The winner of the VGA's Action/Adventure Award was not Uncharted 2 like many hoped, but rather UbiSoft's Assassin's Creed 2!

Should have gone to UC2, but oh well. AC2 deserves as well...but UC2 was definitely the best. Not off to a good start are we VGAs?

darkequitus6011d ago (Edited 6011d ago )

I have not played AC2 yet, but I thought UC2 would have won it. On my 3rd go through.

MasFlowKiller6011d ago

u clearly havent played both games.

it should have been a race between batman arkham asylum and Uncharted 2

darkequitus6011d ago

Yest Batman was very good indeed.

blackpanther256011d ago (Edited 6011d ago )

I am the only one who thought ACII wasn't that hot.....I mean the graphics looked really bad in some scenes. The gameplay was good but I think people were hyping it up too much. Well maybe cause i wasn't a fan of the first game

@dread.....yeah i guess your right...no point taking it so seriously

deadreckoning6666011d ago (Edited 6011d ago )

Remember who voted guys..just remember who voted.

From what I understand half the votes came from the GAMERS and the other half comes from the CRITICS. I really don't see a fairer way of doing it.

@BlackPanther- Yep no point in taking it seriously. If you take a few seconds to think about it, u realize that it would be nearly impossible for Uncharted 2 to win GOTY. More gamers own MW2 over U2. Therefore, more votes will go to MW2 over U2.

Also, MW2 is multiplatform so it will get EVEN MORE votes because of that. Uncharted 2 won't win because many people don't own it, much less know of it.

Aceluffy6011d ago

I've played AC2, Platinum-ed it ( Damn feathers ) but I can't find in my mind that it's the best action adventure game, there's barely any stunts in that game, even when it's actually have action sequence, it's really slow paced, what the hell ?
Batman AA and UC2 definitely much better than this slow paced action game, I mean....we're talking about ACTION here, right ?

thereapersson6011d ago (Edited 6011d ago )

Uncharted 2 bundled so much in the game package, it more than justifies paying 60 dollars for the game. So many people complain that games these days aren't worth 60 bucks, but that isn't the case with U2. I'm sad that Naughty Dog's masterpiece didn't win the award, but at least it did manage to make it into the finals.

*shrug*

Assassin's Creed 2 is multiplatform, so I guess to keep their viewer base happy, they just went ahead and gave it to the best MULTIPLATFORM game of the year. I probably would have chosen Batman: Arkham Asylum over AC2, but hey, that's just my preference. I wonder if any of the VGA's judges even own PS3's, or play many games on it?

ThanatosDMC6011d ago

AC2 was great but not as epic as U2 if you compare them to each other. Oh well, what do you expect? U2 would have grabbed a lot of awards if it was fair.

evrfighter6011d ago

well it couldn't win in its own genre...I guess that means MW2 is going to take GoTY.

I'm still watching it. Only because Infinity Ward didn't win studio of the year.

Immortal Kaim6011d ago

Guys AC2 is an amazing game. I definitely don't agree with Hugh Jackman winning best 'Male voice acting' (or whatever the award was for), Nolan North should have gotten that I reckon. Oh well.

The real killer6011d ago

It will be not honest if it was a PS3 exclusive right? thats why they choose Assassin greed 2

kneon6011d ago

While AC2 was good, UC2 was GREAT! Uncharted definitely should have won.

jalen2476011d ago

I love AC 2 but come on Uncharted 2 should have won this category. I have a feeling that it won't be a good night for Uncharted 2.

morganfell6011d ago (Edited 6011d ago )

Let the UC2 snubbing begin. Here we go with the AC2 campaign for GOTY. Anything but a PS3 exclusive.

And while we are at it, remember all of the attacks on Killzone 2 because it had no Co-op? Where are the similar attacks on AC2 for no MP AND no Co-op?

rucky6011d ago (Edited 6011d ago )

Are all you people really taking the result of this so-called award show seriously? Jack Black won for f*ck sake. All for a retarded stunt.

thereapersson6011d ago

I think multiplayer action in Assassin's Creed 2 would have been awesome. If they can manage to make it work in Uncharted 2, they can easily pull it off with Assassin's Creed 2 IMO.

morganfell6011d ago

I agree but the fact is AC2 is getting a pass on something that was used to damn KZ2.

thereapersson6011d ago

However, I think it's a little skewed because they are two different genres. AC2 isn't even a shooter, which is something that comprises the majority of Uncharted 2's gameplay. I think it makes more sense to compare Gears and Uncharted, or Halo and Killzone, which is why Killzone was derided for not having co-op. Most shooters these days do have co-op, even if a lot of the time, it ends up being a rather shallow addition to a game.

While I will say that I feel as though Killzone 2's campaign felt perfect the way it was -- it has such a narrative and pacing that made sense to have you go alone through the game -- I wouldn't have minded an extra mode, to see the game through the eyes of another character. Or, you could have played Rico, while your friend played another member of your team. Something to that extent, anyway.

Anything more than 2-player co-op just wouldn't have made sense.

Darkstorn6011d ago

Uncharted 2 should have won this category, but this isn't too much of an upset. If this were the GOTY category, that's a different story...

morganfell6011d ago

I am sorry, that doesn't fly. Bioshock is a shooter and it also got the same free pass. Had they woven the story properly it could have been done. There is more than one assassin. They chose not to. Both UC2 and AC2 are 3rd person action games and UC2 pulled it off.

I won't let comments about genre skew the fact it got a free ride.

Tachyon_Nova6011d ago

I think Assassins is a choice. UC2 was overhyped, although everyone but me seems to love it. And its not like I'm a AC fanboy, I hated the first one so much that I actually broke the disc rather than trade it in so that hopefully one less person would have to go through the punish. But it is probably my GOTY (Assassins 2 that is) for 2009.

SaberEdge6011d ago

From my perspective this is way off. Assassin's Creed 2 is a 8.9 in my book, while Uncharted 2 is a 10 (very few games deserve a 10).

This practice of snubbing exclusives is unfair. Winners should not have to be multi-platform games.

Commander TK6011d ago

Uncharted 2 fanboys. I haven't played AC2, but U2 fanboys r pathetic.

nan06011d ago

I don't have a flying *bleep* what anybody says. ASsassins Creed II should of gotten game of the year. They put so much work into this game it isn't even funny. Not only is Desmond's story original and interesting, but you have Ezio's as well...

NOT to mention all of subject 16's clips and alternate history/conspiracy of it all. It was so unique and awesomely made. So emotional. The animations were lushous and amazing, the graphics are amazing for the scale of the cities. WITH NO FRAME DIPS, atleast I haven't encountered any.

People just don't understand deep and interesting stories. I was confused and lost and I'm a hardcore fan. I had to look things up online to make sense etc. It's so deep, this game is one of the best period. People need to look at the whole picture and not just compare the gameplay.

OMFGOD WHAT THE HELL >>>>? ?????? i was sure Uncharted 2 will take crown but assassin sure good game but best adventure yeah right >>/??

deadreckoning6666011d ago (Edited 6011d ago )

"remember, this is for the casuals. Just wait till the AIAS."

Who cares about VGAs or AIAS? Ur basically saying that you need a group to publicly recognize Uncharted 2 just so u can use it as fanboy ammo on N4G. Grow up. We already know AIAS will give it to Uncharted 2 and NO ONE is going to care because MOST gamers don't even know what AIAS is. Whether we like it or not, the VGAs are the most popular yearly videogame awards.

Uncharted 2 can be YOUR game of the year..just leave it at that and ull never be dissapointed

swiftshot936011d ago

I was surprised by this. I know many people dont take the VGAs seriously, but I honestly thought Uncharted 2 would clean up the awards because its so damn good.

Saaking6011d ago

Why Assassin's Creed 2 and 3 Had the Best Writing the Series Has Ever Seen

IGN - Assassin's Creed's focus on character-driven storytelling has been buried by its RPG sandbox features, and the series is weaker for it.

RaidenBlack439d ago

A rare W opinion piece from IGN.
IMO, Ubisoft needs to setup two primary AC dev teams. 1 would focus on and release character-driven OG-style AC games for OG fans and the other would continue the current RPG-ified AC style for current fans.
Release by them Bi-annually and alternatively. There'd less fatigue and a boost to quality.

ZeekQuattro439d ago

I definitely appreciate 3 more after playing it again in recent years along with the Liberation game. Back when 3 was new I was still riding high on AC2 and Brotherhood so when I played 3 I felt a bit let down. Even the ship battles grew on me.

-Foxtrot439d ago

AC2 - Yes

AC3 - Urm...I don't know

I feel they kind of dropped the ball with AC3 and with the way the story went it just didn't make sense to me at all. I felt it would have made more sense lore wise if they had it so the Red Coats were mostly Assassins and the Templars were mostly the Colonists who wanted this "new world" as a fresh start for their operations, to build a country up they'd have full control of from the start so they manufacture the war as something else while really it's just a front for the Templars vs Assassins.

It just meant that since the Red coats lose the war it explains how the Templars have gained full control of future America and how the Assassins have slowly died out by then. This entire event would have been the turning point of how things went to s**t for the Assassins and how there's not many of them left in the present.

Haythem was a lot more interesting than Connor and he should have been the main Assassin of AC3.

lucasnooker439d ago (Edited 439d ago )

I thought AC2 was the greatest of the series and it is but replaying it recently, I stared to see more flaws in the game. Basically every single mission is an assassination besides a few tailing missions lol. Still, the implementation of all the new mechanics were great. The smoke bombs, disarming guards, story, hidden tombs, swimming, flying machine, multiple locations, etc. it definitely felt a bit more special to me at the time of release though

isarai439d ago

Dunno about 3, the 1st act was cool, then i couldn't tell you what happens after that. But 2 was so good! The entire acts 1-3 were al memorable, whereas i really couldn't even tell you what happens in any other AC game

Is It Still Possible To Make A Sequel As Good As Assassin's Creed 2?

Assassin's Creed 2 set the template for the series going forward, but it's harder to see it getting made today.

Lol Assassin's Creed 2 is the game that introduced most of the things people say they hate about modern Ubisoft games specifically and open world games generally.

Elantregaless556d ago

Those elements were fresh when they came out.
The problem is not that they were introduced, the problem is how they have been repeated to stagnation.

IAMRealHooman556d ago

@Elantregaless

100%, we call it the Ubisoft formula for a reason, the formula can still be fun, we just need pallet cleansers and actual side activities that offer something other than 100 bases or 50 towers to climb

RaidenBlack556d ago (Edited 556d ago )

ACs were nice till Syndicate. Just that they were releasing it wayy too often i.e nearly annually or some times 2 games per year i.e III + liberation same year and Unity + Revelations same year.
People complained that we're getting same AC games every year. Ubi's solution should've been to release the games every 3 years or so and abit more refined.
But instead they turned the franchise into humongous RPG fetch quests that just exacerbated the prior issues. People were fine with Origins, since it was new but got bored/overwhelmed by Valhalla.
AC should've stayed like Ezio trilogy or Unity.
Not the RPG that they've turned it into.
They know it, hence we got Mirage.

anast556d ago

While the art was on point and the writing was okay, Origins was designed around microtransactions. It's not really a game, it's a monetization scheme. Unity is a massive fetch quest like all AC games and it has worse mission mechanics than the new ones. Good parkour doesn't hide all of its flaws. If you liked Unity, it's strange that you wouldn't like any of the others going forward.

They used a Valhalla DLC to make Mirage and it didn't sell as well as their others. IGN has it tenth, there are only 13 mainline games if I'm not mistaken and it maxed out only around 7k player peak on Steam. The "engagement numbers" out there are fake. This shows that people didn't really want a return to form DLC.

Some people get bored and some don't. Some people like the copy-paste style and some people don't. Some people like fetch questing and some people don't. But a lot of people don't like UBI turning their SP games into live-services. The problems with AC games are the monetization schemes.

PRIMORDUS556d ago (Edited 556d ago )

Speaking of this same old shit every year, I just found this about AS Mirage. "Assassin's Creed: Mirage now playable through leaked Denuvoless debug build." As well as Dragon's Dogma 2 . Torrents are up. I'm going to guess someone at both companies leaked this out in the wild, most likely to get back at them, maybe with layoffs or other reasons. 😁

GamingManiac556d ago

Ehhh looks like I'll have to give DD2 a try lol

PRIMORDUS556d ago

I get down votes for calling out the truth on what happened to both games LOL. Don't know how it happened I already said what my guess was. DD 2, hmm not for me, and no more AC please.

Furesis556d ago

i would not play that even if it was free, there are better games out there to waste your time on

Demetrius556d ago

Nah ubisoft doesn't aim above "just good" titles, sequels are supposed to be refined and improved each time they released. I remember in the ps360 gen it was like that, a known sequel would definitely be a step up from the previous titles. I remember seeing an article where someone from ubisoft said players don't just want "solid" titles. You damn right sir they always just deliver the bare minimum nowadays. These consoles this gen have enough power to contribute to thoroughly made gems. Ubisoft acts blind to that

Inverno556d ago

Ezio got 3 games and an animated movie, they dedicated a lot of time to him and those games. No they can't make a sequel as good, cause all they wanna do is milk the series.

Furesis556d ago

i thought brotherhood was the better game of the 3 but 2 story is best and yes of course it is possible but i dont have any trust in ubisoft

RaidenBlack556d ago

Yea, Brotherhood and 2 trades punches, I loved them both equally... but the series lost its charm with the humongous RPG trilogy,
The games became too much to handle
