While the platforming genre isn't gaming's feature presentation as it was back in the day, there were still a number of quality platformers released this year to contend with New Super Mario Bros. Wii. Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time, LittleBigPlanet PSP, and Trine were all a good time. But IGN submits that the best platformer of 2009 was one that received less attention than all of these titles (except maybe Trine): Twisted Pixel's 'Splosion Man. While New Super Mario Bros. Wii brought relatively nothing new to the table, 'Splosion Man was brilliant and original.

Super Mario Bros. Wonder is the first Mario 2D game in almost two decades without the New Super Mario art style, and it looks all the better for it
Am I missing something? It looks exactly the same, just higher resolution… Is this sarcasm?
This Mario game looks great, getting a switch for this and Mario RPG. CANT WAIT, TITS JACKED.
Yeah I liked how much more emotion could be conveyed through the new style at first glance I didn't see much difference but then rewatching the trailer I'm seeing more and more animations that remind me of the Mario artwork from the manual of smb3
I hated the new super Mario bros Style. This new one seems a lot more expressive and less generic. I hope it's a good game
I prefer the 2d Mario's. Me and my girl have played them all together and mario galaxy , Mario odyssey. The 2nd player option is extremely eh

Super Mario U is a great one that reminds me alot of Super Mario World on snes. When ran in 4k@60fps on pc, it's hard not to love it.

Well if Little Big Planet went 3d with Dreams then I guess marios going 3D maker next, looking forward to that
I think going forward it would be redundant to have another NSMB game on the Switch as the Mario Maker series can accomplish almost anything the NSMB series have level-wise.
They are competing for the worst journalist award.
Y'know what? IGN wins (yes, I'm including all of 'em, since b.s. like this consistently gets past their editorial board).
Yes, the plebs just don't know any better. The fact that the game sold well can't have anything to do with the fact that other people, y'know, enjoyed a style of game that hasn't seen a new release from Nintendo on a home console in decades.
It's never "laziness" when a publisher puts out yet another derivative shooter, but it's always lazy for Nintendo to put out a style of game they happen to be very skilled at creating.
It's never coasting to recycle racing games or sports franchises that get roster updates and little else each year, but it's always lazy for Nintendo to release a new 2D console platformer every 20 years or so.
You guys are completely justified in feeling a "lingering injustice" toward a game that sells better because it's an established IP instead of DLC.
In short, you're certainly entitled to make yourselves look like a collection of butt-hurt idiots.
And we're all entitled to the resulting schadenfreude of watching the agony of your fanboy ego get cracked over and over again.
Its not a step backwards, or forwards. Its just comfortable with being mediocre. But the sad thing is, a lot of people are comfortable with that too.
Thats what NSMB is.
It seems im not the only one who is not scared to 'admit' its crap.
