CES' Burning Xbox Question: Will Natal Not Work With High-End Games?

Kotaku: "As the first full day of the Consumer Electronics Show wore on, stories exploring the digital guts of Microsoft's Project Natal gave way to gamer anxiety that the hands-free controller can't work with high-end 360 games.

Reports covered by Kotaku this morning indicated that the Natal would use 10-15 percent of the Xbox 360's "computing resources." Those reports gave way to comments we received from a source familiar with the development of Project Natal who said that the peripheral would actually need to use up to 33 percent, a third, of the 360's CPU."

I don't think you'll see the same graphic quality from Natal games as non Natal games.

gamingisnotacrime6026d ago

i hope so, because with the nice visuals Natal will be less attractive for core gamers.
I wish Natal to be able to run Halo like looking games, that would get the job done and with a good use of the Motion Control the experience can be rewarding. Its all wait and see

and am putting this comment here so it is close to Giant Enemy Crab's comment.

the /s was there all along...N4G formated my comment in such a way that it was hidden bellow my pic like that.

Any way...Did anyone really expect hardcore highend games for Natal or the Wand. We are going to get HD Wii stuff and anyone who thinks different is smoking something imo.

Microsoft Xbox 3606026d ago

Big mistake for MS to remove the internal chip.

Godmars2906026d ago

Wouldn't think it effects graphic quality, aside from limiting further quality, but if its tracking limit is 30fps how is it suppose to work with games operate at 60fps?

Raf1k16025d ago

I don't think it's that much of a mistake.
MS is gunning for the casual market and as we all know from the Wii's success, you don't need great graphics to get the attention of casuals. You do however, need a peripheral that's not too expensive so dropping the chip was probably a good idea. The only problem with that is that it leaves less CPU power for more graphics intensive games which isn't good for us gamers.

Cueil6025d ago

and two cores should be more than enough to do Gear 1 graphics... and offloading some assets like how the character reacts to a controll input may be freed up depending on the use of Natal... though this rumor and the rumor of a more powerful sku seem like they may go hand in hand... we should wait for official word

Real Gambler6025d ago

Or the PS3 Eye since it already has a very good microphone array. What's nice about Microsoft dropping the processor is the fact that Sony could probably just make a small ultrasonic sensor add-on to put under the existing camera, and sure enough, it would be quite possible for third party devs to make a game that would work on both consoles.

Sure enough, if this is true, now Natal has really become a simple copy of the PS2 eyetoy...

True, you won't - at least no one will step forward and say that the Xbox360 is being pushed to its limit in a Natal-focused game *if this chip removal thing goes through*. However, was Natal ever supposed to be designed for this type of game? I know that they can reel more people in with linking it to older games or more hardcore-leaning future titles, but this seems more like a casual leap for the 360.

No matter what people are saying at presentations, if they really are moving processing to the CPU, it's a move that screams "We are aiming this at an audience that doesn't care nearly as much about graphics than our current audience." That's not a bad thing, but it certainly at least *is*.

@Cueil - Are you content with future titles having graphics that rival Gears of War 1 if they're Natal-enabled? Maybe that's a bit of a loaded question, since good games are more than just a tech demo, but I'm wondering.

LOL HYPTAL is NOT even a high-end piece of equipment in the first place.

EDIT: Yes shadow woman that's why there was ahhs, ohhs, claps and laughter when SONY was unveiling it last year.
The guy that was presenting M$'s E3. His clap was the loudest throughout the whole show.
I watched both don't try and tell me otherwise.

ipwnall6026d ago

Actually it's the best thing in it's class on the market. Natal isn't better than the PSEye. So why are you still backing it?

Wrathman6026d ago (Edited 6026d ago )

i dont understand the constant moaning about this.and the droning sound of people saying it wont work with this game and that game.there is not 1 single current xbox game that i would want to put to use with natal.

i want original games that are specific to natal.i wud not want natal if it means losing substance from higher end games.

natal -rubbiks cube wud be sweet.and games of such like.
i use this an example of the games that natal shud be used for.not highend games.

ps...aquarius..who the hell owns a rubiks cube nowadays?
natal shud be fun and light hearted.not serious.MS-keep natal casual!!! why were u peeling potatoes?was it your turn in the prison cafeteria?

Aquarius6026d ago (Edited 6026d ago )

Why would you play a game of rubik's cube with HYPTAL?
I would rather hold the cube in my hand instead of grasping onto thin air.
You know placing your arms outright will cause pain? I was peeling potatoes today, so I know.

You have MAD BOT DISEASE.

Can we make a new rule? No stories that we won't have the answer to until the game is released?

"Will Natal work?" Wait until it comes out.
"Will God of War 3 look better than Uncharted 2?" Wait.
"Will the Wii continue continue to dominate in 2010?" Wait.
"Will the..." WAIT
"Wi...." WAAAAAAAAIT

TheObserver6026d ago

As an observer, I realize that we must have more N4G Official laws. We need rules if we are to be civilized in the gamer zone. The gamer zone should also enforced greater penalty as well. The internet is a place for scumbags to gather because they hold no responsibility for their actions.

1. Don't approve anything with a question mark at the end, its stupid and doesn't present anything new to the equation. Wait!

2. Establish your principles. Neutrality does not exist. Either sales/graphics/number of player/pixels/etc matter or they do not matter, stop flipping and flopping on and off on what counts when you feel butthurt or need to stroke your ego. Hypocrisy will be reduced and it shows you have integrity.

3. Be polite. Since this is online, social norms break down. Normally you would be polite to the person you speak face to face with, but on the internet people become keyboard warriors. The way you present yourself online is comparable to the way you present yourself in the physical world. If you change face then it means you have absolutely no integrity.

Feel free to add to the list of code of conduct you guys feel that would improve the gaming community on N4G.

Mike134nl6025d ago

A lot of rumors are based on reality, And if true it gives the community the option to give their opinion on the subject. Being it either negatively or positive it gives the developers the time to reevaluate their rumored decisions.

Pennywise6025d ago

I think any article where the title has to have a question mark should be banned.

lve2playbball6025d ago

HAHAHA please watch the Natal CES video...I watched it and in some of the scenes with people "using" Natal the system is not present--it's not on top of the tv or below it...dumbass MS

lightningsax6025d ago

Wait, are your sources actually two concepts, or did you have articles to go with your post?

Links, or at least authors, if they're articles.

bjornbear6025d ago

N4G would be devoid of articles.

its just human nature to ask and speculate about things that catch our attention... lol

moneybuyseverything6026d ago (Edited 6026d ago )

It's also human Nature to:

-destroy
-tear down
-break
-discriminate against

Because of:

-fear
-hatred
-misunderstanding
-envy
-ignorance

I wouldn't call it attention when it comes to trying to bash Natal with it's specs more like nut-case fixation. That is why the story heated up to 130 degrees in 6 minutes. In the real world consumers can care less about what does what and how.

Press X to (seriously) doubt.

Underrated comment. I used to hate that game so much that any time my siblings asked me to play it, I just picked Hom and shut myself down mid-match.

And then MK1 killed it again.

15 years went by so fast. I remember playing through the story mode at launch.
