Starhawk - Right Around The Corner?

Back in April '09 SCEA registered the Starhawk trademark which spawned all sorts of speculation as to how deep the sequel to Warhawk would be, since then SCEA has been walking on eggshells with the infor on this title.

Warhawk is still one of the best online experiences on PS3 imo, I put a ton of time into that game and enjoyed the hell out of it. Split screen with buddies was also great fun.

This part makes me happy and hopefully is true: "Not to mention the game not holding your hand when you aim your weapon as well"

Really wasnt too keen on that aspect of the game although I did spend most of my time in the air.

But I have high hopes for Starhawk and just hope it makes it out this fall.

NateNater6011d ago

Yea I hope Starhawk has online split screen just like Warhawk. Thats why I bought the game in the first place. We need more info on this game!

Dutch Boogie6011d ago (Edited 6011d ago )

yeah i can't wait to see what Starhawk is all about. The possibilities are exciting. I would love to see them amp up the player count while keeping the graphics and frame rate smooth.

Foliage6011d ago

I never did play warhawk, but had I known about the splitscreen I would most certainly have picked it up.

balls.

SoapShoes6011d ago

Warhawk still has a large community, you should still pick it up!

sikbeta6011d ago

Yeah SIR!!!

Warwawk is Awesome, this game will be no different

Starhawk FTW!!!

guitarded776011d ago

Yeah, I can't wait for Starhawk!! Hope the improvements are great... really interested it what the article says about taking a Zipper approach and making the battles huge. 100 vs 100 would be awesome on some big maps.

I check Dylan Jobe's twitter everyday hoping for just a small peek at the game. Even if it's just those pics with the computer monitors partially blacked out. If Lucasarts refuses to give me Star Wars Battlefront 3, at least I have LBI making Starhawk!

TOO PAWNED6011d ago

i hope there is single player AND that controls are made ala Uncharted 2, controlling in Warhawk was uplayable FOR ME, not i repeat FOR ME, not YOU but FOR ME. That's for those that run to click disagree without paying attention what is written

thor6011d ago

Actually I think the auto-aim was right to be in the game. It meant that the game was more about strategy than who could pull off the quickest headshot like in CoD. In fact I would have HATED Warhawk had it been about carefully aiming your rifle. It was about who had the biggest gun and which team had the best strategy. For example, if you have a rocket launcher vs. a hovering Warhawk, you win because it locks on. If you have a flamethrower at close range vs. a rifle, you win because it does more damage. Without auto-aim, the rifle player would always win because they could just take time to aim at your head. No auto-aim would turn it into another generic shooter which requires nothing but aiming skills and quick reflexes which is NOT what Warhawk is about.

thor6011d ago

Ok, I'll agree with you that YOU found it impossible to control, but I will also call you a total noob. Noob.

Marceles6011d ago

I played Warhawk this morning and was able to get first place after my first game after not playing since September. I forgot how fun the game was. Honestly there wasn't alot of people playing though...maybe about 5 live servers from the UK. Then again it was today at 10 am so...maybe more people tonight. It's definitely the most fun I've had playing a multiplayer game shooter on PS3though. I gotta put it up there with Killzone 2 and Uncharted 2.

irepbtown6011d ago

I only play Warhawk the demo, still runs fine with lots of people. I could play it for hours, i wish i had the full game.
Can't wait for StarHawk.

NegativeCreepWA6011d ago

Thor your defending auto-aim and have the nerve to call some a noob.

I can understand some auto-aim in a game like Warhawk, but it has way to much.

ThanatosDMC6011d ago (Edited 6011d ago )

Day 1 for me! Gotta love Warhawk. For those that just got a PS3. Get the game. I saw it for $14.99 at Gamestop. It's well worth it. But it's a steep uphill death game. You'll die a lot first but it'll be fun. Yes, people are merciless.

Warhawk has a little training mission. I never tried it but im sure the basics are there. Never use a Warhawk with that Advance Pilot thing in which your Warhawk doesnt auto level itself. It's great for bombing runs but not for air to air combat.

Auto Aim is perfect in Warhawk. If it's rifle vs rifle either start chucking nades or crouch or start jumping. I usually use a sniper rifle (no auto aim) for close quarters though for a one hit kill. Without auto aim a Warhawk wont be able to hit anything during air to air.

cyberwaffles6009d ago

yeah, i greatly miss warhawk now. it was such a good game and great to play split screen with. i've had some bad ass "warhawk moments" (akin to battlefield moments) with kick ass music playing in the background and man, it was nothing but bliss.

PimpHandHappy6011d ago

dont listen to him

buying the game now would mean your playing the HARDEST of the hardcore players and would get owned

i love warhawk and its worth the buy but just know what your getting into

SoapShoes6011d ago

Seeing as I just got it and am not getting unfairly owned by better players. There are rookie servers just for newbies and sure vets create new accounts to own noobs, but most in the rookie servers are new newbies.

Once you rank up, then yes, you will be playing against really hard players but that's the same way for any game. I don't see why that's so bad anyhow because all you have to do is play and get good yourself.

mastiffchild6011d ago

Plus, if you check the forums there's often people actually willing to tutor you! I remember one guy(won't name him)who used to do that in private games for newcomers teaching them proflight, missile evasion and other flight techniques and he wasn't, by any means, the only guy doing similar sorts of things! I've found it the best online community of all theb console games I've played this generation for this kind of thing personally as I didn't get right into Warhawk at launch but besides TF2 it's prolly the game I've played most of on consoles for online play. I've put loads of hours in and have persevered even though I didn't find it the easiest game, for me, to master. the long, rewarding learning curve is one of it's best points and for such, apparently, arcadey action it's surprisingly deep and complex to become any good at ansd even now I'll find I'm picking up new things so Starhawk will be just about the most highly anticipated release for multiplayer ever in my house and certainly for a console offering.

I would always adviose someone to have a go at Warhawk for a week , even this late on, as though it won't be for everyone if you CAN get good enough on the rookie servers to enjoy playing with highewr ranks then it's sucjh a great game that it should be essential for anyone who has a PS3 and likes their competitive MP games. Great, great game that I can't really knock as though it didn't have the SP campaign we'd all have loved(how cool would it now be to have some frame of reference for playing as the Chernovans or Eucadians?)it to have it was still priced fairly and as a purely online game was available at half retail price and in good headset bundles as well.

The other great reason(beyond all those that go with a true great like W'hgawk anyway)to still bother if you haven't yet is for preparation for Starhawk/whatever the sequel's to be called when it arrives. The game controls so well and satisfyingly that it would prolly be wise(and currently def cheap enough)to learn the basics on the current game as EVERYONE into W'hawk will be jumpingh in day one to the sequel and you're best off not lagging behind too far as some of these guys are amazing-though there's still very few people you come across with a Warhawk platinum even now compared to other games!

I still have a few games every week to keep my hand in(trhough I'm not great even now!)and there's always loads of opeople playing and plenty of servers full of whatever rank and whatever game tyupe you fancy playing.

As for Starhawk:Cannot wait as Dylan made a great job of the first game and expanding to space AND adding SP and, hopefully, co-op would be even more incredible than the original game and might even give us some hisory so we know more about why we were fighting in the first place! The maps should be amazing too with spacestations, spaceports as well as planetary and moon based ones being possible, no? As long as the ground and airborne is still well balanced and controls not altered wiildly I fail to see why it shouldn't be just as good in MP as Warhawk still is today and it should also look a lot more sharp this time around as we see people get a lot more out of PS3 these days with KZ2 showing that it doesn't have to reduce clarity or detail online either. If they can get a co-op or SP camopaign to match the online quality as well then we're in for one hell of a game from Mr Jobe and his new , concentrated team post Incognito! BTW, what happened with Incognito themselves? Did they sack Hardware2? Are they working on something completely new? Surely there's GOT to be somethiung coming from them soon that we haven't seen anything of as since the last W'hawk DLC they've, IIRC, been completely silent and with DJ not being tied to them anymore we might be looking at two games rather than the one, yes? Hope so anyway.

DaTruth6011d ago (Edited 6011d ago )

They use to have four different playing levels; Then they merged them all into one and created a rookie server.

Once they threw me in with the generals, I was getting owned left, right and center; And I was pretty good at that game ranking 1st and 2nd in almost all my games. But those dudes had logged 1000's of hours when I was at 150; They can blow you away with a pistol no sweat... and your in a Warhawk!!!(abandoning the game for awhile to play Uncharted didn't help either)

Needless to say, that was the end of ranked servers for me!

thor6011d ago

Whilst you are exaggerating a bit, I agree that the highest-ranked players are stupidly good at the game.

Though they couldn't kill a warhawk with a pistol, grenade maybe ;) In fact the greatest skill you can have is to make the right strategic decisions - which vehicle to use, when to bail out, which weapons to collect and in which order, which weapon to use in a given situation, when to persue a kill and when not to. Being able to escape any situation helps as well :)

GrandTheftZamboni6011d ago

What you say is common sense, but I was surprised that I was one of the top players in a match after 5-6 months break. If I remember correctly there were some 4-500K ranked players last summer, few weeks ago there were about 1 million. I guess there are a lot of new players. That would partly explain why I was fairly good after a long break. I think real shock comes after advancing and having to play only with high ranked players.

i 4got about the rookie servers

best online game on PS3 that isn't a FPS
i think its better then MW2 but its just something about MW2 that wont let me go

walken76011d ago

I was gonna just argue your point, but you were mature enough to admit a mistake and clarify. A rarity on these forums.
I recently jumped online and haven't played in a long time. I got into a room and was well matched with other players. (Better matching since the last update I think.

jack_burt0n6011d ago

Only thing is I want the game to be more colonywars/freespace than warhawk. Think i will be disappointed.

FunAndGun6011d ago

I can not wait to hear more info about Starhawk! Warhawk is easily my favorite and most exciting multiplayer game this gen so far.

There are so many options on how to play the game and what you can do.

Look I know VIII has its issues and all that but how on earth can the do big anniversary events with new artwork and merchandise for VII, IX and X yet VIII got sweet f*** all.

They could have given it something during its 25th anniversary yet all it got was a single Happy Anniversary post on their social media.

solideagle55d ago

they should know that we are OG fans of VIII as it sold truckload as well. not as much as VII or X. I personally didn't like IX but X and VI are my personal fav.

Shadow Hearts 2 covenant is another game I love. I hope one day someone can make remake, I would be delighted

Underrated comment. I used to hate that game so much that any time my siblings asked me to play it, I just picked Hom and shut myself down mid-match.

PlayStation legend Shuhei Yoshida says Jim Ryan fired him because he didn't listen to him

Why did Sony push Shuhei Yoshida out of his role leading PlayStation's first-party games? He'd overseen some huge successes. Well, apparently, he didn't listen.

Relientk7764d ago

Yeah I can see that for sure. Shuhei Yoshida should have been in charge not Jim Ryan.

Cacabunga64d ago

It should be free highway for him now.. but Sony are too stupid to see this, especially that moron Hulst

S2Killinit63d ago (Edited 63d ago )

Wtf why all that anger. PlayStation is dominating on every level. Besides I think there is a little more to hiring a CEO than just who is available. Its not like its a athlete your team wants to buy.

neutralgamer199263d ago

S2Killinit

live service failures, chasing trends, closing studios. yes dominating

Cacabunga63d ago

Sony is Dominating because competition is not existing. Compared to previous gens this is the poorest in terms of software offerings.

Last gen we got Uncharted 4 Lost Legacy and TLOU2 from ND alone.

This is so far a remasters gen, with no competition to lift up the quality

1nsomniac63d ago (Edited 63d ago )

..."PlayStation is dominating on every level"....

...Really???

PlayStation are soon heading into a new generation in the not to distant future. They currently have the worst customer satisfaction they've ever sustained as a company. The company is heading for a huge crash while at the same time they'll need to be planning how they are going to try and win back that favour and the build up to their new releases.

Yes financially they're winning but they're going to have to ride out this complete public corporate disaster. No one has faith in the company or the product anymore. They've damaged their public image so much this generation. Greed can kill anyone.

medman63d ago

Hulst is a disaster......

He would've done the same thing and fire Jim Ryan and Shuhei would be the villain. Why?
Because Elite creates the narrative and distraction for gamers, users and citizens.

Outside_ofthe_Box64d ago

More confirmation that Jim Ryan is the culprit for what has happened to Sony. Hulst needs to go too. What sucks is that a lot of the good top heads at Sony are no longer there. I wish that guys that were forced out prematurely by Dumbo Jimbo like Shuhei and Layden came back.

robtion63d ago

Yep. Yoshida was responsible for bringing one of the best games of this generation to playstation (Stellar Blade). He is an actual gamer and is in touch with what gamers want (creative, fun games, not GaaS and agenda pushing). He also seems like a genuinely nice guy if you watch some interviews. Of course they got rid of him.

darthv7264d ago

Makes you wonder if MS even thought about hiring him after Phil and Sarah were leaving. He certainly couldn't make their situation any worse.

Agent7563d ago

Microflop. After Windows XP and Xbox 360, it all went floppy.

S2Killinit63d ago

Floppy 😆
No pun intended

badz14964d ago

Yoshida for President! Jim Ryan was and always be a hack! Sony should get Shu back

Lightning7764d ago

All the gamer/consumer lead heads are gone across PS and Xbox. shuhei gone phil's gone (questionable) but gone. The future of gaming is somewhat uncertain across the board.
