Phantasy Star Universe, after three years of players fighting various creates on a distant planet is dis discontinuing its online service. According to Sega the servers will be shut down permanently on the 31st of March, 2010.

Does anyone still play this? <.<

Rush5963d ago

I did like 6 months back it was a horrible process to cancel your subscription on the 360. Am sort of glad there going stops any more unfortunate souls having to spend hours on the phone to Microsoft/Sega.

I'm really confused by this article. So Sega is shutting down the servers for Phantasy Star Universe, but the Xbox 360 version will still be online and updated regularly?

Double Toasted5963d ago

is a money making machine, so me thinks Sega wants money...I don't want to here that crap about Sega not getting any money from that and if so...prove it. BTW, the last part of my statement wasn't directed to you specifically...

NexGen5963d ago

Yes, the 360 servers are staying up with no plans of shutdown "anytime soon" according to Sega. The pc/ps2 server (they play together) is what is shutting down. The news was broken about a week ago, both here, as well as on www.phantasystaruniverse.com

Blaster_Master5963d ago

I wish they would make phantasy star online instead of universe. PSO combat was alot better IMHO.

Arnon5963d ago (Edited 5963d ago )

Agreed. You can actually play Phantasy Star Online Blue Burst (Episode 4) for free on PC. There's a guy who is actually hosting dedicated servers, and they're all free to play.

Pretty awesome stuff.

TheObserver5963d ago

I played this on PC, fun while it lasted but not enough depth to the game to keep you playing for a long time. I would say its hack and slash online if you need a generalization.

Can't There Be a Good Xbox MMO?

VGU.TV's Andrew Nino explores the sad legacy of MMO attempts on the Xbox and Xbox 360, and why massively multiplayer gameplay has had such a hard time getting by on Microsoft consoles.

Chrono4833d ago

MMOs and consoles aren't good friends.

kratos1234833d ago

DCUO is pretty good in my opinion and you can see that the devolpers are quit happy with what they have build on the ps3.

ab5olut10n4833d ago

i think it's just difficult to do mmo's on consoles in general

wwm0nkey4833d ago

PSO2, TERA, Defiance(is coming to 360) and maybe Elder Scrolls Online will work since it only has 5 action buttons.

Seriously though PSO2 and TERA need to come to PS3/360 or next gen systems at least.

InMyOpinion4833d ago

I have been wondering that all this gen.

Still amazed why they didn't create an MMO game where you play as your avatar. Give the accessories you can buy attributes etc.

Dammit I was looking forward to True Fantasy Online back with the old box. Shed a tear when it got cancelled. It was to be my jump into the MMO arena. Sigh : (

The article talks about most of the games pretty quickly and then all of a sudden STAR WARS. STAR WARS EVERYWHERE.

Why is there no mention of Diablo 3?

kirbyu4873d ago

The only thing I don't like about SMB2 is the controls for picking up stuff is confusing.

kirbyu4872d ago

Also, Doki Doki Panic is a Nintendo game. So SMB2 isn't a copy, it's a localization.

Goodbye to a game that gave me quite a few memories. I met some people on PSU that I still play with today. Always sad to see a game go..... Thank you Phantasy Star Universe.

Griffin48714988d ago

Was a good game, and it should have been treated much better than Sega did.

Never played any phantasy star game but it seems as though I'm missing out.
