Abilities in Mass Effect 2 Have Shorter Cooldowns

Softpedia writes: "It's now less than one week to the launch of Mass Effect 2, the first big role playing experience of 2010. The title developed by BioWare and published by Electronic Arts will be bigger and better in every way than the first installment in the series and some of the biggest changes will affect combat. It seems that biotic users might be the ones to benefit the most from the changes."

i just got into mass effect after owning it for 1 year. I thought it was boring at first so i stopped playing, just this past week i gave it another go and realized what i was missing on its a great game. I just gotta finish it and mass effect 2 is just around the corner.

kneon5970d ago (Edited 5970d ago )

and I found it boring at first as well. It's a bit better now that I'm a further along but it's an extremely annoying game. When I die in combat do I really need to go through the same 5 minute conversation every time? I really hate the combat system so I die a fair bit and having to go through the same dialog over and over is really aggravating.

After I finished my first playthrough I found these concerns just "went away." The combat is fine, it is fairly stiff but you learn to deal. Conversations can be fast forwarded by pressing a button too.

gamingisnotacrime5970d ago (Edited 5970d ago )

The combat is pretty much broken. I was getting killed a lot because when the action picked up, the frame rate would drop drastically and aiming was a chore, while the enemy was hitting me i was struggling with the frame rate.
And even with that i think the game is great, and i know Bioware improve its shortcomings in ME2, so ME2 will blow us away

kneon5970d ago

I know I can fast forward, and I do it every time. but it's still annoying as there are still way too many key presses needed to get through a long conversation. Or is there a skip to the end button that I'm not aware of?

GameOn5970d ago

I never found slowdown to be a problem with ME. Sucks to be you I guess.

I don't know but I always feel like RPG = hack&slash! just like how I can't digest Borderlands! and the more I see the gameplay videos of this game, it's more a TPS than a RPG to my eyes! I have a good enough PC to run the game but have never been bothered to! ME2 is shaping quite nicely in the reviews department and congrats to Bioware!

What is you gamertags thebigboss and kneon?

rogimusprime5970d ago (Edited 5970d ago )

people are going to have problems understanding that sentence buddy.

They could be playing PC, or on a modded xbox. One of the advantages of being banned is you don't care WHEN the game is supposed to come out, lol.

kneon5969d ago (Edited 5969d ago )

I'm playing it on PC so no gamertag

From the videos, ME2 cool-down system seems worse off than ME1. While its faster, the cooldown period means all powers can't be used. This means much of the time you can't use any power at all. At least in ME1, while 1 power is taking its long duration to cooldown, there're several other powers you can use. So far, it seems for ME2, once you use 1 power, all the powers have to wait out the cooldown time together.

I hope I'm wrong.

But from the gameplay videos, I fear for the worst!

Bro missing companions: Legion, Grunt, Samara/Morinth, Javik, EDI

anast536d ago

Legion, Zaeed, and Jack are my favorites.

RiseNShine536d ago

To think that Bioware at some point was capable of doing games like this, you see those characters and remember them like good old friends, and now check ME Andromeda, Anthem, Veilguard etc and wonder what the hell happened.

anast536d ago

They lost too much talent.

IAMRealHooman536d ago

some in andromeda are decent, I agree with peebee and Vetra being good companions. Except Liam he's trash tier

anast535d ago

Liam lol I can't stand that dude.

"I started playing games yesterday" the List... Meh!

How about a few RPGs that deserve some love instead?
1 - Alpha Protocol - Now on GOG
2 - else Heart.Break()
3 - Shadowrun Trilogy
4 - Wasteland 2
5 - UnderRail
6 - Tyranny
7 - Torment: Tides of Numenera

And for a bonus game that flew under the radar:
8 - Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden

Loved Alpha Protocol in all it's glorious jank. Great game.

SimpleSlave784d ago (Edited 784d ago )

Not only glorious jank, but the idea that the story can completely change depending on what you do, or say, or side with, makes it one of the most forward thinking games ever. The amount of story permutation is the equivalent of a Hitman level but in Story Form. And it wasn't just that the story changed, no, it was that you met completely new characters, or missed them, depending on your choices. Made Mass Effect feel static in comparison.

Alpha Protocol was absolutely glorious, indeed. And it was, and still is, more Next Gen than most anything out there these days. In this regard at least.

Pity.
