PlayStation 3 gaining developer support in 2010?

Since its launch in 2006, the PS3 has had a rather rocky relationship with third-party game developers. However, after years of disappointing PS3 ports, development studios seem to be making the switch to help ensure an equal experience on both platforms.

Its been gaining dev support every year since launch, so why should 2010 be any different. Pointless article

young juice5882d ago (Edited 5882d ago )

tell that to sega's lazy @ss.

@PirateThom

yes i call them lazy that was the worst port i have seen in a LONG time, the very fact that they have developed so many ps3 exclusives shows that they are more than capable of making a great ps3 title. there really was no excuse for that atrocity.

NOTE: I love sega but that was just laziness.

PirateThom5882d ago

Sega?

Who have released Valkyria Chronicles and three Yakuza games exclusively on PS3?

Sega made 1 poor port, a port of a game they didn't develop, and they're lazy?

cmrbe5882d ago

Its not sega. Its Hideki that i blame.

SnuggleBandit5882d ago

If you are referring to bayonetta, i don't understand what all the big fuss was...besides long loading times. Other than that the game seemed fine to me.

cmrbe5882d ago

The fuss is both version cost the same as well as Hideki lack of respect for PS gamers.

ActionBastard5882d ago

Pirate Thom is absolutely right.

As for Bayonetta, besides the insane "loading" screen for everything you do...it's a blast.

deadreckoning6665882d ago (Edited 5882d ago )

I agree with z-hayden. I heard the PS3 isn't really THAT bad as IGN made it out to be. If u could stand MGS4's load times, then Bayonetta's load times shouldn't be a problem. Still, I'll wait till it goes down to 30 bucks. My next 60 bucks is going straight to God of War 3.

TotalPS3Fanboy5882d ago

Everything Sega developed for the PS3 has been great.

SilverSlug5882d ago

Bayonetta is a great game, regardless of platform it is purchased on. The loading times are a drag, but SEGA has stated they will be patching the game to address the issue. Loading to me is not game breaking, I have played some games that had bigger technical issues on both consoles (Mass Effect, Fable 2) and everyone seems to love them.

At least SEGA is addressing the problem. Maybe they should allow install; optional of course.

presto7175882d ago (Edited 5882d ago )

Too many cheeseburgers will really f**k you up.

And yes with the ps3 as lead platform, abominations like bayonetta and ghostbusters will forever be relics of the past. Now the question is if both versions NEED to be similar when we all know that one platform can do uncharted while the other cant.

morganfell5882d ago (Edited 5882d ago )

This is ridiculous. Why would I want equal support for a more capable, more powerful console? It is ridiculous. It's like owning a Ferrari and being told they will now allow you to drive at 75 which happens to be the top speed for other cars.

I don't want equal support. I want support that maximizes the PS3. I want support where the PS3 isn't limited by DVD9 or no internal HDD. I want support that avails itself of a built in web browser and connection to remote play with a PSP. Instead the PS3 gets shafted with this moronic idea that PS3 and 360 versions must be the same.

Why? They don't make the Wii version the same. In reality we know why they make them similar. Fear of alienation.

Just push each console as far as it will go and let the chips fall where they may.

Although the PS3 is the lead console with Castlevania, no doubt they will hamstring it there too.

Guido5882d ago

The fuss is simply this. Beyonetta is simply fuel for the fanboy war. The 360 fans get a better port port (marginally) and they have to boast about it since they know when games like Uncharted 2, Killzone 2 and God of War III look 100 times better than anything on the 360. They need something to fill the void left by seeing the best games on the PS3 and not their 360. It's just a showing of their immaturity.

Redempteur5882d ago (Edited 5882d ago )

Soory but i HAve to add that the PS3 version of sonic unleashed lack the thing called "optimisation" with several moments when the framerate dropped
( i think it's because the havoc wasn't optimised for this game )
it's really a problem when you try to clear the thirds challenges events where timing is the key of everything

It's weird because when they use their stuff ( valkyria , yakuza 3 ) there is no need for worry their games ( sega ) runs perfect

FamilyGuy5882d ago

Both Kojima and Capcom were already developing for the PS3 so what developer support was "gained", a better word would be "sustained".

And the fact that they mention Kojima as a studio who using the PS3 as the lead platform is even more ridiculous seeing as they've already made a PS3 exclusive and so are more use to the hardware anyway. It seemed obvious that their multiplatform games would use the PS3 as the lead console for both Metal Gear Rising AND Castlevania: Lord of Shadows and any other game they release for these two systems.

ok so should i gamefly bayonetta? ( friends have told me the load times are a deal breaker)

opinions welcomed

cmrbe5882d ago

The problem i have with byonetta is that i played it after U2. Byonetta is all action but no substance. Plays like a really really cheesy D grade action movie.

seifer0855882d ago (Edited 5882d ago )

but I don't see the "ultimate action game" hype that some sites do. I'm playing on ps3 btw.

TheTeam065882d ago

We've dealt with MotorStorm 1 load times. Bayonetta shouldn't be worse than that.

Sarcasm5882d ago

If you are a hormone raging 12 year old, then by all means rent it.

wanderofys5882d ago

Bayonetta is not American made and makes it a point to flaunt that. If that translates into "you must be a hormone raging 12 year old" to enjoy it, then you should pass. If you like fast, fun action, but are willing to deal with some shockingly nasty load times, give it shot. The action and bosses are just awesome.

or even Bungie?

The fable people not so much....

ANybody know what the motorstorm team is doing?

blitz06235882d ago

yeah it sure is. There's one though, that will never develop for the PS3. I don't need to mention that developer, or even that fat person. Who needs them anyway?

-MD-5882d ago

Anybody who loves awesome games need them.

Brb gonna play some TF2.

PeptoBismol5882d ago

Only 3rd party games I could think of are Haze and MGS4. The only 3rd parties that should support the PS3 are Kojima Productions and Rockstar. And maybe Sega(Yakuza).
Forget Valve, they wont go near the PS3. Enjoy your L4D2 on your pc with max settings (assuming you even have a gaming rig).
Bungie will just make another fps.
Sony should just write a big ceck to Ubisoft so they can get Splinter Cell. If Sony could just risk a bit more....

Cmon Sony, you can do better.

Noctis Aftermath5882d ago

Why would sony pay ubisoft to get splintercell? it's not a huge franchise like GTA, FF and MGS.

Sarcasm5882d ago

Or Sony could continue being Sony and write a big check to their own studios so we can continue to get games like Uncharted 2.

Redempteur5882d ago

Or infamous
or gran turismo
or ratchet and clanck
or ( ect ect ect )

Looking Back to 2010 and the Gothic Castlevania: Lords of Shadow

Although being linear, which I wish it wasn't, the first game was absolutely incredible. A mix of old school God of War meets Date's Inferno; I was highly impressed by this title. I heard the sequel was trash so I ever played it but I think LoS was a good example of how a 3D CV game could be.

rgraf771970d ago (Edited 1970d ago )

I was very happy the game was Linear as I hate exploring. The first game was one of my all time favorites and the 2nd game was a total letdown with the lame hub system and stealth sections. Playing in current times sucked too. I wish they would make a remaster of part 1.

magdiellima1970d ago

Good as a game but terrible as a Castlevania. The sequence was even worse.

Terry_B1970d ago

It is a great game, but just like DMC is not a Devil May Cry..this one was not a Castlevania :-)

FreeckyCake1969d ago

Give Castlevania to Igarashi team, and they will nail it as they did with Lament of Innocence and Curse of Darkness.

Terrifyingly Bad: A Look Back At the 3D Castlevania Games

If you decide to play a Castlevania game, make sure it's in 2D. Unfortunately, the series has never been able to make the jump from 2D to 3D successfully. Publisher Konami has tried. Six times in fact, but whether trying to build it in-house or with a third party developer, they never captured the essence of the series or make a good game for that matter. So just to be sure you know what to look out for, here are the six 3D Castlevania games that have been made.

isarai2327d ago

I loved the hell out of lords of shadow, lords if shadow 2 had its moments but just didnt leave as much of an impact on me as the first did, still loved it though. They are both great games IMO, maybe not the best "Castlevania" games but great games in their own right.

RememberThe3572326d ago

Yeah that first game was legit good. Really wish they hadn't taken a step back for the second, this series really looked great in 3D.

AK912326d ago (Edited 2326d ago )

According to one of the former devs of Mercury Steam the higher ups kept interfering with the sequel to the point where the game was nothing like what the dev team had envisioned for the sequel so we got the mess that was Lords of Shadows 2.

PhoenixUp2327d ago

I enjoyed Lament of Innocence and Lords of Shadow. They were entertaining titles and I wouldn’t mind trying Lords of Shadow 2 on PS Now.

Just because a game isn’t GOTY worthy does not mean it’s not worth playing. You could do a lot worse than those exceptional titles.

Abcdefeg2326d ago

Curse of darkness was ahead of its time

Hedstrom2326d ago

I really liked lament of innocence and Lords of shadow! Havent tried the other 3d games. But ive played most of the 2d games!

gangsta_red2326d ago (Edited 2326d ago )

I don't know why Castlevania: Lament of Innocence gets a bad rap. It was one of the best in the series at that time and really was a compliment to the Devil May Cry 3rd person style of action that was getting popular at that time.

I rented it on a fluke and was seriously surprised on how good it was. So much so I went out and bought a used copy of Curse of Darkness and instantly returned that trash.

The problem with Nintendo 64 games is they all tried to mimic the Mario/Zelda 64 style of gameplay and how could they not with that whacky ass N64 controller. Almost every game outside of Nintendo's own felt horrible and incomplete.
