Killzone - Q&A Session with Guerrilla Games

KillzoneUnit.com has managed to set up a Q&A session with Sebastian "motherH" Downie of Guerrilla Games. They talk about the company and of Killzone. Pull up a chair and enjoy.

From the interview:

E3 is very near and the gaming world is anticipating news of Killzone PS3. What's the vibe like at GG as you all prepare? Stressed, excited?

Bit of everything. Excitement with an underlying: "OH MY GOD WE ARE ALL GOING TO DIE!" I am sure there are a hundred developers around the globe feeling the same way right now though. Everyone wants their game to play look and sound perfectly when the public first get to see it. If you are working on an AAA Next Gen beast of a game or something for mobile phones you want to make a good impression on people. And if you have the baggage that we have we have to give it that extra little bit. Hopefully it will all go brilliantly and we'll shut up even some of the most ardent critics.

Our readers would never forgive us if we didn't ask, but is there anything at all that you can tell us about the next Killzone title? (even if it's a 'no comment', haha)

Erm… hmmm… let me see. Well it has Online. I can't say anything about it though. There will be a Public Beta, but not till later in the year. It will be a FPS, but I guess you figured that out by now… Phew. There really is absolutely nothing I can actually talk about. Oh well. See you at E3!

It sound like Killzone PS3 will be out this holiday season! Hopefully i will get invited to the beta.

techie6936d ago

There will be a Public Beta, but not till later in the year.

Odion6936d ago

Pretty much no matter what they do they won't be able to make a believer out of me, Killzone was not my kind of FPS, and its MP was really poor.

I think blizzard said it best.

"See the problem is all these companies are just trying to make a good single player with these really deep and complex systems, however that doesn't work real well in MP, thats why at its core Starcraft as always been a simple game."

Mark my words the prettiest and most complex game almost never wins

Violater6936d ago

Everyone knows being a brainless space marine makes for better gameplay.

see what i did there guys its called sarcasm.......

Blood_Spiller6936d ago

Personally I'd rather have an amazing single player experience than a crappy single player experience but with good multiplayer. Multiplayer just doesn't do it for me in most games. Am I the only one who feels that way?

Watkins6936d ago

I'd have to say that games don't need multiplayer. I think it's a really good idea to make multiplayer games like Warhawk without any singleplayer, and then singleplayer games like Final Fantasy and Resident Evil, without any multiplayer.
That way the developers can focus on what's important and make the game they want to create.
I might think this way because I'm a single-player dude, don't know. But I would never give a great single player game a lower score because the multiplayer part isn't good.

Odion6936d ago

Everyone expect Violater brings up good points.

However FPS games are built upon having a multiplayer that is long lasting. Also i wasn't saying that singleplayer wasn't important i just don't think you need to have like complete destructable enviroments and photo realism to have a good game, If you have a really good story and can make it fun to play then thats whats important.

I am just sick of people saying, well why can't i blow up that tower there to kill him this isn't fun because i can't do this or that.

Its why I am not that excited by Fracture or Haze, Fracture sure you can make little mountians and walls using your gun, but really how much fun is that going to be?

Violater6936d ago (Edited 6936d ago )

how old are you? the comment area does come with spell check you know.

"Also i wasn't saying that singleplayer wasn't important i just don't think you need to have like complete destructable enviroments and photo realism to have a good game, If you have a really good story and can make it fun to play then thats whats important."

In this day and age games are pushing the envelope to come as close to reality, so when one game has destructible environments and another that is supposed to be an AAA title doesn't, people point and laugh.
The games you mention all show good promise and yet you say "but really how much fun is that going to be?"
When in truth none of us have played them, and even more none of them are finished so how could we possibly say they are fun or not?

KZ2 is going to be an amazing game mark my words (what other people can say it about other games and i can't?)
Single Player and Multi, I enjoy both especially when I'm good at it.

Odion6936d ago

What does my age have to do with anything? (I am 20) I decided to not get into a flameware with you and instead decided to have a civilized coversation with the other posters who replied with positive responces to the conversation.

If you'd like to get involved put your thoughts in, on any of the following topics.

1. The importance of SP over MP
2. Should companies focus more on one type like Warhawk and Bioshock.
3. How important is the technical look and feel to you over how the game sucks you in and how fun it is?

I will say this though guys, I am also more of a SP person myself MP is fun and its what you spend most of you time playing but the great thing about FPS's that so few people do is that they have the easiest way of sucking you into a world and making you feel like your there.

NINJARIFIK6936d ago

that in this day and age, things can be kept under such a tight lid. no word, no leaked images, no nothing. impressive, but it makes me sad. ;(

Why Guerrilla Games Shouldn't Abandon the Killzone Series

Hugely disappointingly, it seems that Guerrilla Games, developers of the Killzone and Horizon series, may be done with Killzone for good.

1 was fine, overhyped as a " halo" killer
2 was a graphical beast at the time, and felt heavy
3 was good a refinement of 2 but not much else. weird audio issues environment were to quiet
shadow fall was pretty but bland

OtterX589d ago (Edited 589d ago )

Shadowfall had great Multiplayer though. Too bad the campaign was meh at best. It did have the occasional great moment sprinkled in.

TheNamelessOne589d ago (Edited 589d ago )

I played through 2/3 multiple times. I played through the original once, but it felt pretty lukewarm for me. I couldn't be bothered to beat Shadow Fall. I got a couple hours in and just went "I'm done". Never touched it again. It was awesome on the tech side, being a launch title, but it didn't even match up to the first game when it came to actually having fun playing it.

Rude-ro589d ago

3 in 3d was an amazing experience to be had.
Although not many experienced it as intended for good reasons.

just_looken589d ago

You forgot the ai advancements on the playstation 2 killzone one you could have a full team of bots doing everything even playing the objective that was a big thing.

In killzone 2 they always flanked you and when available used the high ground.

Playing killzone 2 no hud 5.1 audio was/is awesome

MDTunkown589d ago

They should finish Horizon story first

darthv72589d ago

I dont mind if someone else takes up the mantle for the KZ franchise. We are several years removed from the first game. It certainly could use a remake to gauge interest in the rest of the series. I know it has its fans... Im thinking of how a proper reboot can rekindle that old dormant flame and bring in a new generation of fans in the process.

just_looken589d ago

You forgot killzone mercenaries on the ps vita but it was the worst selling sony game for awhile there.

Yui_Suzumiya588d ago

Yeah, a remake would be pretty awesome

anast589d ago

They should let it go or sell it. No use spending millions on this project.

LucasRuinedChildhood589d ago

Would like a new IP before Horizon 3. Just because games take so long to make these days.

PlayStation 3 Games That Desperately Need a PS5 Remaster

The PlayStation 3 may not have been the strongest generation for Sony, but there were still some diamonds in the rough that deserve a revisit as PS5 remasters.

Even if they could just remaster and put on PSVR2, some would still look great as VR titles and could do a whole lot to bolster the headset w these exclusives! I'd imagine the investment of reworking these titles into VR would be way less than building new games from the ground up, and they could be amazing experiences, and VR often makes flat games feel fresh again. The Resistance and Killzone games are particularly what I want to see!!

Rude-ro818d ago

I played killzone 3 in 3d and it really changed the game per being immersive.
In vr, that would be even more awesome.

darthv72818d ago

Funny you mention that... my son wanted to play some PS3 games in 3d on my PS tv and he was blown away by how good KZ3 was. It really was a great addition to the game. Im surprised there have not been more 3d games from that era being ported to the PSVR/VR2.

_SilverHawk_818d ago

resistance 1-3, killzone 1-3, uncharted 1-3, uncharted golden abyss, folklore, socom 4 , motorstorm, twisted metal, MAG, heavenly sword

Cacabunga818d ago

Killzone 2+3
Sly Thieves in Time
Crack in Time
God of War Ascension
Motorstorm
Modnation racer
Infamous 1+2

Profchaos818d ago (Edited 818d ago )

Killzone trilogy in VR would be amazing bonus points if they offer shadow fall.

There was a psvr1 Killzone project that supermassive was working on at one stage which wasn't up to scratch and Sony brand it back in house I was hoping we would see that on psvr2 eventually.

Personally I'd love to see some more love or acknowledgement of psvr2 from Sony in general it was a expensive headset and Sony barely acknowledge it's existence

seanpitt23818d ago

The amount of work needed to remaster these games wouldn't be beneficial on a financial and business sense.. MGS4 would probably be the best bet as it would need the least amount of work!

Iceball2000818d ago

YEAAASSSSS! I miss this franchise and wanna play it so bad again.

Father__Merrin818d ago

The time is perfect for a resistance fall of man game campaign coop multiplayer

InUrFoxHole818d ago

The resistance series is str8 trash to me. Socom 3 I would welcome. Or killzone MP.

Marcus Fenix818d ago

A Resistance reboot will be awesome

Michiel1989818d ago

That's what Bungie should make, Ill keep saying it until it happens

1Victor818d ago (Edited 818d ago )

Resistance was ok but Warhawk and Starhawk was better and kept me coming back for almost a decade of fun and petty revenge on the loud mouth unskilled players 🤣
Edit I loved capture the flag dropping the pot on the flag carrier was extremely satisfying as well as transforming your plane in bot form and stumping them to death 😱

818d ago
Michiel1989818d ago

Resistance was the best co-op fps I ever played after L4D2

Wow, you're way late to the game. I quickly glimpsed at the title and thought a new killzone game. Sigh

andron1077d ago

Because the game was added to Ps+ classics. This port of the psp game has trophies now...

vTuro241077d ago

This game was dope. Perhaps I might give it another go.
I just wish KZ Mercenary multiplayer wasn't shut down. feelsbadman

P_Bomb1077d ago

Downloaded it! Will run it later this summer. Plat seems reasonable too.
