Monster Hunter 3 abolishes Wii Friend Codes

LiveWii writes : "If there is one point where Nintendo can still make progress, it is certainly on the quality of its online gaming service and in particular on Friend Codes. And when one of the biggest upcoming game mainly based on cooperative online, Monster Hunter 3 announces the arrival of a proper system, we can only rejoice."

I'd be pretty awesome if they did the same thing with Tatsukano vs Capcom.

Gen0ne5978d ago

I'd be pretty awesome too.

SinnedNogara5978d ago

Great! Now we need to do this with The Conduit 2 and The Grinder.

qface645978d ago

if the grinder used this then day 1 buy for me

hatchimatchi5978d ago

HVS should focus on making a game worth playing instead of making an online system that bypasses friend codes.

ChickeyCantor5978d ago (Edited 5978d ago )

@baum,
I hope so,
HVS got criticized for many things when it comes to the Conduit. They can only make it better. And they should make a sequel. The last few levels actually looked a bit promising, looks like HVS can do much better.

The game wasn't great, but there were moments i would say I enjoyed it.

They havn't mentioned The Grinder for a while now, so who knows what improvements they made with the engine.

hatchimatchi5978d ago

yea, i agree with sidar. HVS has nowhere to go but up from this point. The Conduit was a bad game but HVS showed signs of being a quality developer. They realllly need to focus on level layouts and environments. Also, they need to get rid of the tedious stuff like the spawn points. Hopefully their next game won't get hyped to no end from ign. I think that was one of the biggest downfalls of the conduit. It was hyped to be everything and then some, it didn't stand a chance to deliver what most people were expecting.

I'm sure i'll get flamed but it doesn't really matter. The reviews speak for themselves.

Hey "a cupcake for gabe" and all you so called hardcore gamers the argument that only old people and young kids only play wii and a hardcore gamer hates and would never turn it on is so wrong i have a xbox 360 a wii and a dsi and my wii gets most of my playing time my dsi second and my xbox 360 third!and i'am 26 year old hardcore gamer who has been playing for 21 years now!and i got modern warfare 2 but barely played it after i got new super mario bros.wii!not saying modern warfare is bad its great i'am just showing that nintendo knows it's stuff if a 2d game could keep me off one of the best games of the year for 2 weeks straight after i only had it a week!my so called hardcore gaming buddys said wait till you get a 360 and play it online you will barely play your wii and they were so pissed when a day or 3 would go by and i havent touch my 360 and i would tell them i'am on my wii everyday playing and surfing the web which i'am writing this from my wii right now cause every kids toy has a web browser right so you can surf on your tv which is such a awesome now free thing to have!and i'am not trash talking my 360 i love my xbox and i like the ps3 too!but i'am tired of reading nintendo related storys and sony and microsoft fanboys trash talking the wii because the truth is yinz are mad cause the wii is cushing the other 2 consoles in sales!well get over it wii has been out for 3 years and 4 holiday seasons and crushed the other cosoles every time after 3 years it's not a fad maybe one year not 3 years if you don't like it just play and enjoy your console of choice. cause whinning like little girls everytime you read a somthing about nintendo is making hardcore gamers sound like sissy little girls so i take it back when i said i'am a hardcore gamer i'am a adult gamer!!!who enjoys all types of games not just mature gore and blood shooters and there sequels that come every year over and over again!!!

madjedi5978d ago (Edited 5978d ago )

@4 Ya know we have an invention called paragraphs and spell check, it would help that mess you call a post to be more understandable, by the way the post was written i was thinking jr high kid or freshmen not a 26 yr old.

ps3 and 360 fanboys hate that the wii is crushing both of the other consoles, why is it all some of you wii boys can boast about is how many more consoles nintendo has sold vs sony or ms and not the games, i buy consoles for games not sales.

Sorry but most ps3 and 360 owners, i know usually either laugh, roll their eyes, or give a dismissing gesture when it comes to the wii and some of it's games, it's called an opinion (also subjective) sue us.

Mature gore and blood shooters, well yes when living organisms get shot or hit with shrapnel it tends to bleed and be rather gory who would have thought. And there sequels like wii sports resort, red steel 2, mario party 9, or the 1000th mario spin off, you know princess every console has sequels so stop being stupid.

The game discussed in this is monster hunter 3 at least the third in the series, and yet in your incoherent rant you forgot that, but still went on to whine about ps3/360 gory shooters and their sequels.

Lastly your entire rant is based on a what hardcore means, unfortunately it is a subjective term that has no absolute definition in none technical term, your definition is probably different than mine. And the i am not a hardcore gamer, i am an adult(again subjective) gamer, yeah you and every other gamer 18 years of age and older.

Anyway enjoy the game wii owners, tried one of them on ps2, but not my thing.

Mahr5978d ago (Edited 5978d ago )

"first take a couple of english courses then try to post"

No offense, but you're probably not the best person to be lecturing mshope10 on taking English courses.

"by the way the post was written i was thinking jr high kid or freshmen not a 26 yr old."

Uh, as long as we're going on about linguistics courses and whatnot, it is customary in the English language to capitalize the first-person pronoun. "i" is what people buy when they're on Wheel Of Fortune; "I" is what people use when they refer to themselves.

As you yourself said, we have this invention called Spell Check, and that's actually one of the major things it looks for (and sometimes even corrects automatically), as it's something that most people learn way back in elementary school.

"ps3 and 360 fanboys hate that the wii is crushing both of the other consoles"

Yeah, it's also customary to capitalize both the first letter in what begins a sentence, as well as acronyms and proper names.

"why is it all some of you wii boys can boast about is how many more consoles nintendo has sold vs sony or ms and not the games"

Incidentally, we also have this thing called a question mark, which usually denotes that the sentence is an interrogative. If you're operating on the standard QWERTY keyboard, the symbol should be right next to the period key.

"i buy consoles for games not sales"

That's the second "I" that you've neglected to capitalize, but grammar aside from the moment, this argument you're engaging in is a logical fallacy known as a "straw man".

It's a straw man because no one is saying "I buy consoles for the sales!"; the sales merely indicate that the Wii is a popular system, which in turn means that its games appeal to a considerable number of people.

"Sorry but most ps3 and 360 owners, i know usually either laugh, roll their eyes, or give a dismissing gesture when it comes to the wii and some of it's games"

Well, let's see: You missed a comma after "Sorry", failed to capitalize "PS3" and "Wii" again, used a lower-case "I" for the third time, and added in the new twist of using "it's" -- which means "it is" -- for possession. Please see me after class.

"it's called an opinion (also subjective) sue us."

For the moment, I'll ignore that you just fused three-to-four separate sentences into a single mess, and instead I will point out that, yes, people have opinions, which are subjective. Moreover, people have different opinions, which they like to share with one another. It's called discussion.

"Mature gore and blood shooters, well yes when living organisms get shot or hit with shrapnel it tends to bleed and be rather gory who would have thought."

And when people ask questions in written form, they tend to use question marks. Who would have thought?

"And there sequels"

There *are* sequels, I believe you mean. Or perhaps that's a reference to mshope10's post, in which case you could probably do with a lesson on quotation.

"like wii sports resort, red steel 2, mario party 9, or the 1000th mario spin off,"

All of those are proper names. Tell me, when you write your own name down, do you do it all in lower case? Incidentally, it's "Spin-off" with a dash.

"you know princess every console has sequels"

"Princess"? Seriously? Well, alright.

"The game discussed in this is monster hunter 3 at least the third in the series, and yet in your incoherent rant you forgot that, but still went on to whine about ps3/360 gory shooters and their sequels."

This point is valid, though ironic, given that it's only slightly less incoherently expressed than anything mshope10 wrote.

"Lastly your entire rant is based on a what hardcore means"

What exactly is the indefinite article doing in this sentence?

"unfortunately it is a subjective term that has no absolute definition in none technical term"

'It has no absolute definition in none technical term'? What?

"your definition is probably different than mine."

This is true, though again, it should probably be its own sentence.

"And the i am not a hardcore gamer, i am an adult(again subjective) gamer, yeah you and every other gamer 18 years of age and older."

That's another two times that you've managed to misspell "I".

Let he who is without sin -- and not living in a glass house -- cast the first stone.

madjedi5977d ago (Edited 5977d ago )

@4.2 i had a real reply but my ps3 decided to refresh the page without me meaning to and i am not retyping it all over again. And i am well aware that my spelling, grammer and puncuation, capitalization are all flawed, however i hated the writing part of english with a passion.

It was also five in the morning when wrote that, i would hope no one actually speaks that clinically in real life, at least for casual discussions anyway.

@mshope mw2 one of the best games of 2009, even granting differing opinions, someone has low standards, i am scared to hear your criteria for goty.

"i had a real reply but my ps3 decided to refresh the page without me meaning to and i am not retyping it all over again. And i am well aware that my spelling, grammer and puncuation, capitalization are all flawed, however i hated the writing part of english with a passion"

Right, which is why it's positively hilarious that you're lecturing others on *their* English.

"It was also five in the morning when wrote that"

I can't help but notice that it's no longer five in the morning and those "I"s remain uncapitalized. Seriously, Spell Check would fix that right up.

"i would hope no one actually speaks that clinically in real life, at least for casual discussions anyway"

Right, which is why it's positively hilarious that you're lecturing others on *their* English.

"Mahr has too much free time, lol."

Free time? I wish! At least then I'd be at home playing Bayonetta instead of at work waiting for a call to come in. Ah, well, such is the nature of IT.

madjedi5977d ago

@4.5 i don't use spell check because i don't trust the ps3's browser not to erase the entire post or take the chance the browser locks up the system. So i can seriously live with a few capitalization and puncuation errors, i don't like changing my habits once i get accustomed to them.

I really hate walls of text posts, i figured you worked in a field where you are required to think methodically with the way you took apart the post.

Mahr5977d ago

"never claimed my writing was perfect and doesn't need to be"

If you attack others for their writing, as you did to mshope10, then yes, it does need to be. Otherwise, you're not practicing what you preach.

"So i can seriously live with a few capitalization and puncuation errors, i don't like changing my habits once i get accustomed to them."

Which is perfectly fine -- until you start going after others for having pretty much the same habits. There's nothing wrong with living in a glass house; you just shouldn't throw stones.

The Best Monster Hunter Games - Every Western Monster Hunter Game Ranked

What's the best Monster Hunter of all time? In a series where half of the titles have the word 'Ultimate' fixed on the end, it can be a difficult decision to make. NL are not averse to difficult decisions though, so have taken it upon theirselves to rank every single Monster Hunter game (yes, even the non-Nintendo ones) to determine which is the very best.

Why Monster Hunter is Less Successful In The West, and How Capcom Could Fix That

The third generation of Monster Hunter drags the series back to western shores because well, why not? In fact you could say that three really has been the magic number. Unless you live in Japan in which case one and two were also pretty fantastic and if anything three has been nothing short of a crushing disappointment.

‘But wait!’ Voletic hears you scream, ‘Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate has been recently announced, why are you addressing the third iteration?’ Because background knowledge is a beautiful thing and Voletic has a word count to fill.

Amigaengine4199d ago

Simple, change the name to call of monsters and add guns :P

PeaSFor4199d ago

release it on ps4, it will be a good start.

"Why Monster Hunter is Less Successful In The West, and How Capcom Could Fix That"

Simple answer. Make the game multiplatform. Release it on PC/X1/PS4.

stavrami-mk24198d ago

vita don't forget the vita

KillerResistance4198d ago

@stavrami-mk2 ya, when will Monster Hunter come back to its home platform (PSP), i mean its successor Vita, can do alot with it and so can other systems, I just don't understand why Monster Hunter is becoming exclusive to Nintendo after all the years of it being on Sony.

breakpad4199d ago (Edited 4199d ago )

no ..MonHUn does not need wide acceptance from west audience, it created and succeed without acceptance from casual gamer ...Capcom must keep it intact as it is ...if they try to appeal to western gamers they probably make some tragic mixture of game mechanics spoiling entirely the series (see RE4-6, Drak souls 2)...those who want to play the game they play it even in japanese ,it doesnt need to be accepted from everyone

Th4Freak4199d ago

My problem with MH is the slow paced and plain combat system, if they make it more dynamic count me in.

breakpad4199d ago (Edited 4199d ago )

PLAIN combat system the Mon hun series????? have you ever played the games man??? Mon Hun has one of the most frantic and dynamic combat systems ever , it is perfectly made like a japanese fighting game ..the only problem is that has been stolen from the underpowered Nintendo systems ..bring it back to Sony and see it shine

Th4Freak4198d ago

Yes I have, I bought MH freedom Unite a few months after I got my Vita because it was being highly recommended on Reddit and after spending 14 hours into the game the combat system didn't make it for me, every other aspect of the game is great but the combat system isn't dynamic in any way, not only its slow paced but you can't make combos like you would in other games.

Now, keep in mind that in my comment I expressed that it didn't work FOR ME, I know a lot of people love it as it is and thats fine but I didn't like it, I like fast paced combat where I can move fast, hit several parts of the mob not only its legs (in the case of bosses) and make dynamic combos not the same combo all the game.

WeAreLegion4199d ago

Don't try telling Monster Hunter fans the combat sucks. They won't listen. -_-

Neckbear4199d ago (Edited 4199d ago )

But it doesn't suck. It's its own particular brand of hack-n-slash, which is why some people dislike it- with it being slow and precise.

But I'd rather have MonHun's combat stay as it is than see the series transform into a modern-day, western-ish work with a "mash square to win and QTEs for cool animations" combat system.

It's fine as it is.

dredgewalker4198d ago

I have to disagree that the combat sucks. Combat in this game requires a lot of planning and if you just use the old hack and slash routine you'd end up as monster chow. The controls take a while to get used to and each weapons have their own pros and cons. It's also a fun game to play with friends but I have to admit that this game is not for everybody.

N4g_null4198d ago

The combat is jarring at first but they should provide context. Small fast arms should be enabled that attack like a ninja and the heavy weapons would work better perception wise but the ninja attacks would take way longer but offer quicker dodging.

Yet if you play the game you can see even that is sort of supported.

Nerdmaster4198d ago (Edited 4198d ago )

I still wish for a "real" RPG that uses Monster Hunter battle system. People told me Dragon's Dogma did it, but I played it and the combat had nothing to do with Monster Hunter other than sometimes having to fight really big monsters.

Monster Hunter would be one of my favorite game series with its fantastic battle system and crafting, if it didn't rely too much on going back many times to the same places, one time to kill twenty X enemies, other time to kill ten Y enemies, other time to gather ten Z mushrooms... It should have more of a traditional quest system: you get the quests to kill X, Y and collect Z, so you go once and you can do all that at once, instead of having 20 quests that you have to choose one at a time and go to the same place all the 20 times.

I always play for like... 20 hours before getting tired of the quest structure and quitting the game.

HentaiMasterRace4199d ago

Make it multiplatform for starters. 3DS/Wii U, PS4/Vita.

N4g_null4198d ago

What is sad is it would sell the same number but you just spent a ton of money porting it. Just because people don't like the combat system and they didn't like the story. It really is a bayo2 like problem.

Spotie4198d ago

Considering how successful the game was on PSP, it would have made sense to put it on the Vita, since many PSP fans upgraded with the expectation that a new MonHun would be there. A Vita version would do very well, and move units to boot.

Putting Monster Hunter on PS4 or even XB1 would also boost sales- and thus profits- quite a bit. Like Dragon Quest, there's an existing fanbase on PlayStation consoles for the franchise, and the larger- and faster growing- install base is more than promising.

It's nothing at all like Bayonetta. Bayonetta virtually abandoned its original fanbases to build a new one; Monster Hunter doesn't have to do that. Rather, it would be going back, in some cases, and expanding to new areas in others.

N4g_null4198d ago

You can argue that those gamers bought 3ds. Which would be true. Also capcom was not willing to spend the money to push a vita after their fanbases began to turn on them.

We are talking about japan here. When was man hunter successful in the west?

NovusTerminus4199d ago

They need a full console release, launch the CryEngine one for PC for PS4/XO. And make sure to bring it stateside.

Masterchief_thegoat4199d ago

Maybe being exclusive is not a smart choice capcom has made.
