While many gamers will look upon the new port of Serious Sam HD: The First Encounter for Xbox LIVE Arcade and think "man, first person shooters sure used to be a lot more simple", the truth of the matter is, it was old school when it was new. FPS's had evolved into something new by the time the game came out, and Serious Sam was very intentionally trying to present a stripped down version of the genre where it was really just all about the shooting.
