Microsoft: Hardcore Gamers Will Love Project Natal

IGN:

Microsoft understands hardcore gamers don't want to stand in front of their TV and wave their arms when playing Project Natal. For them, Natal will be a very different experience.

During Microsoft's financial analyst briefing this afternoon, President of Entertainment and Devices Division Robbie Bach was asked to explain who the targeted demographics are for Project Natal, due out this holiday. Bach explained Natal was for everybody, including hardcore gamers expecting to play Halo: Reach.

"Take your hardcore gamer, they're going to love Natal,"Bach explained. "Now, they'll play a different style of game on that when they're doing it. When they play Halo: Reach, they might be back with their controller doing some very, you know, targeted things. But the style of game they will play will be different."

Lol. Nice.

I have doubts about Natal supporting hardcore games, but we will see. I know MS is just trying to remove doubts but I'm just waiting for them to walk the walk than talk the talk.

Eamon6010d ago

Seriously, I'm hoping MS isn't lying.

Microsoft Xbox 3606010d ago

You cannot take anything with a 100ms reaction time serious. If it's not true 1:1 it will most definitely fail for the hardcore market.

Saaking6010d ago (Edited 6010d ago )

I'm a "hardcore" gamer and from what I've heard today Natal is bound for failure. 30 FPS, and it's run by the 360 itself? For something so revolutionary, it sounds to me like they're actually behind what Sony offers with their Motion controls (PSeye does 60 FPS).

It'll be laggy and take away from what games could be (since it'll use the 360) and from the looks of it it'll be expensive. Why would I or any other person want THAT. It's full of negatives.

Arnon6010d ago

The only thing I see Natal supporting for hardcore gamers are subtle things like head tracking and squad commands (hand movements). Of course, this would still be incredibly awesome.

Zeal0t6010d ago

I mean c'mon what else are they supposed to say?

I'm still sceptical about the use for harcore games. That goes for motion control in general but i loved the Sony E3 techdemo with the sword and shield.

Jaces6010d ago

I'll believe it when I see it.

gaffyh6010d ago

Standard PR babble, I'm just going to ignore it until I see something I want to play, with my own eyes.

captain-obvious6010d ago

LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL

thatsa a hella of a joke MS

Bigpappy6010d ago (Edited 6010d ago )

I play Reach with the controller, but when I have to toss grenades or smack someone, I use my arms. the sword play can be lots more fun. This could be big for the hardcore. Maybe not N4G posters who are mostly PS3 fanboys, but most Halo players would love the newness of those types of options. It just came to me that M$ might be planing to have some bundles with Natal and Halo: Reach and Maybe Natal and Fable. This could be bigger than I though.

Bathyj6010d ago

Meh, still inconvinced. I like controllers and sitting dammit.

NateCole6010d ago

LMAO at the pic.

Natal is just full of fail. In the immortal words of fat princess. MS should scrap it it and do a do over.

kneon6010d ago

and they will use Natal for other aspects of the game and not for those requiring high precision. That is a good thing, use it where it works well, don't force it to be used where it will only frustrate people.

Zeal0t6010d ago

this has nothing to do with being a fanboy (at least not for me), i'm just sceptical about it.

But you know they recently dropped the internal chip and the lag issue doesn't sound very good either. But as a (hardcore)gamer i'm very curious to see how sony or ms will implement their motion control technologies into hardcore games

moneybuyseverything6010d ago (Edited 6010d ago )

I'm not sure what is hard to understand? So many haters are acting selectively stupid in all Natal articles. What I get from what was said is, games for Natal will also include games with mature themes, plots, gameplay and stories.

I don't see why it is hard for haters to see, Microsoft was talking about Natal having games with challenging difficulty that require hardcore skill sets. So anybody with a brain would see that Natal will have games not mostly rated E/Teen.

Hardcore Natal games will have:
*Mature stories intact
*Not all games will have family friendly kiddy artstyles
*Plenty of games will have challenging difficulty settings that need time invested to master
*Mature gameplay and content will be intact.

You can't choose what Harcore means to back up your hate for Natal.

I get a Kick out of all these haters scared out of their minds repeating the same things in every Natal article that gets attention because of something written that gets people exited for Natal.

I'm not sure where PS3 fans are going with this excuse, are they saying motion games are all casual in nature by default and require Mario Party graphics and need to be twitch shooters?

EDIT

You disagree? Poor Baby. Go Bi*ch and moan in the PS3 zone.

sikbeta6010d ago

I'm telling this from the beginning, natal can't be focused for "Hardcores" cuz the "Hardcores" were hating the wii and motion-everywhere since the beginning and they'll not change just cuz M$ say so

Hypocrisy is rampant now, but that is not going to change anything

4Sh0w6010d ago

Gamers who love to see fresh ideas that push gaming forward will patiently wait and hope that Natal can bring something cool/fun to games.

The same people who hated Natal since it was annouced at E3 will no doubt continue to show up in every Natal post with negative comments even when/if something impressive is shown, its n4g so you cant take much said here seriously.

Did he just confirm Natal support for Reach? or was he only using it as an example? I doubt microsoft would use it in a game like Reach unless it can really offer something to the experience.

boodybandit6010d ago (Edited 6010d ago )

sorry but I have no interest in Natal.
It will lack precision and immersion for me. I enjoy kicking back and relaxing while I game. I wouldn't have spent what I did / do on perps (900 degree wheels, fight sticks, flight sticks, etc) to simulate it with body movements.

I spend hundreds of hours per year gaming and most of it is done on specialty controllers like my c0ckpit and my force feedback wheel with a tactile transducer attached to the racing seat. Sitting on a desk chair faking the motions wont give me the same level of enjoyment. I would feel like one of those drunk idiots at a party doing their air guitars to tunes in the background. Thanks but no thanks.

Hey I know MS stand over your partner with no clothes on and go through the motions from a distance then ask them if they reached satisfaction from your performance. See how fast they reach for the night stand drawer when you walk out of the room. You know, to grab a physical device to get the job done!

Zeal0t6010d ago

I don't get it, why do some of you have get so defensive? Just because not everyone says "N4T4L iZ d4 t3h h4rDc0R3 g4m1nG gadget of t3h fu7ure"? I do welcome fresh ideas, i really do but i'm not blind.

Sikbeta has some got points and i agree with him! And as i said this goes for every motion control technology.

darkmurder6010d ago

Jenny Craig: Fat people will love diet cake, somehow I dont think this will ring true either.

davekaos6010d ago

Hardcore gamers will love natal! Really M$.
If thats the case then why didn the eye toy for ps2 take off....
After all sony started this tech years ago
People prefer to use controllers SIMPLE

Cueil6010d ago

gestures with basic squad control would free up a great deal of button usage and it's way more accurate then voice... it's also something that doesn't have to be translated... I wonder what the creators of ICO could do with this kind of technology

jmare6010d ago

You really think so? Games have been done with that kind of bullshit before. It gets old really fast and it isn't nearly as accurate as a controller. SIXAXIS supported games had stupid crap like moving the controller to melee and almost no one ever used it because it sucks. The only game to do it well, in my opinion, was SOCOM when you tilt the controller you lean left or right and can peek over cover. All other uses sucked.

vhero6010d ago (Edited 6010d ago )

90% of MS audience is hardcore so they better be right but I honestly cannot see hardcore audiences liking this devices its TOO casual. I honestly think MS are playing too much on this and it could cost MS big time in the console war and untimely give Sony the edge they need to finally surpass them as Sonys gamers as varied from hardcore to casual whereas Wii are 90% casual 360 are 90% hardcore Sony are 50-50.

Also as for Cueil that was a completely fanboyish comment brining up team ICO like that but they already have the technology on ps3 in PSEYE however Sony realized interactive cams were nothing more than a gimmick long ago and didn't bother pumping millions into it anymore.

Expect the Unexpected
Natal is the Wii killer
Hardcore Gamers will love Natal

anything else to add to the hype MS? How about Natal will have better reliability than the 360?

awesomeperson6010d ago

Natal will not eat up your money like a whore on steroids?

anti-gamer6010d ago

lagtal well make xbox360 have KZ2 & uncharted 2 graphic quality.

green6010d ago

Halo Reach support confirmed.

Microsoft Xbox 3606010d ago (Edited 6010d ago )

How are you gonna play a game like Halo Reach with 100ms input lag? Let's not forget games with Natal support has now been gimped due to the required 10-15% of processing power.

AngryHippo6010d ago

Seriously , I don't see why you or and any other PS3 so called 'fanboys' are concerning themselves with this. It won't effect you unless you intend to play it and actually own one.

So much negativity around something that hasn't been shown running any sort of hardcore game. At least wait until more is shown until sprouting negativity around the whole idea of natal.

vhero6010d ago

I think Natal should be dropped from big releases like Halo Reach because it requires processing power on top of the required power for the game. It will ruin big releases if anything. I wouldn't say gimping them but this is another example of MS playing things dangerously. They are basically taking 10-15% capability's away from power to run the game for a gimmick that may not take off its a big risk especially on their biggest franchise.

MaximusPrime6010d ago

im not too sure about "hardcore"

Maybe hardcore will enjoy Natal but for a short while. Probably get bored with it and go back using controller. it will be easier for them to play with controller and sit down and relax.

Natal should mainly focus on family fun and not too much on hardcore gaming.

Omega46010d ago

Well there's gonna be some hardcore games cause i dont see devs like Bethesda making shovelware

cyborg69716010d ago (Edited 6010d ago )

Anything with waggle is shovelware. Does MS really think that they can't keep up with the BS on the hardcore gamers will love this. Come on get real. All of the natal lovers I have one question for you. Where were you when all of the hate for the wii was being spread around? Undoubtedly spread by the same peeps loving natal that's where.

Foxgod6010d ago (Edited 6010d ago )

I Own a wii, and a 360.
While one person is not the complete demograph of all 360 gamers out there.
I can easily tell you have no proof to backup your statements that all natal lovers are former wii haters.

So plz stop pulling statements out of thin air, get off your downers, and use your brains for once.

@below,
People who pull things from tin air can never hit a nerve on me.
I simply spread logic, and send illogical comments where they belong, to limbo.

And yes, my middle name is downer, because i lay people like you down on their ass.

cyborg69716010d ago

My brains work fine and I asked a far question apparently I hit a nerve with you foxy didn't I. If your response had not come off as defensive maybe I wouldn't be lumping you in with the wii haters as I and the vast majority of others are now, oh and I could use some downers not ones like you just the real thing.

Bigpappy6010d ago (Edited 6010d ago )

In fact most of the hate for the Wii came from the PS3 camp. PS3 fanboys have a habit of hating anything no made by Sony. Many 360 owners were wii60 owners early on when you guys were hating on the Wii. It is ironic that now you have to support what is a direct copy of the Wii mote which is not even done as well as the Wii because you have to use the six axis in one hand with it, as shown in the RE5 demo. Natal is nothing like the Wii or doesn't use a mote. You can easily use the 360 controller with Natal because it does require a stick in your hand. Most 360 owners welcome Natal. Most PS3 owners hate it (I could never understand why that is). I knew Natal would set you guys in a rage. Well you need to quit your jobs or school, or what eva and spend the rest of the year trying to debunk all that M$ and developers say about Natal. Just no that despite your best efforts Natal will sell millions as you sit at home lonely still playing UC2.

Aquarius6010d ago (Edited 6010d ago )

"PS3 fanboys have a habit of hating anything no made by Sony."

Just to remind you that the media since the PS3 had been released has been anti-SONY 80% of the time. It's around the 30% mark now.

"It is ironic that now you have to support what is a direct copy of the Wii mote"
Nintendo COPIED EYEPLAY and turned it into WIIPLAY

I believe SONY had prototypes of the wand before 2006 ;)

"Many 360 owners were wii60 owners early on when you guys were hating on the Wii."

Oh really ^_^
And how would you prove this? Wii and PS3 launched right next to each other. All the hate was directed at the PS3.
Wii sold well because of hype and it being cheap ( still selling well but has drastically decreased ). PS3 retailed for £450, nearly half a grand. Wii £179.
I bought a Wii and I'm glad to have played some of the best games this gen: LOZ:TP, SMG, MPC ( played some NGC games as well while I had it )
The media bias was so strong...they wanted the PS3 to fail. In other words: jealously.

I wasn't really hyped for the Wands to begin with that much but recently hearing of 3-D and its only a firmware update away, count me in.

"Just no that despite your best efforts Natal will sell millions as you sit at home lonely still playing UC2."

How's HALO 3 still doing for you? Still trying to finish the fight? Awwwww
