Well I definitely was not expecting that order.

What they wrote about FFXII was very true though. I'm glad they made it the way they did.

whoever made this article has no history of final fantasy. FF6 and FF7 are arguably the best ones, followed by FF8...then any of the others...maybe FF4 after, damn this list pissed me off lol

FF sucks ass

I for one hate that FF9 beat out FF7 and FF8. I never liked 9. I was not a fan of the big heads. For me it was just backtracking and not going forward at all.

Final Fanatasy VII(nuff said), That game did a lot for the genre, and brought masses to the PS brand, including moi.

Final Fantasy VIII was also good, and I know, but I also liked Final Fantasy IX(not many people did I know, but it brought it back to the roots of medieval era).

Final Fantasy X was also great.

See I collect RPG OST's as well as other Videogames, so I like a lot of Tracks for 7, 9, and 10. Currently playing 12, and it's rather different with the battles system.

I miss the Random battles. Not knowing what your going to see or expect made it enjoyable in certain parts of the games. Now you see everything walking around shootin the sh!t, then you engage. I hate it how other Monsters, butt their nose in your battles and all the sudden your fighting a battel you didn't ask for.

Anyhow I still have Mixed feelings, the game looks great tho, I think it might be the last game I buy for the PS2. I'm moving on.

but I agree completely with the list. I've played all the FF's at the time of their original releases, and FF6 was by far the most advanced for it's time, even more so then seven. FF7 started a new generation of RPG'ers because of it's greatness, but FF6 was the better game (again...for the time)

Don't like it. Not because the 7 is not #1 (though I wish it were) is the fact that they state that the graphic and grammer problem don't hold up very well(on 7). But the #1 on their list is a re-released remastered version of that game. If you really want to compare they should all be judged on the orignal release of that game.

FF12 and 9 sucked donkey balls. After FFX, final fantasy has been declining in quality i'm afraid. Square enix's new motto is style over substance. Graphics are amazing but story, plot and characters are sorely lacking. Look at number 12, the only memorable character was Batheir beacuse he was unique and stood out from the rest, Vaan was a terrible lead character, he had no presence or personality. The FF12 story was also crap as well as the ending. But the graphics were the best of all FF's(Except 13 of course). This is my main fear for Final fantasy 13.

Jeezus! This is GameDaily's list, not yours. I bet no one in this comment section will have the same list. They are called opinions people. Otherwise, they would be facts. Some internet site's top 10 list in no way reflects popular opinion, and especially not your opinion. Oh FFX was your favorite? Guess what? Alot would agree, alot wouldn't. Start your own site and dedicate your top 10, so when (if) it makes it on n4g, people can tare it apart.

Edit: oh and at least your favorite is on the list. I don;t know the exact number of FF games that are available in North America, but its not far from 10.

Surely everyone thinks that the FF I starred in was the best. ok maybe not. I actually enjoyed FF7 the best.

I like that 9 was put ahead of 7 and 8, cause that's the way I would put it too. However, I was suprised 12 was put second, didn't think anyone liked that one.

they actually got the list right for once, Unlike other places that pretty much put 7 as the number 1 to cater to the fans of that game.

they actually put forth the better game in the series.

Final Fantasy 6 was an achievement of great proportions it had a decent translation was advanced graphically and gameplay wise for its time.

and to every one that says ff7 or is all pissy cause ff7 didn't get number 1.

Final fantasy 7 was the worst of all final fantasies its story was stupid, fell apart half way through, and it had more and bigger plot holes then paris hiltons "holes".

The only thing it had going for it was being released on a system more popular then n64, and being the first 3d final fantasy and because of this the majority of its fans we're actually newbies to rpgs and ff7 was the first one they ever played.

The basic plot of ff7, Sephy is a blondy flowing haired whiney emo that wants his mommy and decides to take over the world, Cloud is a lil whiney brat thats ashamed he couldn't become a soldier first class so makes up all this crap that he hears from zaks.

Cloud has no emotion, He supposedly loves aerith yet when hes laying her to rest in the water, his face is as blank as a book.

FF7 didn't even deserve to be on that list, it was worse then ff2.

easy...was the 1st one to have FMV in series...FF6 had only in remake for ps1...

had an easy, simple and great combat system...

was beautiful with a great story...

it was the one made people know FF outside japan...

was very addictive...

but if FF7 is not no.1 then the list is utter BS. I personally think FF7 is the best GAME ever made, and its definately widely agreed its the best RPG ever made. A film was made of it for crying out loud, how more popular can you get?

And everything REbirth said is spot on. PLUS FF7 has some of the coolest moments in videogame history. The Weapons that attack Midgar and Junon come to mind

First of all XII being #2 just shows it's all wrong. X even being on the list is tragic and having VII only #5 is a sin.

This is exactly that, an opinion. There is no way that a list of "Top 10 FF games" could be made without somebody throwing in an opinion. Most of us will have different views on the top 10 list which is OK.

Definataly 7. The characters were great, story was great, everything was great. 8 comes pretty close though.

About 9, well it seemed like it was a little more kid oriented. It was okay though. I still beat it.

Funny topic since FF is one of the few series that has enough games to make a top ten list not counting spin offs.

Remeber, the order of the list is a matter of personal preference, so don't complain, they're all great games. Come to think of it, not many other series could get away with having enough games to make a top 10 out of.

But i thing that is number 1 is final fantasy 8 because its really a good game nice story nice game play and nice for every thing sound gravis animation action every thing .....

And i like to say that the final fantasy one of the game i will never die and i will keep playing it until it no more part of final fantasy

FF7,8,9 and FF3 (the one on SNES) are equally good for me. Perhaps 7 is the best but then again 8 was really brilliant as well.

FF 8 really immersed me in the experience, superb game

I've been playing FF since the beginning and for me it's a toss up between FF6(FF3 in the US) and FF Tactics. Tactics is not part of the mainstream FF series but I've played through that game at least 4 times. Each time taking around 60 hours. I haven't put that much time in any other FF game. I think that FF8 is the worst for me. I couldn't even finish the game. The Job System and the Sphere System from FFX were my favorite for building characters.

Edit: I just realized how old this article is, wow. Who pulled this one out of the vault?

I didn't play this on the original Playstation, but I did buy the steam version after hearing about the amazing mods that are available. Square Enix definitely made the right decision to re-release this game on multiple platforms decades after release.

I am still wishing for the day Nintendo releases the original Pokemon Red and Blue on mobile with online features.

Edit: I am also looking forward to the day Square Enix ports FFX to mobile.
