Developers quiet on InFamous sequel

CC: Sony and Sucker Punch seem to be keeping the InFamous sequel under wraps, according to actor David Sullivan (who accidently revealed that a sequel was in the works), everything is 'hush hush'.

Looking forward to a sequel, the first needs improvements on repetitiveness.

Dipso6034d ago

I thought the side missions were the only repetitive part of the game, the main story missions were all brilliant. I'd like to see some more old school platforming were falls result in death, similar to the bridge level, more of those sublime cut scenes, improved animation for pedestrians, more powerful moral dilemmas and that's me 100% sated. I have no doubt in my mind the sequel is going to be an incredible game.

Reading Sucker Punch's developer postmortem on inFAMOUS you realise how much of those 3 years of development were spent jumping technological hurdles and trying to nail a concept down, now with all the pieces in place I reckon a 2010 release window for a sequel is feasible but its far too early for a trailer/teaser at the VGA's.

solidt126033d ago

I played through the game skipping the side missions and it didn't feel repetitive at all. The side missions are repetitive but the main missions aren't.

raztad6033d ago (Edited 6033d ago )

Nobody/Nothing forces you to do side missions and as was pointed above every main mission was brilliant/fun. The plot is great, and even when replaying the game as bad/good guy it feels fresh.

Still I think the Evil guy part could have been more agressive and distance itself a lot more from the good part. That said, to be the first entry to the franchise, and SP's first game on the PS3, inFAMOUS is a resounding success.

I can wait though, SP please take your time and makes inFAMOUS 2 a masterpiece.

@bellow

inFAMOUS got really good textures and lightning but the jaggies hurt the presentation a lot.

GrandTheftZamboni6033d ago

There are prettier games than Infamous, but I just couldn't stop playing it. Wasn't too excited when the game first came out and almost missed it. Bought it on sale, but it's worth the full price. Infamous 2 - first day buy.

sorceror1716033d ago

Well, reportedly Assassins Creed 2 successfully addressed the same 'repetitiveness' complaint in AC1; no reason why Sucker Punch can't do the same. As Dipso points out, SP has the technology foundation pretty well laid out. They can elaborate on that and the gameplay elements that they know work.

Can't come fast enough for me, but a little DLC for the current inFamous would be welcome, too.

ABizzel16033d ago (Edited 6033d ago )

Let us keep all the powers we've earned.

Introduce new powers.

Let us fight more super villains.

Give us a better variety of goons to fight (at least have some of them look slightly different).

Let us play from the save we last had, meaning if you were a villain the city still hates you and looks a mess. Whereas if you were a hero the city is nice and clean, and villains are trying to destroy it.

If you add multiplayer something similar to Left 4 Dead and Uncharted would be nice. L4D- have one team play as the Heroes and the other team plays as the Grims (or whatever the gang was), and must constantly attack them as the stronger gang members. Uncharted 2- Have Standard Deathmatch similar to Uncharted 2's 5 vs 5.

Oh and make the game as impressive as other high profile PS3 exclusives

All of these should be good additions unless we play as a completely new character with different powers which would work as well. Or take an create a character would be nice as well.

Chubear6033d ago (Edited 6033d ago )

If you believe the side missions in Infamous were repetitive then that means you feel the same way about the side missions in GTA games cause Infamous had more side missions that GTA4 had, recycled.

I didn't see anyone complain about GTA4's side missions so..? See, this is what I'm talking about. If it's a PS3 exclusive, the bar is always set to ridiculous standards that other games dont' have to meet.

Look at Bayonetta. An obvious DMC wannabe but it's done well enough but a game like Heavenly Sword that, for a 1st gen game, surpassed Bayonetta in graphics, story, voice acting and varied gameplay was plastered with 8s but Bayonetta is already lined up for 9.5s

Had Bayonetta been PS3 exclusives they would have called it gay with all the butterflies and pretty pink colours, call the main Xter a whore and given 7.9. The 360 fanbase would have slammed that game to hell calling it a DMC rippoff with cheap QTE BS. Yes, QTE is uber in Bayonetta and it's great gameplay but put that in Heavy Rain and it's "lolz, QTE!"

The gaming community, including the media, have become mindless, dumb, hypocritical dips*. It's all just become rubbish.

That was already in INf1 or didn't you notice?

doesn't it have multiplayer? i'm sure i heard something saying it'll have multiplayer

dpdvxkpizbnwg6033d ago

I want a proper showdown between this and prototype 2! Release them on the same day, then it's a fair test to see what people prefer,.

Admiral_Benson6033d ago

That would definitely be an interesting release day head-to-head but Prototype 2 being a multiplat would give it a huge advantage if you were basing it purely on sales?

Plus Prototype got way more TV spots and advertising than Infamous ever did aswell. (i'm sure the same would apply for the sequels)

Either way, i'd just be extremely happy to get an Infamous sequel, the original was awesome!

raztad6033d ago

I dont want the same Prototype vs inFAMOUS sh!t again.

I hope both games are released very far apart. I want to see Prototype standing on its own and not at expenses of another game.

dkblackhawk506033d ago

A year or more for that matter. Who really knows?

Solans Scott6033d ago

I would like the sequel to make use of my saved game data. For example, if I took the evil path I would like to continue along that path with all my powers without having the game start me off being neutral.

hitthegspot6033d ago

That would be cool if they worked your past save game into the new game.

mjolliffe6033d ago

Hasn't another game done that in the last year? I can't remember.

Polluted6033d ago

@Above: I think Mass Effect 2 is supposed to do that.

Chubear6033d ago

This was the case in INf1. I never started a saved game in neutral. I was always whatever I was b4 I logged off. Maybe I don't understand what you're trying to get across.

Sevir046033d ago

That the game reads your states from your save file having completed INfamous as evil/hero have Part 2reflect exactly how you were at the end of infamous. but start of just that way in infamous 2...

Yes Infamous starts you off as what ever you left of ass when you do your second play through, but just having these carrying over into next the next game...

I want it too. Make it co-op as well.

-Foxtrot1119d ago

Yeah they had a lightning bolt in the shape of a question mark at the end of Infamous 2

They always went off the good ending for Cole so I think for Delsin it should be the bad ending

What he did in the bad ending, absorbing everyone’s powers, seemed like he was going to turn into something powerful.

Makes you feel like he could have been the real Beast and John was just an anomaly because of them messing with time

Sets up a Cole vs Delsin showdown

lukasmain1119d ago

How would fans feel about a reboot? You know to bring a new audience in? Not a good idea? Good idea?

anast1118d ago

Not a god idea. They let it sit for too long and the game hasn't been strong enough to carry itself all these years. There is so much other stuff out there right now.

masterfox1119d ago

Second Son was released in 2014 was an amazing game visually and gameplay wise, sometimes I play it again on the PS5 and seeing it run at 60 fps is something to behold(yes an almost 10 year old game), if you haven't done that on your PS5 try it you won't be disappointed, pure eye candy, a PS5 exclusive of Infamous would be amazing no doubt.

gold_drake1119d ago

meh, i want Cole to come back.

or maybe a reboot. with cole.

Older PlayStation games that we'd love to see on the PlayStation 5

From Xfire: "For a company with a three-decade-long history in gaming, Sony has done a crappy job at preserving its legacy. "

Flawlessmic1509d ago (Edited 1509d ago )

Flawlessmic1509d ago (Edited 1509d ago )

If the PC can emulate the PS3, then for sure the PS5 would be able to do same. but dose Sony want it?

Mr Logic2172d ago

If there was money in it, then Sony would do it. People can bitch and moan all they want, but even if every person on this site used BC, that would still be a tiny fraction of gamers. Almost nobody really uses BC.

DethWish2172d ago (Edited 2172d ago )

I think there would be money if they made PS3 games downloadable through PSNow and added a bunch more.
Edit: I would get it if MGS4 was available

Mr Logic2172d ago

@DethWish

That would be an emulator. You're not making any sense.

DethWish2172d ago

Mr Logic, really? If PS5 could emulate PS3 games (BC) and PSNow would let you download and play PS3 games locally instead of streaming (like it lets you download PS4 games), wouldn't that be awesome? PSNow has some really interesting PS3 games, but I'd prefer to play them locally

MadLad2172d ago

Really?
Remasters of popular games do extremely well. MS basically hands them out for free. If people didn't want to play older games, then why do remasters sell so well?

+ Show (1) more replyLast reply 2172d ago
anonymousfan2172d ago

I honestly would probably never ever use it... But I still think it would be pretty neat. Its one of the few avantages PC still has on console that is complete backwards compatibility. But for all the work needed to implement this I doubt it would be worth Sony's time.

Melankolis2172d ago

In my opinion.
The difference is independent emulator developer can build any emulator as an experiment that will be perfected for years, maybe more than 10 years. During that time, expect many glitch, bugs, and updates. They can do that because they do not have any obligation towards PC users or whatsoever.

Fos Sony, once they announce PS5 will be able to play PS3 games, they have to make it safe and playable for users. They do not want the emulator cause bricks, glitch, heating up or anything to the consoles and get sued for that.

Harkins17212172d ago

The amount of work it would require sony for each game probably isn't worth it. Maybe after rpcs3 is done they can patent it and use it. That's the dream lol

This has been going on for years any full game playable yet

EazyC2172d ago

Wish I never sold my PS3 for MGS IV alone, I'm dying to play it again

Gamerking822172d ago (Edited 2172d ago )

Any ps3 owner has too own this masterpiece . My disk drive has just gone on my old super slim . So I bought the digital version no questions ask . If you have a ps3 own this masterpiece that’s all I can say . I replay it every year and still find loads of enjoyment . The last true metal gear in my opinion . V was good and gameplay amazing , but it’s just not a metal gear quality story wise .
