Hackers claim to have found way to play copied software on Sony's previously impervious console
With piracy rife in the Wii, Xbox 360, DS and PSP markets, the PS3 has to date proved the only current-gen machine to successfully fend off the hackers (possibly hindering its hardware sales in the process?) – but it seems that things could be about to change.

Square Enix launches Final Fantasy X 25th anniversary site, revealing new Nomura art, books, music releases, and merchandise.
Look I know VIII has its issues and all that but how on earth can the do big anniversary events with new artwork and merchandise for VII, IX and X yet VIII got sweet f*** all.
They could have given it something during its 25th anniversary yet all it got was a single Happy Anniversary post on their social media.

A brutal reset, a smarter story, and a return to what made it great—Mortal Kombat (2011) revived the series.
15 years went by so fast. I remember playing through the story mode at launch.

Why did Sony push Shuhei Yoshida out of his role leading PlayStation's first-party games? He'd overseen some huge successes. Well, apparently, he didn't listen.
Yeah I can see that for sure. Shuhei Yoshida should have been in charge not Jim Ryan.
More confirmation that Jim Ryan is the culprit for what has happened to Sony. Hulst needs to go too. What sucks is that a lot of the good top heads at Sony are no longer there. I wish that guys that were forced out prematurely by Dumbo Jimbo like Shuhei and Layden came back.
Makes you wonder if MS even thought about hiring him after Phil and Sarah were leaving. He certainly couldn't make their situation any worse.
All the gamer/consumer lead heads are gone across PS and Xbox. shuhei gone phil's gone (questionable) but gone. The future of gaming is somewhat uncertain across the board.
Who would go through all that trouble to pirate a PS3 game? Its expensive also. You'd need a bluray burner, and blurays, which is costly. On top of that, you'd need to download 25 gigs of data. I buy maybe 5 PS3 games a year, no need for piracy.
it may help hardware sales but it would definately hinder software sales. The wii/360/DS/PSP have certainly seen lower software sales that they could have done without piracy. Sony needs more people to buy ps3 games not just pirate them.
Unless it's easy or cheap NOBODY is going to bother. 99% of people haven't even installed linux on their PS3s. Nonwithstanding the fact that Linux is hard as hell to use for most people and command line is not most peoples idea of a good time and takes a while to learn. Even if they have pirated it, the sheer difficulty of learning another OS which is mainly command line will turn most of people off.
And, that's probably as far as they get. A handful of titles, lengthy workarounds for little more than to say "we did it", rather than widespread piracy.
I remain sceptical though, every single hack thus far as been faked and, I say, until there's proof this one is the same.
Guess all they need now is a proliferation or BR burners. Hacks that will let you run games off the HDD or an external.
