natal is a ps eye toy upgrade thats it.

since when does america= the entire world (granted the largest one that buys gaming hardware). For example the ps3 out sold the 360 worldwide despite beating it in america (which in all honesty put up a hell of a fight in 360's strongest territory)

I just got done putting in 15 hours in Dragon Quest Swords The Masked Queen and the Tower of Mirrors and I must say even without motion plus the game is the shiznit. Now add Sony's true 1:1 motion with 1080p graphics, and I get this overwhelming urge to go in the corner and you know the rest.

My only concerns with Natal seem to have been addressed namely

support - Activision, EA, Bioware, Bungie,Ubisoft, Konami, Capcom, Kojima Productions and Yasuhiro Wada have all pledged support for it. But it remains to be seen how soon their games will release and how much innovation they can provide

physical controls - Playing with only Natal will be great for some games but i can see it translating well to every single genre. Microsoft have said several times that there will be Natal only games, Natal+Controller games (hybrids) and controller only games. That to me is brilliant.

Price - If that leaked document reported by MCV a few weeks ago is true about Natal costing between £30-£50 is true, then they sure will get my money.

My problem with the Sony Wand however comes down to

Support: I have not heard a lot of 3rd parties show any enthusiasm over the product and Ubisoft has gone on record to say they will have 4 - 6 games both casual and core games for the device in 6 months but 10 for Natal.And the release line-up that Sony showed for the wand was pretty unimpressive, though i know they will have more games later. But the wand can not rely on 1st party alone.

2nd price/multiplayer gaming: The PSeye costs £39.99, now how much is the wand going to cost? My bet is £15 but i will not use the wand with the controller, so i will have to buy 2. Now can one PSeye track multiple wands they way Natal can track multiple players or can it only track 2? Because i always buy 4 controllers for every console i have ever owned that supports 4 player gaming for when my friends come over, so do i have to buy 4 pseyes and 8 wands?Thats over £240.

But as i said, i am enthusiastic to see what they come up with because i believe graphics are fine the way they are, so the gaming experience needs to be pushed in a new direction and i believe motion devices is the way to go.

they saw what sony was doing with the camera and are trying to beat them to the punch.just like releasing early,hd-dvd,movies on demand,and games like forza.trying to be sony before sony does what sony does.

Neither. Both are equally garbage.

They both will cater to their respective audiences, but I find myself going with PS3's motion controller as I require something physical in my hand. Natal is PSEye, only augmented in terms of capabilities: but I'm interested to see how far MS will support it and how far they'll push that tech. If they support it enough, I think it will do fine.

lifespan-wise:

Natal - going to be on ebay shortly after 3 months.

PS motion control - at least 2 years.

Looking at Japan point of view, most Japanese will be enjoying PS motion more than Natal. As former Wii owners, they prefer to carry on using physical tool to play games on PS3.
I just cant see how successful Natal will be.
Without decent games, success will be very minimal. in another word, flop.

The Sony motion controller will actually make practical sense for hardcore games like God of War and other titles. Natal just doesn't make sense for any of the big 360 titles.

Have any tried Burnout on the ps3 using the sixaxis to steer? well thats how close you're going to get with natal. One thing I can tell ya, you won't be playing long. Even with some kind of physical feedback it won't just cut it. just try it out if you have ps3 download the demo and use the sixaxis to steer it may be fun but will take alot out of ya just by holding it in the air.

You guys are oblviously fanboys of Sony and you’re not doing any research.

1. M$oft has really opened up development and added tools for developers , Like starting this year developers will be able to require the hard drive for x360 games. You will also see more multiple disc games negating the data capacity advantage for blu -ray. Beside the only games that can’t be done on multiple discs are sandbox games.
2. if you had completely read the M$ofts website instead of jumping to fanboydom you would have clearly seen that Natal is indeed more that meets the eye.

Listen You have NO knowledge, NO facts just sceptisism. Do some research. You saw Natal in its pre- alpha stage. You talk about 1 to 1 movement on the Ps3 wand and thats great but it doesn't work in the dark with the camera the Natal does it can see in the dark.
Also you say M$oft can't use a controller or a wand periphial of it's own but look it up those things have already been patented by M$oft. You suggest that Natal has no gaming potential when you act like a fanboy.
I’ll give you all a couple of examples. Another article came out a while ago covering UC2 the best looking game CURRENTLY.

and thats the point when everyone says that the nvidia gpu in the ps3 is weak. The cell has to do all of the work typically done by the gpu just so the nvidia gpu can concentrate on it's rendering resposibility's. Thats why you hears xbots saying the x360 has a more powerful gpu, it does, its actually the main proccessor in the x360 not it's cpu. Does that make the x360 more powerful than the ps3, NO. What it does mean is that the ps3 has a far more advanced cpu to aid it's average gpu, and the x360 has a more advanced gpu and an average cpu. At the end of the day none of it matters, its about the games and currently the ps3 has the best looking games, that doesn't mean that x360 games don't look good, but the best of the x360 RIGHT NOW don't look as good as the best of the ps3. That doesn't mean that it will stay like this, already developers are starting to let little slips of the tongue tell us stuff add this to some common sense digging and heres an idea of how I see the future of both consoles.

1. At E3 m$oft begin handing out new debug kits and new rules for x360 game development.

The new 1gb kit allows developers to utilize 64-128mb of memory that had been locked away from developers because the original debug kits only had 512mb worth of ram,"problem how are you supposed to run the debug program on top of your game if it maxes out the 512mb of memory? so most developers set aside 64-128mb of memory out of the game to run it.

2. The xeon gpu in the x360 was originally developed on the directx9 platform but had elements of directx10 and beyond.

Problem was many of these elements were locked to developers until the release of directx11 i.e. hardware based "tessellation", but with the release of directx11 and the new debug kits many of the gpu's hidden potential can only now be released.

3. Motion controls, while I actually think sony's wand will be more accurate, it has been publicly stated that it will require the use of some system resources and be dependent on the ps3 cpu the cell for its proccessing.

What difference do the motion controls make? A bunch M$oft said natal will be launched like a new console, epic let slip that they plan on shipping it with all x360's starting late 2010 and that M$oft plans on selling it to everyone else. The key here is that M$oft also let slip that natal will be using it's own custom designed proccessor, i.e. it won't use system recourses like the wand but will actually add to the x360's power, Now there were reports that the x360 would be redesigned and upgraded when natal came out, heres where m$oft learned something from sony, we all knew that the blu-ray drive in the ps3 was a trojan horse and it worked beautifully, mission accomplished it killed off hd-dvd. So I believe that mSoft won't be selling a upgrade that you can see, you see, natal IS a TROJAN HORSE, they confirmed that it will use it's own custom cpu, it stands to reason that it'll have it's own memory then too. And just how would you connect the natal to the x360, well usb of course. So and that to the fact that I looked up the specs for the x360 and it doesn't have normal usb ports instead they can be used as high speed transit port to the main cpu and memory. Hmmmmm.... so if what many sites reported immediately after the E3 unveiling of natal were in with the excitement of the developers and what we now know the x360 is getting an upgrade it just won't be done obviously. Some of those rumored specs were a six core chip, similar to the one in the x360 now double it's current memory (adding 1gb more worth of memory) and 4gb to 120gb flash memory or hdd space. M$oft no longer wants just a 5yr cycle and their reps have been quoted saying that natal will allow them to reach a 10yr cycle this gen...? Why is that? SIMPLY PUT NATAL IS A TROJAN HORSE DESIGNED TO UPGRADE THE X360'S CAPABILITIES, NOT JUST ADD MOTION CONTROL. More evidence is that almost universally developers journalist anybody in the know are concerned with its price, No ones concerned about sony's price even though you need the wand and a Playstation eye to make it work,(50...for eye+ 20-50 for a wand) and no ones concerned....? Now I did some research and assuming there using basic components the natal unit if it wasn't a trojan horse would be similar in price to the wand+eye combo, (it really only adds, if its not a trojan horse an additional camera and ir unit).

Already games like Halo Reach are showing us that the x360 still has legs and the freeing up of these new resources will give great games, and Natal way more than meets the eye.

4. ps3 will continue to improve and break new thresholds with its current configuration while M$oft upgrades the x360 through natal and we'll see some truly amazing games on it not thought possible before, even if it's cheating a little to do a mid-generation upgrade disguised as something else.

Get a Japanese PSN account made and download some of the videos from TGS 09, you can see RE5 using the wand and I think their was some other games shown using it.

From the burnout demo at E3 and all the other casual shovelware they showed their i think Natal will fail for the hardcore oehh lets smash balls back at a wall... Ps3 controller has potential after the e3 demo which was pretty much focused on the hardcore i can see it work. But im still happiest with a controller in my hand i game to relax not to stand around and smash balls at a wall or act like a retard pretending to be driving a car.

At the end of the day its just Microsoft and sony fighting for a crowd that is taken grandma dont care if its hd or sd. If Nintendo sees Sony and Microsoft as a danger for their slice of the pie they will just lower the wii to 120$ and nothing will touch it heck i would buy a wii.

This guy makes alot of sense. I mean i though natal was great and all but after seeing/researching more on it, i gotta say the magic Dildo looks like its gonna rape Natal in the @ss. I can see that natal needs alot of room in order to use and the main genre on the xbox360 is completely obsolete in the face of natal. Natal is a great step forward for the future but in terms of gaming it is a huge step backward. Dildo, on the other hand looks good since it can do RTS games and other stuff too complitcated for the Wii. I would love to play Demon's Souls with the Motion Controller

I like the ceoncept of Natal but the vid does make some great points how much can it reconize and how much space do yu need to use it. The point he did forget to make about Natal is howmuch will it cost tech demos are great everything works great. But you bring Natal home and the timing is off how much cash did you just waste. I would not mind trying out a FPS on it for something differant but they did not show how it would work. But the Wand has me interested in getting I have the eyetoy and its not doing anything if Sony got the port of Mad World for the PS3 and to use with the wand I would get it.

I always knew the PS wand (Gem...wateva the hell they decide to call it), had alot of potential in lots of areas, not just casual games. But I never realized how many flaws the Natal has...The delay is a major devastating problem which needs to be corrected (But knowing MS I wont just too be first to market).
Blackbuster makes a very good point about space...If your whole body is the controller from you feet to hands stretched above your head you going to need to be at least 8-10 feet away from the camera, I dont know about you but my console of choice is in my room and ive got about three feet between my bed and tv stand. And for people with not great eyesight that could also be bad!
Overall PS has done what they do best stick to whats plausible and do the best they can with it, and MS have jumped head first into something they obviously haven't thought through.
MS are definitely gonna add some sort of controller function, they have too or I can see some really sh1tty casual games not worthy of the 100-150 dollar pricetag (guessing-as its brand new tech).

I dont own a 360 my bro did and he had 4 RROD which put me off + Im a loyal Sony Supporter and always will be (and for good reason). The PS wateva will be more of a success due to the fact its using already successfully tech (Wii), just alot more advanced and precise. Time will tell if either Natal or the wand are worth it the dork behind the computer bashing Natal when they can only show so much with a certain time frame. The wand looked impressive as well and the ideas behind it are great aswell the one question I have is how much will Natal and the Wand cost me.

The PS3 motion controls have the advantage for obvious reason. I think the guy in the video did a good job illustrating the potential or lack of for both.

Microsoft will need to have more than brickbreaker type games in order to bring people on board the Natal train. Sony has actually already shown what they can do with the PS3 motion controls during the live demos at E3 and TGS. I can easily see myself playing LBP with motion controls with my girl.

Like the guy says Microsoft will have to create some games with facial recognition and speech recognition and not the motion controls because Natal motion controls doesn't fit for a lot of genres.

Motion controls is supposed to make games easier and more intuitive to play not the other way around. I think I would rather hold down R2 or RT for racing games than to suspend my arms in the air and move my feet back and forth.

I think the accuracy of Sony's motion controller and its versatility in terms of being applicable to a wide selection of genres is going to give it the advantage over the WiiMote and Natal.

Besides, sony has speech and facial recognition algorithms that work with the PSEYE so Natal really doesn't have any significant advantages.

Sony's motion control system can essentially do everything a WiiMote and Natal can do but a WiiMote can't do all of what Sony's Motion control system can do and Natal can't do all of what Sonys's Motion control system can do. Sony's motion control solution has the most accurate and gaming friendly implementation.

Besides, who do you really trust will be able to come up with the best games that take full advantage of their motion controls?...If the games that have already been released are any indication, I trust Sony to come up with the best motion controlled games in terms of quality and execution.

Previously, I would have said that Microsoft would do a better job at marketing their motion controls than Sony but Sony has stepped it up in the marketing department recently.

Furthermore, Sony will have first to market advantage over Microsoft which we have seen is very important this generation of consoles.

I already have a PSEye so I only have to pick up a wand which will probably be bundled with a motion game that I will be interested in. If Microsoft can improve accuracy and come up with compelling games that are executed well then Natal may be a reason for me to pick up an Elite. But from what I have seen and what I know of the limitations of the technology, I am doubtful.

Sony's will definitely be a success. The Wii is proven and the Eyetoy is proven even though Sony didn't market the Eye toy. Sony's motion solution refines and combines two proven motion solutions to make an ultimate motion solution. An advanced Eye toy which is the PSEYE + an advanced WiiMote which is the PS wand + speech and facial recognition algorithms for the PSeye + the best first party studios to execute motion games = Success

This guy really knows his stuff. I was just a M$ fanboy wanting something M$ told me was good. This video has open my eye, I will now get the PS3, the wand and 4 of those great games he said Sony demo'ed. M$ needs to do what Sony did and show real games. Too much lag with that Natal thing and they don't let everyone come up on stage and test it, like Sony did. MS had to resort to hiding they demos in the back room with the media and other professional gamers like Sugaray Leonard and Farmer from the lakers.

It's laughable how people are boasting how much 3rd party support is being offered for natal and, that's fine and all but, if people look at this from a logical standpoint sonys wand stands to benefit the most considering that last I heard 1st party support is better than 3rd party support, meaning more than likely sonys wand will have the backing of 20+ 1st party development studios not including 2nd party support and 3rd party support IMO.

There are to many bent fan boys in here and somebody's got to straighten them up. How could natal fail unless Microsoft totally flops on this like WinME; but this isn't the PC OS Universe or windows, this is the gaming industry were Microsoft has been doing a decent job this gen.

Natal could add ram and processing power to the xbox 360 which is great for 360 owners! Even if Microsoft sells this product at a lost (like Sony did with the PS3 and is still doing) its still great for business the main idea here is to get natal next to every existing and future 360 console.

Future AAA games like Gears, Halo and even multi platform titles like COD could now graphically look similar to that of many triple A Sony titles like Killzone 2. With the new dev kits, direct x upgrades, new dev engine (non epic), and Microsoft being a little more lenient with multiple disc for there games it looks like MS is planing a sneak attack.

Last point i have to make is that Natal doesn't have to force the 100% control free aspect into every game. Many games could incorporate natal and still use the traditional 360 controller! Imagine being able to call plays on the fly in EA's MADDEN 11 or call for a medic and your team to regroup in the next installment of Ghost Reacon Advanced Warfighter all with your voice.

I love NBA 2K and i would love to scan myself and then be inserted in the game. My face height and even weight all factored in, no more tedious player create menus. I could scan my jump shot form and free throw, create my own dunk or crossover and then bring my Jordan 1's kicks into the game as an accessory.

The ideas are endless.....Time Crisis meets Natal!(gun accessory still used with gesture commands for other game play elements i.e tapping mag compartment of gun to reload) Fallout meets Natal! Wii Fit meets Natal! It just keeps going on but to conclude my thoughts I'd like to simply say i don't think natal is just a camera and i don't think it will fail the worst it could do is decent which isn't horrible! MS has alternative motives.....

The PS 3 Wand needs an analog stick. I don't want to have a wand in the right hand and a DS 3 in the left hand. That would be a compromise.
Do a left hand version of the wand with triggers, stick and d-pad and a right hand version with face buttons and triggers. That in combination with the ps eye will allow any gaming experience possible today.

First of all, the wand is just NOT a wii remote for those who says that...heard of headtracking? yes its a more advanced wii indeed, but at least it gives you a sick experience of how to play the game when you have a headtracking....so wherever you move with your body left or right, the screen moves with you ...like you are in the game. Natal has no chance against this.. its just too clear for everybody...yes people will buy it because they get so stupid and can't see the real truth...but for gamers..they will def go for the sony wand...

Doesn't matter which one is technically superior. It's all going to come down to the games. Sony has the largest internal studio so i'm going with them. Microsoft just buys third party exclusives. Every 3rd party wii game can be ported to ps3 now.

You know guys it wouldn't hurt to just wait for these peripherals to come out before judging which is better or which is just a gimmick. In the end its the one with the most games supporting it that will be the winner.

I think a lot of you may be missing the point. I think Natal will be used in conjunction with a controller in most games. Think playing a fps and physically leaning slightly to look around a corner, the manipulation of in game objects with your hand, throwing a grenade by just making a throwing motion, a melee attack by physically throwing a quick hook. I think there's tons of potential if done correctly. I just see the playstation wand improving on the wii experience.

This gen hasn't been the best for games, last gen consoles are still out there and now there's been talk of the PS6 and Xbox Two for a year or so. Many games this gen will be ported to next gen and the cycle will continue. The re-release of the Neo Geo AES+, games on cartridge for £70 ($95), gaming is going back in time. Gaming has gone pricing mad with the high cost of games, consoles and controllers. The men and women at the top are clueless.

I miss the first three generations of PlayStation. The way they turned PS3 around, we knew they meant business. We were all worried for a bit there around launch. Eventually from 2008 they started shifting slowly. But since Yoshida was fired, it's never been the same. Still enjoy my PS5 daily. I got a backlog dating back to PS2 lol So I'm fine but new games aren't as appealing anymore.

It seems like we were thrown on to the worst timeline possible where everything is too expensive and the wrong people were put in positions that makes the world a shitty place. We could have had Shu as the head of PS but we got the shitty alternative. Same goes for everyone in power around the world. Doesn’t matter the company or country the majority of us got the shitty picks and the world is declining like never before. I do think PS can come out of this because of their studios, talent and IP but they need someone more in touch with gamers leading things like Shu was. They’re still the best place for console gaming imo but it could be much better than it is especially without the massive live service failures. The rest of the world I have a lot less hope for right now. Hopefully the pendulum swings back towards the good ole days but I’m preparing for the worst.

Jim Ryan is the reason why we are entering year 6 since the PS5 launch and many of us don't feel like the PS5 has gotten started as yet.
