Critics Praise Bayonetta

Scoring a 92 on metacritics, Bayonetta is surely a title that everyone needs to try. Buy it, Gamefly, Blockbuster, or barrow it from a friend. This is an action-packed dance of death that you don't want to miss out on.

I live near Barrow(in Furness)-it's an awful place and I don't think Bayonetta would fit in very well, tbh.

I think it's more of a love it or hate it game than the scores suggest, though, and if you didn't like DMC I can't imagine you reallt liking this either. that said, it was alot better than the demos suggested to me and, though i wouldn't go as far as most reviewers I'd give it a mid eight out of ten kind of score. I think the game is liable to grate on a few people as well with it being so overtly cheeky(in a pseudo sexual way)and feeling a lot like it was designed for and by a twelve year old lad with more imagination than knowledge of the ladies! Certainly, a few of my mates found it patronising even if it was a fun romp with a billion combos. I'd also say it suffers from being a bit too one paced and for me felt a bit lazy from Kamiya because it's just so close to his earlier work on DMC-it just has more combos(though I guess in DMC the combat was expanded by, say , the different styles of DMC3 for example), breasts and hair attcks really! In that sense my biggest issue is that it didn't really feel like it should as a new IP.

Whatever, it's definitely fun and sleek fun at that if you like this sort of game and if the aesthetics are up your street i can fully understand people loving it-and if you're really keen there's loads of depth to the combo system that could kep you playing long after you've played through a couple of times. Good game but I still find that average a litle high for the reasons above and i do think quite a few folk will shrug and not get it at all. BTW, I played the PS3 version and really didn't find the horrors that were supposed to lie within. A few long loads and a bit more slowdown than I'd have really liked but nothing that would have put me off and nowhere near enough issues to warrant changing to 360 as I prefer the DS3(esp for H/S games). Good game though and one tha surprised me after the, imo, crappy demo. Sorry for going on a bit there chaps-not that anyone read it.

"Bayonetta is one of the finest actions games I've ever played as long as we're talking about the XBOX360 Version."

Saaking6012d ago

I really think the game is a bit overrated due to the difference between the Ps3 and 360 versions. If both versions had looked the same this game would have probably just flown right under everyone's radar. Anyways, I'll reserve judgment until I play it.

ryano232776012d ago

forget the screen tearing and all the other differences, this game really isn't a 9.2 when compared to games that have received 9's last year and obviously the 9+ that came at the end of 09.

UC2, AC2, Bats, Borderlands, KZ2, inFamous, Halo ODST and numerous others received 9's.

This game doesn't meet the same standards that were made last year.
There are too many good games coming out and they all are not 9's (not even 7 or 8's) when those mentioned above are 9's (or adjusted high 8's)

It can't be good if the 360 version is better. Must be garbage. It's because of the conspiracy on the internet. They also put something in the swine flu vaccine to make people think that Bayonetta was good.

darkmurder6012d ago

Dont go on about gamer zone when every comment you stealth troll anything bar the ps3.

Anywhom Bayonetta is a great game (at least on 360 according to reviewers) so pick it up!

ABizzel16012d ago

I agree with the meta users Bayonetta is a 8.7/ 10 to me. The gameplay is amazing and probably the best of the genre, but the voice work and music are poor, and the game's style will be a huge turn off.

No. The game is a heart pumping thrill. A hell of a action game. Kind of hard too, compared to the demo.

fear886012d ago

Its too easy. Nothing compared to God of War 2. If you think its a great action game with challenge you are obviously a noob to these types of games.

"Its too easy. Nothing compared to God of War 2. If you think its a great action game with challenge you are obviously a noob to these types of games."

Compared to Bayonetta, DMC, and Ninja Gaiden...God of War is a noobfest. I don't know what your talking about. If you indeed were able to play through most of the game with ONE hand like you say, then you were obviously playing on easy mode.

LOL, N4G is the only place on the net I've seen thats hating on this game. STOP-GETTING-EMOTIONAL. Just because the PS3 version is inferior or its not YOUR style of gameplay doesn't justify the hate. Just because YOU don't like something doesn't mean that everyone else needs to follow suit.

chrisulloa6012d ago

You can literally hold the block button through the entire God of War game without taking any damage. God of War is a huuuuuuge noob fest.

Godmars2906012d ago

Good action and decent comedy, presented as sex, sells games.

THANKS FOR THE LAUGH N00B

fear886012d ago (Edited 6012d ago )

Not including the right analog stick, I literally played through most of the game with the face buttons and r trigger. At least in GoW2 you used the analog stick to dodge which required you to cease attack. With bayonetta playing on hardest is easy. R trigger, buttonmash, r trigger, buttonmash. No need to cease attack. And the slow mo made everything way to convenient. If you play bayonetta with two hands, GoW is too hard for you.

SilentNegotiator6012d ago

You have just proven, with that statement, that you have NEVER played through even the entire first level of GOW1 or 2 or CoO.

Plz, GTFO.

BYE6012d ago (Edited 6012d ago )

@2.4

I'm sure YOU played GoW.

If "entire God of War game" means to you staying alive for 10 seconds then you're right.

Obama6012d ago

"You can literally hold the block button through the entire God of War game without taking any damage"

This proves that you haven't even played GOW since there are numerous enemies that can break your guard. Stop lying.

moneybuyseverything6012d ago

You're 2.7 comment doesn't even make sense. Witch time(dodge attack mode or slow time) is a nice touch in Bayonetta and sometimes this is the only way to defeat enemies but the game is pretty deep and if you played it you should know you have to learn how to play the game as well mixing Witch time.

Not all creatures can be defeated by witch time, you still need to use the flee move(RT/R2) and the analog stick and learn some moves. Bayonetta is more layered because the game has much faster and smarter enemies, plus faster action in general.

rezenu6012d ago (Edited 6012d ago )

Man, what's wrong with you people?

Stop fighting over the game already!

moneybuyseverything, I'm playing the PS3 version and it looks fine to me. You know why? Because I play games. I don't use magnifying glasses to see which pixel is more superior over the other. I also don't judge people just because they're not fond of the game.

Just like GOW III and Ninja Gaiden isn't for everyone, Bayonetta isn't for everyone. What kind of a sick, demented person would point fingers and accuse someone of being a fanboy just because they don't like the game.

I think this game is awesome and it's one of my favorite hack and slash games so far but I can RESPECT someone if the game isn't their taste.

All of you fanpeople are alike. It never ends with you people.

It's their opinion. Grow up man.

cyberwaffles6012d ago

"Compared to Bayonetta, DMC, and Ninja Gaiden...God of War is a noobfest"

kind of ironic, don't you like MW2? with joking aside, what god of war lacks in depth for combat, it excels in a great story. bayonetta, DMC, and NG lack a real story to be engaged with and i only see those titles being fun for the fighting and that's it.

now if GOW had a lame story and the same fighting mechanics, then i'm sure no one would give a rat's ass about the series. luckily, that's not the case.

Eamon6011d ago

No doubt that God of War is the best hack and slash out there.
But it's obvious most you guys above are just supporting it because it's PS3 exclusive.
Hell, I bet most of you haven't played the first 2 God of Wars.

I have only play Bayonetta demo and it's true that the dodge button can make the game easy but to be honest, the game is extremely fast like Devil May Cry so it takes skill to press the dodge button on time. Just like in God of War, you have to press the defend button at the right time to counterattack.

Buy ed and tried or tried the demo? BUY THE GAME IT'S CRAZY AND THE DEMO IS NOTHING.

Mista T6012d ago

me too, and I played the demo on the "best" version on my xbox and it left a bad taste in my mouth, the kind u get when u just get out of bed

Bazookajoe_836011d ago

Ive played the Demo on ps3 and then i played the full version on 360, i just cant stand it. She is just hideous, the scenes and lines are extremely cheesy and the fighting is all over the place in a bad way. I cant even see whats going on on screen because there are feets and fists and hair coming from all directions. I can understand why other people may like it, but i would rather play DMC, GOW, NG or NB.

I could definitely see a Bayonetta/Dante game. Imagine them initially battling each other before eventually teaming up to take on the big baddies. Now, imagine what their child(ren) would be like.

-Foxtrot501d ago (Edited 501d ago )

Bayonetta and Dante I could see but even then with how their lore differs it's a hard sell. For the others...I just can't see it at all.

I feel he's just saying whatever comes to him online

jwillj2k4500d ago

Same universe doesn’t mean same world or galaxy

SeTTriP500d ago

Bayonetta is a witch who enter contracts with demons for power and Dante is a demon, not really hard to connect.

They could even write in an alliance between the umbra witches and sparda.

-Foxtrot500d ago

On the surface yeah but the actual lore the two games have given us if you go into it...not so much.

micdagoat19500d ago

would be great if switch 2 upgrades resolution and frame rate on bayonetta 2
