making me get a 360.

Morgue5960d ago

I thought only Halo sold hardware? Or was it Mountain Dew, no Taco Bell, $50 million payouts? I'm confused.....

hoops5960d ago

It os true that the PC version is superior...like 99% of multiplatform games this generation on the PC....
Now do you buy the "superior PC version of a multiplatform game over the PS3 version?
LMFAO....You are too funny

Red Panda5960d ago

I bought it for pc instead of the 360 version(plus mine broke AGAIN). With a game like this you gotta go pc. Red panda vanish.......

mcnablejr5960d ago

last time i checked its still world of warcraft.

cant that run on like the worst pc?

SaberEdge5960d ago

No, the PC does count and real PC gamers will enjoy this great game. It's just that all these fake PS3 fanboy pretending to own gaming PCs will not enjoy it.

ATi_Elite5960d ago

Sorry but I can careless about Mass Effect 2.

By Pc standards it's a weak game using an old graphics engine and doesn't make use of the many benefits and advantages of the PC. I'm currently playing MODS with better graphics than this. It's a straight 360 port not worthy of my PC's power.

If I play it it will be bought on a STEAM weekend special for $5.

Installing ARMA II A.C.E. MOD2
I Got STALKER Call Of Pripyat Directx 11 to play on February 2
then Battlefield Bad Company 2 "Pc exclusive build" Directx 11 March 2

Don't get me wrong Mass Effect 2 should be bought by every BOT with a working 360 because it's a good game(not like you got anything else to play). For PC gamers a 360 port is never a must have but definitely a $5 STEAM special or $19.99 for that matter.

If Bioware was smart they would have made a crappy PS3 version like every other 3rd party developer and patched it later.

5960d ago
hard joe5960d ago

bioware should be able to make a better version for ps3
just like the case with dragon age origins

ChrisW5960d ago

MetalGearRising,

I've always tolerated and sometimes laughed at you're retardation towards the PS3... But attacking the PC the way you did was appalling! I'm completely blown away, I would've bought a 360 for this game, This game is SICK. There's just so much depth in this game.

Sarcasm5960d ago

AGREED. The graphics shows how much left there is in the 360. It makes you wonder why other 360 games don't push the bar. Because 360 developers aren't as passionate as Bioware are with their work. Right now ME2 is EASILY one of the top games in recent memory. The level of polish is amazing.

PLAYSTATIONGENRATION5960d ago

Does not sell games to the casual market/mass market...U would and hardcore gamers would buy a 360 for this game but it simply does not have mass appeal ..( I love it btw)

BeaArthur5960d ago

I would say yes although everyone who would buy a system for ME2 would be missing out on the original and would probably not have as great of an experience. I think it says something that ME2 is currently the highest rated 360 exclusive, so make what you will out of that.

ProjectVulcan5960d ago

Really great game, but sequel to an already well known great game on 360. So minimal hardware sales impact i suspect. I have it on Pc and it really runs and looks a dream. Make sure you get on the latest driver for nvidia, or pick up the nhancer profile:

DustMan779d ago

Loved Alpha Protocol in all it's glorious jank. Great game.

SimpleSlave779d ago (Edited 779d ago )

Not only glorious jank, but the idea that the story can completely change depending on what you do, or say, or side with, makes it one of the most forward thinking games ever. The amount of story permutation is the equivalent of a Hitman level but in Story Form. And it wasn't just that the story changed, no, it was that you met completely new characters, or missed them, depending on your choices. Made Mass Effect feel static in comparison.

Alpha Protocol was absolutely glorious, indeed. And it was, and still is, more Next Gen than most anything out there these days. In this regard at least.

Pity.
