Guild Wars Releases Preliminary Skill Update Notes

No, they are not nerfing Shadow Form. Yet. But Guild Wars community manager Regina Buenaobra released a preview of some skill updates and updated GvG restrictions that are coming. Since they'll be released shortly before a Monthly Automated Tournament, and affect PvP heavily, the preview is being offered to give players a chance to plan for the changes. Regina does note, however, that these are preliminary notes, and subject to change.

Haven't played Guild Wars in ages. Nice to see NCSoft still supports the older games even when GW2 is their next big thing.

Christopher_Walken5881d ago

I still play it quite often. Alliance Battles are the best part of it I think.

meh. worst move they made was splitting pve and pvp skills. i just /age farm now. haha. i don't have the heart or the time to 600/smite

Alliance Battles and Dungeons are definitely where it is at right now. The addition of Dhuum has also greatly boosted interest in UW again. I have mixed feelings about splitting pve and pvp skills, but I still think it has had an overall positive effect. I mean, if they reduced the skills to what they are in pvp, a lot of the meta builds will be broken, which could cause a lot of anger amongst the community. I especially do not want to think of how to tackle elite areas where it previously took 2hrs+ just to complete 1 zone.

I really wonder if they will address Shadow Form and the huge amount of speed clear teams...although it has caused easy profits for people with "no skill," I am afraid to think about what will happen to the overall populous once a popular thing gets nerfed badly. Taken Ursan teams for example: after the nerf, Domain of Anguish became dead and no one ever does it now. Guess we'll have to find out sooner or later >.>

I played the first beta of GW1 way back in May 2004, still playing it sometimes today, now I'm mostly in GW2. I will definitely go back in GW on Dec. 3 to see the improvements 😎

Sweet =) I hope that you (and others) will have a great time with this one.

Put it on console and I’ll play it again. I’d didn’t do much of the endgame stuff it any at all (it’s been so long I don’t remember what I did besides level up) Since it has controller support it would be perfect for console

TGG_overlord103d ago

That sounds like a good idea imo, but I don't know if the devs have such plans. Maybe if this one turns out really well for PC, they might go down that road.

Michiel1989104d ago

no fucking way. I really hope that they give "new" servers, so not every new player starts playing when the veterans literally have endless piles of gold (platinum in this case) and honestly as a veteran I want a reset as well. I can't believe this is actually happening. Pleaseeeeeeeeeee be good. Christmas comes early this year

TGG_overlord103d ago

I don't recall that the devs have said anything about the matter as of yet, but we shall soon find out since the drop shall be done this December 3rd.

Michiel1989103d ago

Yeah looked around a bit and there is no reset or alternative sadly. I'm still super excited though also because they said that they will continue with some kind of updates (it's probably not content updates). Was planning to play some again in february but that will become december

mkis007103d ago

Here's hoping gw2 gets some enhancements soon. I want better draw distances.

TGG_overlord103d ago

I bet that's coming as well ;)

I loved GuildWars.. back in the the day I would play this countless hours.. I was young and didn’t want to pay for a subscription like WoW.. My friends were stuck playing RuneScape and I thought this was next level content.

I play most my games on console now.. so I kind of wished they could bring GW2 to it. I haven’t played that game in years either.

20 Years Ago, Guild Wars Made a Promise That it Still Hasn't Broken Today

After 20 years of ongoing service, the original Guild Wars still makes good on a promise it made that no other MMORPG has been able to truly mimic.

Been there since day 1, and the first beta, same with GW2. 20 years and they never said oh now we need to charge a monthly fee, and they only made Guild Wars no other games. I'm going to assume GW3 will have the same business model.

I got to 50 I believe but never got into it very much.It was fun but all of my friends were still playing EQ. Good to see it’s still going though.
