I didn't have enough to buy a ps3. Well I did, but then I wouldn't have any games to play, which makes a system useless. But this way I got 2 games right off the bat(sports and gears) and those lasted me quite a while.

the PS3 does *MORE THAN JUST PLAY GAMES.

i'm going to completely ignore the fact that the PS3 has plenty of quality games (according to metacritic, the PS3 has more 75 and up rated games than that bastion of innovation and creativity, the Wii), and focus on other things the PS3 can do.

even without games, you'd still have one of the best Blu Ray and upscaling DVD players on the market.

even without games, you'd be able to listen to music.

even without games, you'd be able to watch videos (not necessarily movies).

even without games, you'd be able to view photos and what have you (i've been reading 100 Bullets on my 40" LCD set for a week now).

you'd also be able to stream all of the above from your PC to your PS3 (then to your PSP).

something that i learned this week about the PS3/PSP connectivity, is that it's *AWESOME.

our TV is big, and it gives off a lot of light, which keeps my fiance awake when it's late, and i want to watch videos or read something (ie, 100 Bullets), and she wants to sleep.

so what i do is start Nero, stream the data to my PS3, then start up Remote Play on the PS3, and curl up in the bed and read my comics and what not on my PSP, while my fiance doesn't have to worry about the bright light from the TV. like i said, AWESOME.

anyway, even without games, you can still browse the internet, and view most sites (like this one), if they aren't too terribly flash intensive. sites like YouTube work fine, and so many others do.

so, even without games, the PS3 has a lot more you can play around with.

thankfully, there's plenty of good stuff out there (ie, Oblivion, Resistance, Motorstorm, Calling All Cars, Virtua Fighter 5, and some good multi-plat games for those that don't own a high end PC, or 360).

the whole "PS3 has no games," BS is about as stupid-sounding as "The PSP has no games."

so, a game like Resistance, Motorstorm, VF5, and Oblivion (one of the meatiest RPGs out there), wouldn't last a PS3 owner a nice long while? hell, i haven't even *BEAT Resistance or Oblivion yet (not even close in Oblivion), and VF5 is not a game you "beat," and has quite the replay value.

in a few weeks, Ninja Gaiden Sigma hits. that'll eat up more time until the games i'm really excited about (Heavenly Sword, Uncharted, Ratchet, Folklore, etc)come out.

and since the PS3 now upscales my PS1 and PS2 games, i've been having a blast completing the tons of PS1 and PS2 games i *STILL haven't beat yet also.

on topic, i think it's unfortunate that people are going to lose their job, but i think it's cool that Sony is starting to refocus on the things that matter (such as their HDTVs and the Playstation brand).

to me, this adds more strength to the notion that the PS3 will be recieving more downloadable multi-media content besides trailers and games.

i'm sure we'll see a television, movie, and music download service instituted by years end, or early 2008.

insults, for offering an idea of integrating the connect platform into the ps3. Hmm I guess making things easier and more user friendly isn't what you want.

I know, but using the data and information that gathered from connect I'm sure they could've just ported into grouper so they wouldn't have to split the costs, of operating both. Streamlining the system a bit would mean they could keep both running.

Bad on my part. Sorry bout that. Grouper is what sony is investing in for online shows, movies, and videos for the ps3.
