Brand new video from the upcoming Crysis mod X32I Redemption.

2nd video has nice graphics but i dont fully understand the gameplay ....... yet

fourteentoone5984d ago (Edited 5984d ago )

Hi, I'm responsible for audio on this game (I compose the music, and co-create the sound effects and oversee dialogue)

Basically, the gameplay is going to be in the style of TIE Fighter / Freespace.

You'll do a bunch of missions for the United Earth Alliance, fighting against the Terran Chacne that follow a pretty linear campaign that will allow you to take part in a pretty epic story.

Pretty soon, we'll have a video shot from the players point of view (i.e. the view you will see when playing the game and shooting stuff!) - as opposed to this trailer (video 1) which is a cinematic view of the gameplay that will be possible.

Regarding the whole sound in space issue and treating it realistically, I think what we all need to remember here is that sci-fi, is short for science-'fiction'.

From talking to other people / developers, I got the impression that one of the reasons they got into sci-fi in the first place was because of some of the iconic sounds that have been created. Equally, I think sound can help greatly to tell a story, and with this project, we are building a game around a story. Thus, anything that will make the story better or more dramatic, we will consider. I'm sure some plot device could be included that enable people to hear sound travel through space (cough...Shattered Horizon...cough!)

Anyway, we still have AGES to go, and these things will be discussed much more, of that I have no doubt!

Thanks for the interest and comments. We understand we won't be able to please everyone, but we'll do our best!!!

If Crysis comes exclusively on the PlayStation 3, it would be amazing. This engine + cell==FTW!

M337ING5984d ago (Edited 5984d ago )

What are you talking about?

The original Crysis was on PC and boasted visuals beyond what the PS3 is capable of. They managed to create an engine that works on PS3 and Xbox 360 as well for Crysis 2, but the PC version will look even better than the original game. However, the console versions of Crysis 2 will look worse than Crysis, because they're using what is nearly half-decade-old hardware...

ryhanon5984d ago

Haven't you heard? Sony travelled through time and brought the cell processor back with them from the year 2318. It is capable of anything, developers are simply too ignorant to take advantage of its full potential.

XxSpiiKeZxX5984d ago

and besides you would need a high class pc just to have the full experience of visuals, thtz what i hate about pc games
and yet all it takes for a console is a tv; sure you need an hd tv coupled with HDMI to show ful effect but at least you get similar experiances on a tv. so F*** PC GAMES

Blaster_Master5984d ago (Edited 5984d ago )

yeah, it definitely has the processor to run Crysis at least @ 720p and 30 fps. Too bad the ps3 has a crappy gpu. On the other hand, they could use the cell and spe's for graphics. Crysis wasn't even a good game, just good tech anyways so it doesn't matter to me. Unless they make Crysis 2 good, but I highly doubt it.

fossilfern5984d ago

am i the only one who wants to see a new Elite game with this engine? it would be amazing :D

Why do SPACE FIGHTERS need wins?

Look before you say... our space shuttles have wings. That's because they are launched in an atmosphere and then land in one two. THEY NEED THE WINGS to land and a bit to take off.

The craft are landing in a place with no atmosphere and thus the wins are COMPLETELY useless. And I highly doubt these fighters would need to land on the planet.... that's what landing craft are for.

ryhanon5984d ago (Edited 5984d ago )

I agree with you in principle, wings are often used in a fictional setting for no apparent reason (other than perhaps aesthetic purposes).

To play devil's advocate for a moment though, sometimes wings are beneficial to small spacecraft even if they are never intended for atmospheric entry. The reason being that setting thrusters further out from the center of a craft gives it added maneuverability. Take the Starfury fighters from Babylon 5 for instance ( http://www.b5tech.com/earth... ), very maneuverable fighters because the thrusters are set at the ends of the wings. Unlike say, an X-Wing, which has a similar wing structure but the thrusters are instead clustered around the body, making it less maneuverable (though in the X-Wings defense, atmospheric entry was desired, so the wings made sense).

mrv3215984d ago

Yet if we look at modern jet design the engines are allways on the main body, while stability was good pre-computer days now it's calculated and modern aircraft and fighters are as unstable as possiple to increase menuverability.

Why are space fighter so aerodynamic after all there's LITTLE friction in space.

And as such the best space ship goes to

http://stargate.wikia.com/w...

For actually being more scientific.

ryhanon5984d ago

Modern jet design has little to do with it though. A modern jet is certainly capable of quite a bit of maneuverability, but nothing like the maneuvers you'd expect a small spacecraft to perform (quickly turning in place 360 degrees in all directions, flying sideways, flying backwards, to give just a few examples) - likely due to the physical impossibilities while under the effects of a planets gravity and atmosphere.

There are plenty of good designs in modern fiction that can be pointed to, the puddle jumper being one of them. I think though that the desired purpose of the spacecraft is what ultimately dictates its design - well that, and aesthetics anyway.

Here's a couple of other questions for you regarding some of the sillier aspects of science fiction like this...

In typical sci-fi shows/movies/etc... why is it that spaceships always encounter each other in such a way that they're oriented in the same direction? What I mean by that is, why do two ships never encounter each other such that one of them appears upside down, or on its side with respect to the other ship? After all, there is no "up" or "down" in outer space, yet everyone seems to orient themselves in the same way.

Also, why is it that nobody (other than 2001 and Firefly) recognizes that sound does not travel in space?

The answers, much like the question about wings I suppose, probably have more to do with aesthetics and entertainment value than anything else I imagine.

mrv3215984d ago

I don't get your point regarding sound, I haven't seen a star trek episode for example when they are talking over space. If you mean the hail well while sound does not travel through space over things do. Infra Red for example.

I do get the whole face to face to bit something I just noticed.

Heres another things. Why is the universe flat? I've seen countless fighter space craft with a tilt indicator. Space isn't a flat surface BUT a empty, their is no up or down just being... and as such don't you find it strange that ALWAYS all fighters meet completely flat...

SCI-FI should be based atleast more in reality. I know it's sci-fi but the people who are watching are intelligent people we know when you are just making stuff up just to make stuff fit.

ryhanon5984d ago

I never thought about the tilt indicator but now that you mention it, that's a pretty good point. The only thing I could guess might be the purpose is if it is meant to indicate to the pilot when they were properly lined up for docking purposes... perhaps you "lock on" to a vessel with which you intend to dock and the tilt indicator is used to help line that up.

As for sound, I'm primarily referencing the sounds of thrusters, weapons, etc... Given that sound doesn't travel in space, whenever the Enterprise fires a phaser or torpedo, it should give no sound. Whenever an X-Wing blows up a TIE fighter, there should be no sound. There are very, very few examples (as I mentioned, 2001 and Firefly/Serenity are the only two I can think of) where this is treated realistically.

mrv3215984d ago

Brilliant point regarding sound. I now get what you ment and I agree it's pretty stupid but it is possiple. In a recent project regarding the univere they have been able to listen to the sun, while sound does not travel through space people are able to hear the sun due to messuring the surface and other stuff I do not understand

Playing it right now looks amazing! :D
so much fun, i hope they make a vr mod for crysis 2 / 3 too!

DivineHand125483d ago

This is amazing. This is the direction VR should go in to boost adoption. Since I have beaten every Crysis except 1, this is now a good excuse to correct that problem.

Crytek Wanted Crysis To Be "Future-Proof"

According to Crytek CEO Cervat Yerli, "I want[ed] to make sure Crysis does not age, that [it] is future proofed, meaning that if I played it three years from now, it should look better than today." Yerli and the team designed Crysis' highest graphical settings for the PC hardware of 2010 and beyond.

While Crytek has officially announced Crysis 4 is in development, nothing new has surfaced. For now, gamers' only way to scratch that itch is to play the Crysis Remastered Trilogy available on PC and consoles.

OG 2007 Crysis (not the remastered weirdo), is & will forever be a legend amongst the PC community.

PrinceOfAnger488d ago

This video will always be impressive to me, even for years to come. Some things here are better than games we have today, OG crysis is the best version!

RaidenBlack487d ago

OG Crysis physics, man ... amazing! Thanks for the reminder!

PrinceOfAnger487d ago (Edited 487d ago )

Looks really nice with VR mod too

FinalFantasyFanatic487d ago

I'm still shocked that it looks as good as it does today, puts some modern games to shame.

Profchaos486d ago

I thought the remaster was fine tbh some rough edges at launch but after some patches it's decent

isarai487d ago

I mean the lighting and physics still hold up extremely well. I still revisit it from time to time.

RedDeadLB487d ago

That CPU performance thing is preventing it.

isarai486d ago

Yeah unfortunately Crystek's decision to bet on the linear progression of clock speed in CPUs was derailed by the unforseen shift towards multicore CPUs. It just wasn't built with that in mind because that wasn't even in the conversation at the moment

DivineHand125487d ago

I remember when I tried to play Crysis with my Intel Pentium Dual core E2200 @2.2GHz , 4GB ram and GeForce 9400gt. I was a kid back then and that was the best I could do. I would get about 15 to 20 fps. When I over clocked the CPU to 2.8GHz I would get about 40fps. The experience wasn't good at all and it was the only PC game I could not run back then unless and put the settings on low. At that point the game went from cutting edge graphics to PS2 graphics. To this day I haven't completed the OG Crysis. I was able to complete Crysis 2 and 3 after building a new PC when I got my first job.

HyperMoused487d ago

Never played it, worth a try you think?

Profchaos486d ago (Edited 486d ago )

Worth a try just because it's the only game that lets you pick up a turtle on the beach and throw it at enemy soldiers that should have been a back of the box feature.

But nah seriously unless you're nostalgic for it I'm not sure if it will hold up

Crytek went so overboard on the Crysis tech and sent devs to photograph leaves in Haiti

"The shader work that came out of this was mind-blowing at times."

RaidenBlack500d ago

Amazing, often misunderstood
The dumb AI was deliberate, so that the players can explore and experiment with the world and all the features.

vTuro24499d ago

It really is. Most people only remember it for its graphics but the gameplay was equally amazing.

RaidenBlack500d ago

Hope they try to pour nearly same amount of dedication to the new Crysis 4

DefenderOfDoom2500d ago

Well worth the extra work ! I enjoyed all 3 Crisis games and would also love a new one .

JunonZanon500d ago (Edited 500d ago )

Still wish game development was overall this passionate and minutious about their projects. Obviously, there are still some great studios as exceptions.

LikAChicken499d ago

I’ll never forget Far Cry 2 and the amount of details they packed in.

Yea there were some issues with the gameplay loop and the sickness aspect but you could tell they really tried to nail details.

DivineHand125499d ago

I haven't beaten the first Crysis but I did play Crysis 2 and Crysis 3. I know some PC players were annoyed by the last 2 games being developed with consoles in mind but I believe it was an improvement. I had a great time with Crysis 3 to the point where I believe it was too short.
