YES! I've been thinking about this too. PLEASE let the guys who did House of the Dead Overkill make a new Virtua Cop or something, where you take down The Man and keep smack off the streets. I think they'd do it right, with boom mics constantly falling into the shot and kung-fu kicks that miss their target by about a foot.

It probably wouldn't really sell, but it'd be glorious.

Blaxploitation basically saved the theaters in the 70's. People were not flocking to the movies until Shaft, Big Bad Momma, Coffey, Foxy Brown, Cleopatra Jones, Blackula, etc. were released. They were cheaply made, somewhat entertaining, and funny as hell in retrospect.
They weren't all horrible...look at Cooley High or Uptown Saturday Night (with Bill Cosby not doubt), The Mack (which came to new fame when mentioned in Friday), and finally Superfly (one of the best soundtracks ever).
What really made them enduring was the SOUNDTRACK. Isaac Hayes, better known as Chef from South Park to most (RIP) and Curtis Mayfield made a living in the 70's off of making an entire soundtrack for these types of movies.
That's one era that is ripe for the picking. Look at the success of a movie like American Gangster...with drugs, corrupt cops, the powerful black lead, hookers, etc. and you can see what blaxploitation has led to. Tarantino did a post blaxploitation movie in Jackie Brown. Posse, Hoodlum, and even a Shaft remake with Samuel L. Jackson were other examples that came out in the 90's.
To downplay this time, era, and genre is to take significant influences away from our culture. Several hip hop artists, political activists, musicians, authors, and artists would all say that there are lasting vestiges of blaxploitation...especially in language...where we still see words like playa and mack...chillin. Even the term RAP came from pimps.
I could go on and on...but I'll stop and say...that would be a great idea...now if I could only pitch my game idea to some forward thinking company...I can dream!!!*L*
