Released in 2009 by DesuraNET Pty Ltd, a private Australian games company (which also runs the ModDB), the aim of Desura is to provide gamers with a dependable interface which delivers the content they want to play in the quickest cross-pc way possible. At its heart is a digital distribution application which can serve (and patch) games, mods and addons to its members. Put simply if you've got a game which can be modded such as half life, counterstrike and freelancer, then this is going to be the place to get the latest mods for them.
